I'm looking for some wireless headphones for my pc. I need them for grind sessions...maybe something like beats but not that expensive ($100-$150) Does anyone have any recommendations? ty

I've had some Sony wireless headphones for about a year and I'm very happy with them. Pretty good sound quality (though I'm no audiophile), and a charging dock.

They're in stock at the Sony shop for $170, but I paid a lot less than that (~£40/$60 iirc from play.com): http://store.sony.com/webapp/wcs/sto...ionalImage1%22.

TY bro , I like these a lot! I was checking out the SONY website , seems like there's a similiar pair for a lil bit cheaper like 100- so that's another canidate. How's the durability so far , they seem to holding up ok? I snapped a pair of cheap Sennheisers when I stepped on them by accident....they look higher quality for sure.

Yeah they're pretty solid. They've taken plenty of abuse from the kids dropping them. Found them on amazon.com btw for $107: http://www.amazon.com/Sony-MDRRF4000...9832828&sr=8-5. Quite a few reviews there saying the headband switch fails though. The only problem I've had is them occasionally not seating on the contacts in the charging dock properly, but they might just need cleaning. For the price I paid they're a bargain, and for $100 I'd give them a go and see if you like them.

Oh, one more thing I forgot to mention is that they're not very isolating. My gf is constantly moaning at me to turn them down if she's watching TV in the same room, so keep that in mind if it would be a problem.

Skull Candy Aviators: Wife got these for me for Xmas last year. Really enjoyed them, great sound quality, until a month ago when the jack started getting really sensitive (read: defective). Their basically a pain in the ass now with any device, as I am required to hold the device perfectly still or else the sound goes in and out.

I've seen a few people ask for grinding headphones with no clear answer. I know this is because there likely isn't an obvious choice.

I am need of grinding over the ear headphones. Features I think I would like:

Light

Heavy or very tight things on my head give me headaches.

Noise Cancel/Reduction

I would prefer to not hear my GF watching The Bachelor or gossiping on the phone.

Durable

I travel a lot, **** happens while traveling. Things also have a tendency to get knocked off my desk.

Sound Quality

I am not an audiophile. I do, however, really enjoy music. So just a great all around sound for anything from Jack White to Tool and Pac etc.

I am not price sensitive, however, I don't care to waste money paying for "better" headphones for which I cannot appreciate.

I am in a remote area with no places to test drive a pair. Will be blind ordering online based on your rec!

Thanks so much.

M0n3y - the biggest decision you'll have to make is if you want an open or closed style headphone.

Open = way better sounding IMO, but lets in a lot of noise. (also lets OUT a lot of noise so people will hear what you are listening to.) Example headphones: Sennheiser HD555, Grado SR80, AKG K701/2

Closed = sealed and better noise protection. Big bass can be an advantage. A commonly recommended pair are the Audiotechnica ATH-M50's. I own this pair but don't really like how stuffy they sound.

The AKG K701/2 is the best headphone I've heard in a reasonable price range, but it is open so you'll have to decide if it will block out enough noise for you.

Thanks for the reply. Does open allow more air flow around your ears, ie not as hot after a few hours?

That would seem like a nice feature.

Ordered the AKF K701/2 as you suggested. I enjoy 50% off MSRP, and figure if there is too much noise I can get a second pair for when the GF doing thangz. Rock these when I am home alone.

Contact Skullcandy..their return policy/warranty is very good. I had a pair of basic Ink'd earbuds that I bought at a discount-mart whose jack went bad in a few months. Got the RA from the website, sent them to SC, and got an online voucher for full MSRP credited to my SC account. Ended up having a 15% off coupon as well so I paid an extra $8.50 for a pair of over-ear Uprocks instead.

Just picked up the Denon AH-D700. Any recs for a good amp and DAC to pair with them? I'm leaning towards the Burson Audio 160DS; 2 in 1 rather than 2 separate units. Just have no clue if it's a good paring with the phones.

The new Schiit DAC looks v interesting.

If I was going with a separate amp and DAC, I probably would have went with the Schiit BiFrost and Asgard. I'm trying to find an all in one that pairs well with the D7000

Just a PSA:

If you are paying retail for high-end headphones, you are doing it wrong. I don't know if I'm allowed to post an eBay user profile, but there is a seller there (completely legit) that gives great discounts on cans.

Ex:

Senn HD 650 is $499 on Amazon, you can get it from him for $350 (maybe lower). He only deals in certain brands though. PM me for more info or let me know if I'm allowed to post his link.

Regardless, these products have a very high markup and the price is negotiable. My Denon D7000 retails for $999, I bought it for $580 total.

Wow. You even used the HD650 just to make me feel worse about myself.

How sure are you that these aren't counterfeit?

Audio equipment has an incredible markup, but the companies that are "Authorized" to sell the big name companies aren't allowed to make their own prices.

If there was ever an item to buy off Ebay, audio equipment is it. Not saying that means it's not counterfeit, but the wiggle room for the discounts is definitely there.

How are unauthorized vendors getting their product? Not trying to be argumentative I'm just curious as to how this works.

The only HD650s I see at $350 are both used and have no return policy.

I honestly don't know, but it's always been the case.

Definitely true. I know for some companies if you call in they will give you a better price because of this. Like headphone.com will do that I think.

The thing I'd be worried about on eBay is using the warranty, since it wasn't bought from an authorized reseller (eBay) then often times you may not be able to use the warranty.

He is an authorized dealer and well known in the audiophile community. He has a Buy It Now price but also MAKE AN OFFER tab. He has never turned now $350 for the HD650; someone has gotten $300. It's not an auction. The guy is a power seller with one of the top ratings on eBay.

Just an FYI, you can actually call sites like Jr.com and haggle over price. The discount depends on who actually picks up the phone. Many have gotten 40% off the price listed on the site. Some have gotten nothing.

Meh, I'll just link his eBay listing

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sennheiser-H...#ht_2369wt_922

Offer $350 and he will accept. As you can see its hard to find a more reputable seller on eBay. A 100% rating after 16000+ transactions.

Does anyone know why the Grado SR80 is like $150-$200 cheaper than comparable AT/Sennheiser/Denon headphones?

Nice, thanks.

My HD650 cable busted? What do you guys think is the best solution? I can get a replacement for $25 and they make aftermarket cables that go all the way up to $1,400 for a StefanAudio.

Any sound improvement to be had from the cable?

I have a pair of SR80. I have it equalized (with Behringer DEQ2496, digitally between PC and DAC) as follows:

31,5(hz) +3(db)
40 +3
50 +2
63 +1
..
1600 -1
2000 -4
2500 -7
3150 -7
4000 -4
5000 -4
6300 -7
8000 -4
10K -2

You could probably skip (or reduce) the low end equalization if you wear them like normal, but I bent the over-the-head piece of metal so that it barely clamps (for comfort). Without the mid/high end equalization they will sound harsh/too forward.

That is A LOT of EQ Nielsio. How are you arriving at those settings?
