I took the DVD over to a friend's house. His sister (who has known me her entire life and considers me a really sweet guy) was there. We are also talking about a girl who has seen a few things, taken a few drugs, disappeared here and there for a few days, etc, etc, and generally has a high tolerance for things that are "different". Less than 5 minutes into the film, she looked at me like I was a total psychopath for liking this dark, dark sh** and then left the room.

From wikipedia:

In his review of the film, Roger Ebert wrote, "...the depraved are only seeking what we all seek, but with a lack of ordinary moral vision...In a film that looks into the abyss of human despair, there is the horrifying suggestion that these characters may not be grotesque exceptions, but may in fact be part of the mainstream of humanity."

He gave the film four out of four stars, and rated it #5 in his top 10 films of 1998, saying also, "It is not a film for most people. It is certainly for adults only. But it shows Todd Solondz as a filmmaker who deserves attention, who hears the unhappiness in the air and seeks its sources."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Happiness_(1998_film) (spoiler alert)
There were some hilarious parts in this. Especially the very end which most 2p2ers would really like.

Die in a fire this is the worst movie of all time and for some reason everyone else seems to like it.

seeing as how little miss sunshine was nominated for best picture by the academy, I don't think that its really anywhere close to an obscure film

love the station agent. Just a nice little slice of life that brings us people that we could easily meet in everyday society

Omg I just saw this and I think I have a new favorite movie

This film doesn't just touch on inapproiate, it breaks down the door and makes itself at home. Every scene is better then the last and you hope it never ends.

Happiness

When a young woman rejects her current overweight suitor in a restaurant, he unexpectedly places a curse on her. The film then moves on to her sisters. One is a happily married woman with a psychiatrist husband and three kids. Unfortunately the husband develops an unnatural fascination for his 11 year old son's male classmates, fantasizes about mass killing in a park, and masturbates to teen magazines. One of his patients has an unrequited fascination for the third sister. Meanwhile the apparently stable 40 year marriage of the sister's parents suddenly unravels when he decides he has had enough and wants to live a hermit's life in Florida. Obviously, the whole movie is slightly warped in its viewpoint and certainly presents abnormal relationships among all of its parties.

A movie I really enjoyed is 'Following'. It's the first movie by Christopher Nolan of 'Memento' and the newer Batman films fame. It's maybe an hour long and in black and white, using the flashback, flashforward style of Memento. The story of a guy who randomly follows/stalks people, gets caught and is led into a world of crime and deceit. Highly recommended!!

i really enjoyed Naked

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0166314/
its a dialouge driven movie and the mainprotagonist is only saying mindtwisting stuff which makes the movie pretty hillarious.

also if not already mentioned,
OLDBOY and Symphaty for MR. Vengeance are real good.

and
Savior with dennis quaid
(a war movie unlike any other war movie ive ever seen)

Despite terrible reviews I really liked this movie... fwiw I also liked Gummo.

Also Battle Royale is a good Japanese picture where once a year a group of high school students have to go on an island and kill each other til one is left.. Pretty intriguing movie imo.

Korean film called 'Salinui chueok' (Memories of Murder)

Loosely based on the true story of a serial killer in South Korea during the 80s & the efforts of the police to capture him. Even though the movie is a drama and has serious moments, it is very hilarious at times. Some of the police on the case are bumbling idiots who beat suspects, tamper with evidence and generally don't have a clue what they are doing.
