note for all gelato lab fans: the whole foods on houston has a gelato bar with all gelato lab gelato by the cup (same sizes as the original store). I think they even had a few more flavors than the original store does.

this is great because whole foods is open much later than gelato lab, might even be 24 hours.

I can think of two places to go for gustatorial delight:

1. Poke - sushi restaurant near 1st avenue on E 85th street. Better than anything I've had in NY, and I've had a lot of sushi. It's also not really close either.

2. Minca - Japanese ramen bar on 5th Street between Ave. A and Ave B. I used to go here like 2x a week, I was so entranced by their ramen dishes. This stuff is apparently on par with the ramen available in Japan. You will not leave this place without a full belly. Make sure to try to Torinaku (sp) bowl.

My favorite thing to do: Get off the Amtrak at penn station, hop onto the LIRR and head home

While you're in NYC you should just get on the LIRR, get out onto long island, head to Jones' Beach, come visit me in the lovely Upper Brookville.

One of the best restaurants for young ballas is Park Ave Cafe
You pay your age and round up if your under 25. Meaning if your 28 years old you pay 28$ for a 3 course dinner after 8:30pm. The food is outstanding and the desert
(especially the choc cube and the apple something) is amazing.

Filet mignon and braised short ribs, chocolate cube, and the cavetelli would be my personal reccomendation.

Later this month, I'm taking my gf down for a weekend in NYC (I'm originally from the city). On Friday night we have tickets to the Mets game. On Saturday night, I wanted to go to Shakespeare in the Park for Romeo and Juliet, although I saw that unless one is a patron, tickets can only be had by waiting in line on the day of the show.

For those who've been, what is the typical length of wait? And what time would we begin lining up?

Thanks in advance for any responses, since I would like to know before we get to the city if it will be worth our while to plan on seeing the performance.

PDT (Please Don't Tell), behind Crif Dog's in the East Village.

Walk into the hot dog shop. Open the phone booth. Close the door. Pick up the phone. Ring the bell. THe back of the phone booth opens. Go in and be swanky with taxidermied owls on the wall.

PS: as someone who just moved from LA TYTYTYT to whoever posted that Crackberry (the frozen yougart, not the phone) is in NYC.

Just went to this place last night. Good place if you are looking for an upscale/"gentlemanly" atmosphere.

To all embroiled in the various Peter Luger debates on this forum, a funny thing I read on Eater, one of the websites I have on my google reader:

Apparently Frank Bruni, the New York Times food critic is going to be reviewing Peter Luger Steakhouse for the paper tomorrow. Eater every week has a column where they lay odds on how many stars a restaurant will be given and try to predict the outcome of the review. According to the site:

1.) The Terra Blues in the West Village. NOt really a blues club but a small venue where they have decent local acts. House band is very good.

2.) Panchitos. Cheap sangria, couches from 1970 and an ice cream burrito.

The answer to the best lunch in the city is at Bouley in Tribeca. I am not willing to entertain any disagreement on this. The g/f and i go once or twice a month -- maybe 10 times in total now. Has NEVER disappointed.

Get either the $35 or $48 prix fixe menu; you'll stuff yourself irrespective of which one u choose. It's much more expensive for dinner, which is why their lunch is so great and the best bargain in town.

I know it sounds weird but an interesting dining experience is a place down town called Ninja.

It's an underground "ninja village" where you have nice private tables and get served by ninjas. They do ninja things like disappear on you then jump out of no where, pull menu scrolls out of their sleeves and def order a "ninja art" dish. We got the clam appetizer which was lit on fire during a story. It sounds really odd and corny but it was actually really fun.

A bit of warning, it's not cheap. In fact is pretty expensive, but if you like sake, they have quite a wide selection.

It's at 25 Hudson and easy to miss if you aren't looking for it.
