Looking at alot of apartments on bytargentina, quick question regarding internet, when they say that an apartment has High Speed internet, is that generally a v quick reliable and secureable wireless connection?

Not by US standards but overall it's decent.

Yeah, it's a good idea because it will cost a lot more to buy one here. I wish I had brought one.

If I am not mistaken you are referring to the Portenos being super aggressive towards the women. The rumors are in fact true...a majority of guys seem to employ the caveman approach. It usually entails un cavernicola (as I aptly call them) getting in a girl's face/touching her and basically saying everything you shouldn't say to a girl you have just met while his entourage of giddy friends await their chance to get shot down. Even if there is clearly no chemistry the cavernicola will sometimes shamelessly attempt several unsolicited kisses that usually get shot down. Sometimes you see furtive ass grabs in clubs, but it usually isn't that extreme. The average cavernicola isn't exactly paranoid about getting slapped with a sexual harassment lawsuit.

Every once in a while a girl who appears to not be interested gives in after the fifth or sixth attempt and it is a testament to the value/necessity of effort. Keep in mind however that kissing an Argentine girl does not have the same level of promise that it does when you kiss an American girl and this might deceive some people when they first get down here. Portenas have an insatiable fix for attention and half an hour of making out in a bar is not in the slightest a guaranteed springboard into a one night stand.

The aggression is common and just walking down the street with an attractive girl will inspire middle aged cavernicolas to unabashedly tell her how nice her body is or how much of a luck box you are. One time a truck driver cranked his e-brake while flying through an intersection so he could berate me for not kissing my girlfriend long enough.

It can definitely be much harder to judge a girl's level of interest when she rarely needs to express it. The exceptionally hot ones ward off throngs of cavernicolas on a weekly basis and usually have about three or ten boyfriends if not in an exclusive relationship. I'm not suggesting that the girls are cold and unapproachable, just that they have come to expect quite a bit more time and effort than American girls. If you are planning on coming down here start honing your Spanish and thickening your skin now.

Yup, Argentinian guys, generally speaking, have no game and so - instead - are just persistant and agressive.

As a result, women here, in a socialised repsonse, are incredibly passive and flakey.

There are not un-friendly though and are very easy to make out with. Just don't expect that making out with a girl here carries any signifiance at all.

If so, which cultures produce guys with game? Argentine culture must have produced enough guys with game to reproduce enough to keep the culture alive.

There are plenty of intelligent guys who have figured out what Portenas respond to. What I am suggesting is that for every guy in the U.S. who awkwardly stands in the corner of the bar like he is at a high school dance there is a Porteno who will approach just about any girl and let his thoughts be known. I don't follow the logic that the latter will inhibit reproduction over the former.

I think it is hasty to conclude that Argentines, even generally, have no game or less game than anyone else. An overwhelming percentage of Argentine men are aggressive and it follows that their failures will be publically showcased, creating the illusion that there are more guys with less "game." Though Argentine women have responded with passivity and resistance to showing their affections right away, there are plenty of Argentines who clearly reap tremendous benefits from being aggressive.

It really skews perception of the average when a few gameless cavernicolas obnoxiously will not rest until they are shot down by every girl in a bar. Their gameless American counterparts usually go unnoticed because they don't have the heart to continue after their first couple attempts flop or because they are twiddling their thumbs in the shadows, too nervous to use whatever game they might have.

I'm coming into BA tomorrow (the 2nd) through the 6th before the LAPT in Uruguay.. I have no plans other than just checking out the city, if anyone wants to meet up and be poker nerds over some drinks or food, let me know.

re: girls

My experience has been somewhat different, but then I haven't really tried to meet any girls in bars (and I haven't been here as long). I've met most girls I know here through friends of friends. Girls have been aggressive in talking with me and I didn't really like it. Although I guess I'd note that these girls weren't terribly interested in talking to me until they found out I was an American.

Oh, and at Argentine parties, there's definitely plenty male aggression. And I've seen people making out after about 10 seconds of talking. Or less.

I was there for a month in Feb. and stayed in a 1 bedroom apt in Recoleta. Got the place for $750.00 from byt. Nice building, doorman, AC, internet ...

Of course I didn't suggest that this approach is never successful here. There wouldn't be lots of little Argentinans running around if it never worked (and there are).

Totally agree. A guy who has the confidence to step up and go it will always do better than someone who won't. Lack of game or not.

What I am saying is that Confidence - Game = Scattergun. And it's very typical of the guys here. I was out last night and saw a text book example. Was hanging with a porteño in a bar and he wanted to approach two girls so we went and chatted to them for a while. They seem cool to chat to us. We pulled up chairs and joined them at the table.

Now this guy was a pretty fun guy to hang out with. Had a good fun vibe about him, he was confident and, when he was talking to the porteña he was interested in she was smiling a lot, laughing at his jokes etc.

However, he got so in her face that he screwed up his chances. It was kinda funny.

Hey.

Just moved to Buenos Aires for 6 months -- arived 2 days ago. I'm based right near the Congreso Nacional.

Does anyone know if mobile internet is available here? (the wireless connection in my student house isn't so good) I.e. you plug a USB modem into your laptop and can dial out and receive an internet connection wherever you could ordinarily obtain a cellphone signal? Usually, you have to pay a monthly contract...

Lastly, are there any regular two plus two socials? If there are I would be up for getting involved.

Or get internet installed where you are living.
