For cocktails I like Local Edition (old fashioned speakeasy/jazz/newspaper theme) and Novela (literary theme with cocktails named after characters). You can make reservations for both online, and should if it's a busier night of the week.

I ate at Zuni Cafe the other day for the first time. Was really solid. Gf and I went on a whim bc it was open during off-hrs so we had a limited menu. The burger was fantastic - I almost didn't get it bc it was on focaccia. That would have been a leak; it's my 2nd fav burger after kronnerburger ive had in SF. We also had a proscuitto app that was really good. I'd put it somewhere in the 75/100 range - good service and solid food, and I liked the layout of the restaurant.

Zuni is a very good spot. Depends how you like your burgers but I've liked causwells, Marlow, and abv burgers, all very different but great.

Wife and 3 coworkers got Norovirus from oysters at novella earlier this year, so I'd avoid those. But from my understanding they use a seafood supplier that half of sf uses so maybe not their fault.

Local Edition is by far my least favorite of the Future Bars bars. Rickhouse is WAY better imo. Devil's Acre is also great, but can get too busy/loud. NBD, though, you can always go across the street from there to Comstock. Tradition (and most of their other bars) is better too. Not a fan of Novela either. I just don't think they make very good drinks. And don't love the scene there most nights.

Zuni is great, and their burger is awesome. Their chicken is amazing and well-worth the reputation. It takes a while, though. The way to do it is order it as soon as you're seated, before you've even gotten water. Then put in drinks/apps, and you won't have long to wait before you get your chicken.

All of those are great burgers. As are Super Duper burgers, and Popson's, and many more. So many great burgers all around the city! But my favorite is still across the bay in Oakland at Kronnerburger. And you really should get it served rare, it's so damn good!

SF gluttons: Eater lists are really good for SF. These two are the most reliable in my experience:
Essential 38
Current Hottest
and plenty of other Maps/lists, but I have mixed experiences with the quality of these lists.

El D - totally would have gotten the chicken if it wasn't for the advertised hour-long wait ha, we were starving tho. Next time; I'm a huge fan of a well-cooked bird! Speaking of birds, next on my list are State Bird Provisions and Trestle. Excited for both!

Igot,

Speaking of well-cooked bird, the fried chicken sandwich at the bird is great! http://thebirdsf.com

From same people as super duper (and beretta, Delarosa, uno dos tacos, lolinda, and various other spots).

Kronnerburger is tasty, but the default cook for a burger being rare is not ideal. imo.

Where I should go for a ribeye steak? Want to just get a healthy steak + veggies meal rather than the traditional (and awesome ofc) steakhouse experience with the great bread, double baked potato, mac and cheese side, NY cheesecake for dessert etc. Bonus points if I can watch a game at the bar, but not required.

Random rec, but Fayes Video and espresso near Dolores Park has a surprisingly good decaf cold brew coffee. Most decaf coffee I find very bland, but they manage to do it very well.

Tx,

That’s a big point of contention between me and friends. I love the rare burger there, but I also love steak tartare.

Dan,

Many nice bars with full menu will have some kind of steak on the menu, but doubt you’ll find a high quality ribeye at many (other than nice restaurant bars). Nothing comes to mind, but I’m also pretty much never getting a steak anyplace but a steakhouse.

Hmmm, this is a good neighborhood bar/restaurant with a great bar to eat dinner at. I’d be interested in hearing what you think of their ribeye (I’ve never had it): http://oola-sf.com/wp-content/upload...u-Menu-Box.pdf

If you’re just looking for a more casual ambience, Izzy’s in the marina might fit the bill. They used to have a solid ribeye plate with your choice of a couple of sides. I haven’t been in many years, though.

If what you want is a great ribeye and some vegetables, then most of the nice steakhouses discusses itt would fit the bill. Most are a la carte steaks and they don’t force you to get twice baked potato, Mac and cheese, and cheesecake! But I can understand if you’re unable to enter those places and restrain yourself.

