Audio Technica ATH-M50
Views on these for my requirements?

http://www.thomann.de/ie/audio_technica_athm50.htm

The price on Thomann seems pretty good. It includes 3 year warranty also.
Can anyone recommend a better place to buy them?

Thanks in advance!
I'll just chime in for those searching and browsing down the road, I just purchased the ATH-M50 after quite a bit of research and about half an hour in the store trying a bunch of different pairs. In this price range, I liked these the best. Sound quality is excellent, but it's the fit I liked the best. I really wanted to be convinced to go with the Sony MDR7506 at $50 cheaper, but at least for my ears/head they rested way too close to the ear. I couldn't stand five minutes of it.

Ended up going with the Sennheiser 598, overall very happy with them!
The lack of noise cancellation is kind of annoying, the wire is ******ly too long and it comes with a quarter inch jack as standard ( a normal jack connector is provided though)
If you use them for travel their not suitable, but for playing online their perfect!

Some annoying issues but overall I'd highly recommend them to anyone for playing online!!

I am looking for noise cancelling in ear buds, I also don't want to spend a fortune on the elite models. A budget would be preferably be less than £100, quite a bit less if possible. Any recommendations? I have heard the active noise cancelling on the in ear models tends to be not that great.

HD598's are designed as open cans. Looking at the wrong category of headphones if you want noise cancellation afaik.

They allow for a larger sound-stage and I only use my open cans at home since so much sound is let out.

precisely... open backs designs are designed for home use where external sound is controlled and noise cancellation is not needed. it creates a more spacial sound signature... you don't want open backs in a card room where everyone can hear what you are listening to.

The new Bose noise-canceling ones are awesome, but $295.

Any reviews/initial impressions? I literally just bought Sennheiser's RS 170 (for $160, what?), but I'd not mind the option of a mic for gaming. The mesh is a fantastic touch.

Just bought Bose QC20 headphones for my commute and programming without interruptions (aktive NC, inear). Yeah, yeah sound quality, sound shmality. I can't really hear fine differences. I wanted the best NC inears with acceptable enough sound quality (since my music tends to be OGG files anyways) that I could buy without thinking about the price.

One test so far, seems pretty promising, true test will be the train commute to work once my vacation is over

[didn't want any bigish overears etc.]

do yours hiss?

gf's pair do (and i read it in a few reviews) but the other guy i spoke to in this thread had a pair that don't.

I am looking for headphones with a microphone to use while I am at home on my laptop and teaching via skype. So sound quality isn't that important, but mic quality, durability, and comfort are. I have no idea about different brands, etc.
My friend recommended these:

Thoughts?

I had an older model of those when I was playing a lot of online games. Sound quality, mic output and comfortability were all top notch. However, the microphone was reticulating and eventually stopped working for me. I could jiggle it a bit and find a sweet spot to make it work for a time, but it was short lasting. You may find that they have worked on this issue since then, the pair I bought was about 3-4 years ago.

Thanks for the advice. How long did they last before you started having that issue?

I don't recall exactly, but I'd say it was more than 3 but less than 6 months. I'm also really gentle with my stuff; I hung those headphones up after every use, never dropped them, etc.

Anything comparable to the ibeats? Before the lol beats comments, I got them free with my rezound and think they're really good, they're just starting to fall apart

These (if you're looking for over ear):

Audio-Technia ATH-M50. Great headphones (I think they've been discussed in this thread), REALLY good price.

very bulky though.. id suggest senn momentums.
04-02-2014 , 10:54 AM
I have the momentums and use them for work. They're solid construction and have a neutral-warm sound. Only gripe is the earpads are half-way in between over ear and on top of, you kind of slide them in one side.

$200 like new from Amazon warehouse
~$220-240 for "like new in box" with 2-yr authorized dealer warranty
$300 brand new
