Getting in tonight on the 'later' side (~10p) and will be staying in/near chinatown I guess? Just south of Nolita.

Looking for something to eat/drink when I get in and get settled, I'll be flying solo for the first night so nothing ridiculous just maybe some cocktails, possible sushi or other late night casual dinner for 1. And then some live music if at all possible, blues>jazz>other.

Obviously willing to travel if that's the smart play.

Many thanks in advance

Smalls is a cool little jazz club in the Village and they usually have people playing into the early hours of the morning.

Only blues club I can think of off the top of my head which may have music after midnight is Terra Blues on Bleecker. Haven't been in like 15 years but they had some good acts back then. Prepare to navigate around a lot of young drunk tourists on Bleecker.

for skylark rooftop

Always had another place I'd go to when in that area but I see I've been missing out. Def need to call ahead for seating though especially if you're a group of 3+

Not what you requested but Prince St Pizza is in Nolita and has one of my favorite slices in the city (pepperoni square slice). Obviously this is super no frills and you'll spend $8 on dinner and probably eat in the street, but it's amazing.

So I chose to go to Gabriel Kreuther and had a great meal.

Some small service mis-steps but I'm picky. No call to confirm the reservation, greeting at the front desk was cold at best, and overall the staff seemed out of sync for the first 45 minutes of the meal (I had an eight o'clock reservation).

Food wise it was great.

Osetra Caviar with curry crackers and whipped chive creme fraiche

Hamachi, black truffle, and foie gras

Langoustine tartare

To be Continued.....

The 'signature' sturgeon and sauerkraut tart

Seared foie gras (sorry not a great shot)

Diver scallops

Beef tenderloin

Jester,

That looks a lot better than my visit, although I went for lunch. Thanks for sharing the pics.

Going to New York Labor Day Weekend for the US Open.

Getting in Friday night, looking for a reasonably nice dinner spot. We're staying in my fiance's sister's apartment near the Manhattan Entrance to the Midtown Tunnel, and my friends live in Stuy Town. So prob looking for somewhere accessible from both spots. Prob would prefer low key good food to anything approaching "fancy".

Couple off the top of my head recommendations - they're solid, not overly expensive, and fairly nice.

Blue Smoke (BBQ)
Upland (American)
ABC Kitchen (Farm-to-Table)
BLT Prime (Steakhouse)

+1 to ABC Kitchen, but make sure you make a reservation way in advance unless you want to go at off peak hours. IIRC, they take them 30 days in advance.

Upland is very good as well. Obica Mozzarella Bar in flatiron has been my go to for last minute group dinners a few times and the food was excellent, pretty standard Italian menu.

Are you looking for any specific types of food?

Not really. All of us have pretty expansive palettes so really any type of food works. I know that's not super helpful when looking for restaurant recommendations so thanks guys for throwing anything out there!

What do you people do for groceries after like 8pm? I swear I'd kill for a freaking WalMart right now.

I think most Morton Williams are 24/7 if u want groceries but there should be a zillion restaurants and bars serving food, no? Where do you live I feel like NYC is the easiest place on planet to get food at any hour

Lol this. There's hundreds of restaurants on seamless/grubhub at almost any hour.

Whole Foods is open until 11. Fairway open until midnight. Morton Williams/Westside Markets are generally 24h. Even if u don't wanna leave your bed, just Postmates or Instacart some groceries.

lol WalMart.

Sorry for the late response - Nur is a great option for higher end interesting Middle-Eastern type food as well as ilili.

Rangers games are really fun live, I guess the Knicks are as well though I'm not a b-ball fan.

Jets/Giants will depend on who is in town the weekend your in NYC - looks like last weekend of Nov and first of Dec are both Jets - a fun tailgate, and you can watch the crowd get pissed as they are likely to lose most games. 12/10 is Giants-Cowboys, a really good rivalry, and sure to be a fun game.

MetLife Stadium is a bit of a hike from Midtown if taking public transportation, more to headaches/schedules rather than distance.

Yeah restaurants but I mean grocery stores, it seems like so many here close at 8-9pm for some bizarre reason, I've never seen that anywhere else.

It would take me like an hour to get to most of those places you guys are saying. Agree with lol WalMart, that's sort of my point, even WalMart would be a welcome sight. (replace WalMart with "any store with a decently large selection that's nearby and open all the time"). I live in East New York btw. All I see nearby later at night are these little convenience stores that don't have much and half their stuff is expired anyway.

"I live in East New York."

There's your answer. It's on the come up, but it's still dangerous compared to the rest of Brooklyn, so I imagine the 8pm thing is a reflection of that. You probably won't start seeing better grocery situations until you get west of Brownsville. Or you can just wait a few years and see if all the hype about ENY being the next spot pans out.

Un-possible. As much hope as I have in Paterson, it just keeps screwing itself over and over and over again.
