What makes you think it's lack of work ethic? He seems like a hard worker and looked in great shape. He's also had a ton of injuries that only Pettis & Cain rival. Possibly the weight cut. Maybe even USADA. He went 5 hard rounds with Machida though and his cardio looked pretty good.
Was kinda weird he gassed after 1 round after looking in such great shape.
If it's the weight cut, LHW would be a good idea right now. That division is hot garbage with Johnson retiring. Weidman could easily be top 5..
He gassed in the second round. He also admitted his family was getting in the way of his training. He even tried to move to his parents house for fight camp and couldn't???
Given the log-jam that the MW division is dealing with, a rematch won't actually get in the way of either Chris or Gegard's track. If that doesn't happen, I think Chris gets a guy on the low end of the top 10 and beats his ass like a red-headed step-child.
Then, they match up Gegard with Romero for the interim belt. Winner of Jacare/Whitaker challenges and everybody just ignores Bisping/GSP. Winner of that is never offered another fight for the rest of their career and we just use the interim belt to determine the middleweight champ.
Re: Weidman gassing
I'd have to re-watch it but I recall a punch early in the 2nd round taking the wind out of Chris' sails. Gegard mentioned this in the post-fight conference as well.
Can't believe they're hyping up Jimi Manuwa so much. He's on a 2 fight win streak against 2 fringe top-10 guys. With Rumble retiring, this division is really a joke. Gus has 1 win over some journeyman in the last 3 years. Guess they better hope Jones gets legal soon and just have DC-Jones rematches every 4 months.
Also don't forget, 3 years ago Gus TKO'd...Jimi Manuwa
Silva's team has said Rockhold isn't one of the fights they're considering, and I don't really blame him. He needs to take on appropriate match-ups, and given the way things are run these days, he'd get a rematch with Bisping for the title by beating anybody.
It's interesting that both Gegard is up for grabs and Jacare will be after this Saturday. I'd be a massive statement if Bellator managed to get them. Depends on how much money they'd need to not care about a UFC title. Both have complained for quite some time about UFC pay and management.

working on the new scoring system and i'm stuck on some jargon.
my scoring system will result in a draw more often, so there will need to be two types of draws.
one draw as a result of limited engagement, too close to call because nobody landed anything, and the other draw as a result of too much action, impossible to determine a clear winner.
this way there can be built in compensation from UFC for an action packed draw. perhaps each fighter could still get their win bonus, or at least half.
"draw without prejudice" for action packed fight
"draw with prejudice" for boring fight
doesn't seem to fit quite right and maybe doesn't fit at all but i can't think of anything better. help!