I went to barzotto this weekend on Valencia. Everything was great, including wine, .can't remember the last time I had a sparkling red! Fun vibe. Everything came out super fast, so maybe consider ordering in two batches... but I enjoy the italian style of having an obnoxious amount of food on the table. Would recommend. We ordered an absolute feast of food (two pastas, both mains with meat, all the sides, large salad) for 3 people and it came to $100 before wine.

Dan,

Some places I think you’d like; I think I’ve reviewed them previously ITT: Cockscomb, Cotogna, and Coqueta. Belotta too, but last time I was there service was absolutely horrible - the bar is always a safe bet, though.

Beer lovers,

Went to beer basement for the first time. Great beer bar, I highly recommend it.

Barrel Head Brewhouse in the Haight is solid for beers - great service and beer selection and the food's really good too.

Ordered mexican tonight from Don Pisto's. Was solid (tacos a lil overpriced, guac and salsa were good) but nothing spectacular (not that I expect delivery to be spectacular!). But got me thinking, since I order in fairly often - does anyone have solid delivery recs? I usually just use ubereats and ive been more miss than hit lately. Especially interested in Sushi, Mexican, and Mediterranean, but I eat everything and would appreciate any recs. I don't have any standouts but I can say I definitely enjoy Park Gyros in the Sunset. Thanks!

Not in one of your preferred categories but Mission Chinese is great for delivery. For sushi delivery I usually do Live Sushi (SoMa location) but it’s nothing spectacular.

Going to Napa next week. Plan on bailing out of Napa early on Sunday and checking out San Francisco for the day before our red eye.

Questions

Is there anything out by the airport worth seeing?

Some sort of not horrible touristy thing?

Seems like the mission is a great place to have some beers and eat good food. So we will probably go there if all else seems lame.

I’m basically trying to get the lady friend to want to go back for a longer stay at some point so I’m looking for San Fran audition worthy joints.

No.

But it’s very easy to get from the city to SFO.

If you read the last few pages of this thread, you’ll find a couple of “in sf for a day or two, what to do?” requests/replies and a trip report or two.

Lucky Chances is out by SFO. Otherwise, nothing of interest there. As far as not touristy... that's a bit harder. Twin Peaks is nice. You get to drive to the top and it gives a good view of the Bay. Mission is a fine place. Castro is okay, though the service there comes with an attitude. Golden Gate Park is nice as well. If you do want something touristy, there's always the wharf. I’m not sure she was very impressed. Parked in front of mikkeller bar. Had one beer and in that time some gentleman smashed the back window of the rental and took off with a backpack and my cpap. Hopefully sfo has a good delta lounge!

SFO has basically the best Delta lounge in the system.

Definitely an authentic downtown sf experience... Bummer that happened, hope you didn’t lose anything too important/valuable.

SFO delta lounge confirmed elite.

Unfortunately they grabbed a backpack and what I’m sure looked like a laptop case but had my CPAP in it (medical device). The pack had my lady friends prescription glasses in it and dirty T-shirt’s.

Sadly I’m out about $680 and she’s out about $400.

They basically ended up stealing the stuff that would gain them the least and screw us the most(of course we didn’t realize the car keys were in there until we landed in snowy 15 degree Detroit.)

Meh **** happens. More bummed about not getting to eat my way through San Fran on sunday.

I️ did however eat my way through Napa.

Morimoto was kind of meh imo.

Two birds one stone was elite. The A5 wagyu was incredible. The rest of the dishes were really great and fun. The Hamachi crudo really stood out. I️m not a big restaurant picture taker. So only got a pic of the wagyu

The French laundry was quite an experience. Impeccable service and great food. It was definitely an experience to remember. I️ definitely wasn’t mad at the $175 up charge for truffle risotto. They drizzled some brown butter on top for kicks.

Lady went with the wagyu upgrade

And then Press was one of the best steaks I’ve ever eaten.
