Just got back from a very short visa run trip to Uruguay, so I thought I would do a TR. My GF and I stayed a night at the Four Seasons in Carmelo. I def recommend this trip.

Got the fast buquebus leaving at 8:45 AM (woke up at 7:00). Cost $250AR. Got to Colonia at 10:00. Got on a bus to the Four Seasons run by Berrutti at 10:25. Cost $16USD round trip. The people at the resort say the only way to get there is by taxi, which cost something like $60USD per passenger/per way. The bus took maybe half an hour longer. the bus station is right next to the port, so it is very easy.
So we head north up the River Plate. The countryside is very nice, especially after being in BA for so long. We arrive at the Four Seasons at 12:00 noon. The resort is actually set half a kilometer back from the road in the woods. On the other side of the road is the golf course. We get there and they take us in a van to the main building. They have porters waiting and some workers with this kick ass cinnamon tea. Check in took very little time. Since we went mid week in the winter, the place was pretty empty. It is basically a lot of bungalows spread throughout the woods, so even if it was booked, there would be a sense of isolation, which is nice.
They show us to our 'room', which is really a cabin. Nicest hotel room I have ever been in. Indoor lounge, outdoor lounge, king bed, entertainment center, dressing room.Huge bathroom. Espresso machine, shoe shine service, luxurious bath products (so says the gf), robes, slippers, Heated floors (!?). private rock garden and other stuff I am forgetting. Oh and this is also the most basic room. It was $250US a night and included breakfast (continental buffet and anything you want off the menu). Another great thing is throughout the room and the entire resort they have bottled water laying around.
So the place is kinda asian themed. It is on the River Plate and has sand beaches, but it was too cold. The outside pool looked awesome, but again too cold. We played tennis on one of the two courts. They gave us racquets and balls. About 5 minutes into playing a dude pulls up in a golf cart and leaves a cooler of bottled water and some towels for us. The gym/spa was all included (not massages) and was the nicest I have ever seen. A tea bar when you walk in with about 20 teas available. The locker room was actually like 5 different rooms of relaxation. You get robes and all the trimmings. Heated indoor pool. Whirlpool/jacuzzi, again with bottled water in every room. The gym was very solid with nautilus and free weights. Rain forest showers with chick body soap that left my skin feeling like what gay guy's skin probably feels like.
The food was the only less than superb part. The menu was in USDs, so a bife de lomo was like $26. I liked everything I got, but nothing blew me away. The gf got some fish that was pretty meh. Lunch and dinner both came out to about $100 US.
We only stayed one night since the main reason for the trip was a visa run, but I would recommend at least two. Door to door it took 5 hours there and 6 hours back. The whole trip set us back about $300 US each, which is pretty sick. The golf course there is supposed to be pretty sweet, so a dude trip would work as well.
Overall, though service was amazing, the room was excessive and the gym/spa was the best part. I am sure it is a lot more expensive in the summer, so I would recommend going in the winter/spring and mid week.
