Sorry.
So I'm looking for closed headphones. No earbuds, with a good bass. My budget is roughly 100-200$.

i am seriously considering buying a pair of one of these right now. anyone else have suggestions?
02-08-2011 , 05:00 AM
Its my birthday this weekend and since my bose QCs are functional BUT > 5 years old, Ive decided on a nice new pair to treat myself. The custom fit program from etymotic intrigued me enough to see if I could find someone to do it in my area, and Ive been in touch with an audiologist who will do it for $140.

I decided on the er4ps but have since learned they might be tough to find in Toronto, and the price for the single pair on amazon.ca is significantly higher than US retailers. If I buy US, then the cost of shipping and potential risk of tax when they cross the border could be a pain in my ass. Should I just go for the Hf3s from the apple store instead, or is it worth the time/effort/money to hunt down a pair of er4ps?

I started this thread and I own the AKG MKII K271 and listen to them more than any other headphone I own. Does that help?

I posted this earlier in the thread, but I'll comment again that I'm not a big fan of the ATH-M50's I recently purchased.

They only have around 30-40 hours on them (many say they take 70 hours to burn-in), but I just can't imagine they are going to change that much.

Just way too harsh/fatiguing and no mids. Imagine a constant EQ that looks like this: \____/

maybe just let them run for 24 hours straight and see if that breaks them in.

on another note, I have the Audio-Technica ATH ANC7b QuietPoint Noise Cancelling headphones and can't recommend them. Sound quality is too irregular even with the noise cancelling turned off.

German QB805 Maestro is a nasty pair, too.

$140 is a rip! imo that's $ better spent on a nicer custom IEM. I had ER4P's and they're really nice but no where near the level or $300/$400+ customs.

$140 is about the cost depending on where you live. I'm sure you can find an audiologist in Des Moines to do it for $80 but naturally his monthly nut is lower.

Yeah, I am going a couple blocks from my house in downtown toronto, rent is not cheap here ... if I wanted to go to the burbs or somewhere else Im sure its cheaper, but the convenience is worth it.

Does anyone here have experience with westones? Someone mentioned to me that I should look into those bc they are higher quality than the etymotics

Same as any earbuds I think.

Great sounding earbuds and the Clip+, doesn't get any better for the poker table.

Have had the s4s for a few weeks, and they've been excellent value for the money. Not sure I could ask for anything more out of a pair of casual earbuds for working out, around the house, etc.

Beats by Dre are probably a bad idea for at home use since their styling is a big part of their appeal.

If you are going to buy them, get them refurbished direct from Monster for $150 instead of $299. Pretty sick refurbished discount and $150 is probably where they would be price-wise it wasn't for the Dre branding/Monster price raping.
