yeah, they've made a pretty smooth shift from tastemaking blog to lifestyle brand. still really enjoy much of the writing (jack forster) but it's easy to look at some of their editorial focus leading up to the shop announcement from a pretty cynical angle.

also not entirely fair to ADs who have to carry product lines warts and all.

Ben Clymer has said the editorial team and the shop have a pretty clear divide, but a healthy dose of scepticism is fine. The number of new watches they stock pales in comparison to how many they write about and review so I'm personally not too worried about potential conflict of interest.

That enamel Seiko is really nuts, and very tempting.

As far as that Longines, I really like the 60th anniversary even more

But I don't feel like paying 2k for it, and it's hard to find so deals seem limited.

Longines also now has a quartz watch for 1k that is accurate to +-5 seconds a year.

In the end I found that watches are no longer cheaper in Hong Kong (in anything resembling an trusted seller) - at least not at my end of the market - and couldn't find any models close to what I was looking for even at the official Seiko branded boutique in Kowloon.

Have ordered a SSC142P1 Solar Chronograph over the internet

Not sure I've seen a bronze two tone, but I'm not a fan of a non-heritage brand using an essentially random date(Montblanc started making watches in the 1990s, what does 1858 refer to? The watch style is from the 1940s) and vintage styling that doesn't track back to anything in their catalog.

My Seiko has now arrived at my house in England so I will get it when my parents next visit me.

In the meantime I picked up a Bentime 008-9896A in a pawnshop for 39 euros (originally bought Dec 2016 for 60 euros - still has about a year left on the guarantee - I have the original box, guarantee card and receipt from the original shop - so at least it wasn't stolen).

It will undoubtedly be considered a horror-show by some of the regulars ITT - I'll put the image in a spoiler for you so you don't have to see it every time you come back to this page.

Spoiler:

It's size in mm is 53x46x12. Weight 71 g which is described as "light" but seems relatively heavy on the wrist to someone like me who hasn't worn a watch in more than a quarter of a century.

When my Seiko comes I'm going to give the Bentime to my seven year old son. It's obv. a pretty ordinary watch for an adult to have but I think it's suitably outrageous for a seven year old to have as his watch to wear to school.

First week of experiences as a born-again watch-wearer: It took me a day to get out of the habit of looking at my mobile for the time but now I love having a watch and not having to pull out an electronic device when I'm talking to people. I'm nearly 40 years old now and a watch kind of has to be part of the look of a businessman my age.

Anyway, for anyone lurking this thread who has not worn a watch for a long time/ever and is hesitating - if you can't borrow one then I would recommend picking up a cheap watch of roughly the right size to see how it feels on your hand, if you like seeing the time there instead of just looking at your mobile - if you go the second hand route you can trade the cheap one back in when the nice one arrives without taking too much of a loss (assuming you don't have a seven year old to gift it to).

I was afraid my Black Bay Red would lose its value after the model with the in-house movement came out, but it's actually held due to having the rose on the dial, which I also prefer over the shield. Though it doesn't really matter to me, because I love this watch and plan to keep for a long time.

Yeah, I knew it had the rose because you got yours a little before I did. Ours is the 7922R and the newer generation the M79230R. On WatchRecon, I've seen ours referred to in the title as the Black Bay Rose. Here's a good article about it: http://www.buro247.sg/watches-and-je...black-bay.html

The curved text is objectively cooler than the new Rolex style paragraph of specifications, and a big thing is the ETA version is 2mm thinner. The inhouse one is a monster with that flat caseside and thin bezel at almost 15mm thick.

I like the curved text better as well. Didn't realize the newer generation was also thicker.

Long time since I've been here, by finally just got my first Swiss watch - a Heuer Monza 2016.

I know I could've got a better movement/brand for the money, but I don't care. I love it and have since I first tried it on ~12 months ago. At least it doesn't have tag branding, I just need the original pvd version now...

EXTREMELY Impressed with Tudor's pieces at Basel this year. Seriously considering trading my BLNR for the Tudor GMT + and a pelagos

Yeah Tudor really knocked it out of the park. Their vintagey dress watch line with the waffle dial is whatever, nice enough, solid competitor to Oris, Longines, etc., and everybody loves the Pepsi, but the real winner for me is the 39mm Black Bay 58 which solves the thickness problem.

Only in the gilt black colorway now but assuming they follow the 41mm BB timeline they'll come out with red and blue bezels and a PVD version in the next year or so, and the best part is that the new thinner inhouse movement might give us a smaller Pelagos or an inhouse fixed bezel Black Bay.

I'm surprised there's not more chatter about Omega doing a pretty major redesign of the Seamaster.
