I started out with this Edwin Jagger razor:

It gave a really nice shave, and I liked everything about it except that the handle was too short. After about a year the fake ivory cracked, and it would spin easily, making removing the handle difficult.

I decided to get something with a longer, better handle, so decided to try this Parker:

Not great. The shave was aggressive to the point of being brutal compared to the Edwin Jagger that I was used to. On the upside, the heft and length of the handle was ideal.

Fortunately, the handle threads of the Parker were compatible with those on the EJ, so I now have an excellent EJ head sitting on the perfect (for me) Parker handle.

Figured I'd put this out there for anyone dissatisfied with their current razor's handle. The Parker is cheap enough that you can justify buying it to use just the handle with your current head.

same classic scent, see no difference in quality and just opened a 370ml bottle.

Wife got me the Hone type 15 for my birthday.

First time doing a shave with safety razor. Loaded it with a Persona blade but only had generic gel around.

Not bad. Much more comfortable than cartridge and razor blades much more affordable than cartridges.

Not sure if I should get in to the cream and brush game as it seems like a lot of work and expertise.

What's a good beginner cream/brush?

I never bother with the brush anymore. It's nice, but I'm trying to shave before going out, not look sexy in a romantic comedy.

+1 for T&H (I'm partial to the Grafton, and the same aftershave)

I also recently upgraded to the Silvertip from regular Badger brush and it's like a world of difference. More in the way it glides and feels on the face rather than lather generating practicality (it might whip up lather a bit faster). I'd actually recommend getting the badger first so you appreciate the silvertip.

Current shaving setup:

Recently put the Hue lights behind our mirror, so got the chrome brush and crystal shaving mug to play off the light. Even with all this foolishness, I'm probably way up for not paying $20/blades to Gillette for the past 10 years.

I've stuck with the first DE I got: EJ DE89Lbl chrome lined handle. I might try out that Parker handle, looks better designed. Looks like they're trying to counter-balance with that end piece so it's more centrally balanced.

I hold the EJ pretty much at the top of the handle at the first ring.

Extremely late reply. I don't know that I've noticed a difference in newer bottles, but I do think that I've sort of soured on the scent of Clubman in general since I started. When I first picked up a bottle it was exactly what I pictured an old time shave to smell like. Now It smells sort of sickly sweet to me at times.

I still use it once every few weeks, but it's near the back of my rotation.

Lucky Tiger Aspen is a really good cheap alternative to Clubman, if you haven't tried it. More bite and more talc smell than Clubman, I think.

It really looks like the base is on upside down on that razor.

Nope it's set right. I don't think it's possible to shave with the base upside down since it would sit pretty much flush against the base. The way I have it set creates a slight curve in the blade.

I still like the Mach 3 Turbo with Shave Secret (more of an oil than a cream....works great).
