Any recommendations for a pub/bar that has a great craft beer selection? Staying midtown Manhattan but would go to Brooklyn if easily subway accessible

A pub that has a selection from a variety of brewers would be best but if there's a brewery that's must see I'd be good with that too.

Blind Tiger in the West Village has a great craft beer selection and at times will get great out-of-state beers rarely seen in NYC (e.g., they currently have a couple Hill Farmstead beers on tap).

Definitely off topic here, but this thread may have the most locals. Any recommendations on recruiting firms for people out of state trying to get a job in NYC?

My wife is in the hospitality sales industry and has emailed a couple firms but gotten no response. She recently went through the interview process at a hospitality tech start up, getting down to the final two and they went the other way. Looking more for that rather than hotels. If anyone has any connections please DM me.

Thanks guys

I read about Hill Country Barbecue and it looks great: https://hillcountry.com/nyc/menu/

Anyone been and was it good?

Last time I was in NYC I went to Mighty Quinn's, which was nice but I've had better BBQ. Also been told that Fette Sau in Brooklyn is worth going to. Any other BBQ recommendations?

Haven’t been to Hill Country.

Hometown BBQ in Red Hook is the best I’ve had in NYC. But it’s a trek to get there. Fette Sau is a great alternative if you’ve got a tight schedule/want to do a lot.

I'm a huge fan of Hill Country, it's a very similar experience to a real Texas BBQ place. Its been a while since I've been to Mighty Quinn's but if I remember correctly, I'm pretty sure I like Hill Country way better.

Hill Country's Moist Brisket is very good. I would mostly get that

I've never been to a pay-by-weight BBQ joint, so will definitely check it out.

Hill Country and Fette Sau are both very good. I'm also a fan of Blue Smoke.

Moving back to NYC next week after 14 yrs out of state. I want to do a photo scavenger hunt for my 12 year old son of, say 10 locations around Manhattan - mostly as a a way for him to learn the subways, as he will have to figure out where each thing is and how to eat there via public transportation- either I or my wife will go with him. I would love any ideas about different destinations. He’s really into movies, so famous locations would be perfect. Thanks!

Cleopatra’s Needle
Royal Tennenbaums’ house
Morris-jumel house
The Dakota
Sparks
Old St Patrick’s Cathedral - Little Italy - christening at end of godfather

Men In Black has some good locations (the main MIB building down in battery park, the world fair for where 'Edgar' gets a spaceship that gets shot down).

Home alone 2 movie --> Plaza hotel

Night at the Museum --> American museum of natural history

Thanks. Went with the following clues. All in Manhattan, all ones he has seen.

1. Michael sit patrinus.
2. Josh Baskin played here, (alternating white and black superscript)
3.He may have been born on 4/15/71 in Nixa, Missouri, but this is where he may have died nearby.

4.It tastes like a crappy cup of coffee. It is a crappy cup of coffee!

5.This is where Teddy Roosevelt fell in love with Sacagawea.

6.Peter Venkman worked here first.

7. The lost negative showed where he was in real life.

So we’re officially NYC residents again - really enjoying Battery Park City so far. I’ve lived UES and in the village, and this doesn’t even feel like New York. It’s great.

Yeah. Nothing gets me away from home. I get homesick after three weeks tops. 212 all the way.

Welcome back, brianr. Cool scavenger hunt you did for your kid.

Myrna,

You’re an LES guy right? Have you been to Scarr’s pizza? They’re getting quite a bit of hype as one of the best slice shops in NY. The owner seems like a super cool local guy and they mill their own flour in the basement of the shop. I’m gonna go check it out soon.

I have a request for people coming from out of town. Don't try and order appetizers first and then entrees a half hour later. I guess that's a thing in other cities, but nobody does that here and it sort of drives me bonkers when my friends from outside the city want to order that way.

Rocking Horse Cafe - this spot is very good. I got a pork burrito and the pork was extremely moist and tender. Shared some apps as well which were very good. All my friends liked it too so definitely recommended. Not overly expensive either for "upscale" Mexican.

Chelsea Market - Pretty cool but I would advise you to go on the weekdays. Los Tacos No.1 is a good but the hidden gem, Los Mariscos, that is from the same ppl has more space and serves fish tacos.

Coopers Craft and Kitchen - Good bar to grab a casual drink with some friends.

Bathtub Gin - Pretty cool but was expecting more given the hype. Went on a Monday night and every table was full so would think this place is pretty crazy on the weekend. Seemed to be a better date spot than hanging out with friends. Pretty dark but not as dark as other speakeasy places I have been (I don't like super dark bars).

El Quinto Pino - Pretty good tapas place. Food wasnt amazing just pretty good. Probably better to get a glass of wine or two and one or two plates rather than trying to make it an actual dinner.

Highline Hotel - One of the best places to grab a coffee this time of year. Great outdoor seating. On 10th ave so if you need a break from galleries or checking out the highline, go here

Avenue - I dont like this club. There's just one long "hallway" with one bar at the back and tables that jut out into the middle.

Phd - I like this club much better. On a high floor of the Dream hotel. I want to go back in the early evening to check out the views.

Lately - A bar that's much more casual than the clubs around it (easier to get into, etc). Good if you want the meatpacking atmosphere without the fuss of some of the clubs.

McKittrick Hotel - Saw great live jazz here after their last show of Sleep No More ended. Need to check out the rooftop which is highly rated. Looks promising.

Going to the U.S. Open tennis tournament later this month with my brother - any recommendations for pizza nearby [Flushing Meadow - Corona Park, Flushing, NY]? Thanks. I see Scarr is ~30minutes away so that might work. Prefer closer though.

It's probably my favorite steakhouse in the world, but more so for the atmosphere than the actual steak (which I'm sure has many peers at the top NY/Chicago steakhouses). The thick cut bacon is the best, and the burger at lunch is amazing value. I'm going back to NYC next month for the first time in over a year and PL is absolutely on my must-visit list.

Speaking of which, I'm a lot more into wine than I was last time I was there. What are everyone's favorite spots for wine by the glass? I used to like Vin Sur Vingt a lot but that was when I was in my 20s and didn't know **** about wine.

Absolutely worth the trip. If not the best, definitely in the top 3-4 in the city.
