btw am i crazy or Hendricks being only 2 to 1 against wonderboy is complete insanity?
02-04-2016 , 08:07 PM
Seems crazy.

He started at -385. Steadily went to -265, then went to -210 soon after it was announced it was a 5 rounder. Makes sense, as hendricks tends to slow down a bit in 5 rounds, and it gives Wonderboy more of a chance to tko him. Also he hasn't been taken down since the brown fight in which he moved to train with Weidman soon after.

Still think its off a bit. Hendricks has a granite chin it seems, he eats robbies shots like nothing, he's gone 5 rounds before and looks the best shape of his life. And even if Thompson improved it probably isn't enough to stop Hendricks from getting at least half the takedowns he tries.

Seems like a good bet.

Jack Slack has an article on Wonderboy, I feel his breakdowns give better insight than anyone.

cool thx

Yeah I'm putting money on Hendricks for the reasons you stated Stim. He's the best in the division for my money. I think he beat GSP and beat Lawler twice. He doesn't have to worry about that steakhouse any more and looks like he's in good shape for this fight.

In the immortal words of Chi Chi Rogriguez...

Big boots, big hat.... no cattle.

IF Hendricks can't take Wonderboy down I can see Wonderboy outspeeding Hendricks to the point of frustration or even KO. Obv big IF. -260 or -280 seems about right.

Honestly Hendricks probably isn't even a big dog in the striking, if at all. Thompson has great kicks but his boxing is pretty mediocre. Ellenberger dropped him IIRC, and this is deflated berger we talking about. He leaves his chin wide open, kinda like Machida.

And lets not forget Hendricks out struck imo GSP and lawler 2x, starched Fitch and Kampmann. Hendricks isn't a slouch in the stand up.

he could also be tired of losing and just take thompson down at will to an easy victory
02-04-2016 , 09:45 PM
A lot of this is probably based off what wonderboy did to ellenburger

I'm considering betting on Thompson, gonna have a bit of a closer look tomorrow.

surprised they chose Stipe. Maybe he was locked into a contract to fight Werdum for stepping up on short notice? I feel like Overeem would be a much bigger draw, and Overeem could get ko'd and they can lose that chance at any time.

Wonder what that leaves the other matchs ups to be.

I'd like to see

Overeem vs Cain

Rothwell vs JDS.

Overreem isn't even signed afaik and not everyone wants to fight in Brazil.

I'm gonna go for Thompson, so tempted to put him down for a win by KO/TKO. Hendricks looks different to me and I am not sure it is a positive change.

I think Johny is still the best WW in the world. I was downright jubilant when Robbie won the rematch, but Johny got screwed in that decision, just like in his fight against GSP. He's a massive step up for Thompson. Anything less than a decisive win for Johny would be a bad omen, and a symbolic victory for Wonderboy.

Johnny seems to be refocused and came out of whatever funk he was in. The only problem I see is if he's just motivated enough to lose weight so he can stay in the UFC or does he have the competitive fire back that moved him up the ranks and won him the belt?

Here's what he looked like at the open workouts. I'm curious to see how this new physique affects his performance:

After this weekend's card got demoted to a Fight Night, UFC 197 was renamed 196. What does that mean for the planned UFC 200? Will it still take place at the same date as originally planned or will that now be 199?
02-05-2016 , 04:14 PM
Jacare-TRTor got upgraded to UFC198 with the addition of Werdum v. Miocic.
02-05-2016 , 04:23 PM
thats a good event

Demian Maia - Matt Brown too. Maia is 38 and I'd like to see him get another UFC title fight if he wins. His record at WW is excellent. More likely a Brown win gets him a title eliminator v. someone like the Hendricks/Wonderboy winner which is also fine. That card is in Brazil btw, expect a great atmosphere.
