Re: EDF MMMay/Fightin' Thread

I am hoping all the Yoel hype and Bisping hate translates to decent betting odds for Bisping.

Bisping will beat him and then hopefully GSP will be ready by that point and we will see the 2 GOAT's fight.

Re: EDF MMMay/Fightin' Thread

pissy,

I think Bisping's a live dog, too. Either he gets his head knocked into the mezzanine in the first round, or he jabs Romero's nose off for 5 rounds. No doubt his cardio and work rate will be his major advantages.

ETA: Cejudo out of bout with Sergio Pettis with injury.

Re: EDF MMMay/Fightin' Thread

5 of Romeros 6 finishes in the UFC have come in the 3rd round. He's really good at pacing himself, and his cardio is a lot better than you'd expect for a muscle bound monster.

He gassed bad against Jacare, but that was after going super hard for a finish for almost an entire round. And Bisping would never survive an onslaught like that.

Re: EDF MMMay/Fightin' Thread

Yeah, same thing with Tyron. Both he and Romero have this perception of cardio problems, but have consistently proven themselves game in the later rounds of their fights. Woodley threw more strikes in the third round against Gastelum, Shields and Marquardt than the first two. Granted, he got KOd early in the fourth against Nate, but the point still stands. His output in the latter stages of his fights is often higher than his output in the earlier stages.

I actually see it ending early with Bisping knocking him out in R1 or R2.

Pissy,

I'm not sure why you're underestimating Bisping so much, but I don't like it.

Re: EDF MMMay/Fightin' Thread

Thug, Stim,

I stand corrected on Romero's late round record. Still though, if he paces himself like he usually does, Bisping's gonna outwork him badly. I agree there's no way Bisping withstands any major onslaught, but Romero can be so hesitant (like Woodley) at times that there's some chance his opening never comes.

I can't see Romero winning a grappling match as Bisping's TDD is always top notch and Romero doesn't usually succeed at keeping his opponents on the mat. Could wind up Romero gets sick of eating crisp jabs and wears himself out with takedown attempts.

Don't get me wrong, Romero's definitely the favorite, but the Count will not be undersold!

Bisping-Romero does not seem to be a sure thing, might be a negotiation tactic by Dana.

Re: EDF MMMay/Fightin' Thread

Did you guys forget that Bisping just barely beat a #13 ranked ( ufc rankings, realistically he wasn't even top 15 ) 46 year old Dan Henderson who had lost 6 of his last 9 fights? And Hendo nearly finished him twice?

Sure Bisping can win, this is MMA, but dude is pretty bad for a champ and only has the belt due to Fluke, Luke being retarded, and avoiding top contenders.

Bisping has to be the worst mma fighter to be champ in history (compared to current peers).

Bonus:

Background Stipe.

lol stipe is fantastic. It's rare you get a fighter who is ridiculously nice but also hilarious. Doesn't force it at all either, he's just having a great time with everyone around him.

Dana now saying there needs to be concrete progress on Mayweather/McGregor by Sunday or he's moving on with his life. Definitely don't think its gonna happen now, but then again I never did in the first place...

Re: EDF MMMay/Fightin' Thread

I don't think UFC ever seriously considered it. Even if they make 50 million off the fight it would be a huge loss imo to have Conor completely embarrassed, and possibly retire after making bank. At the very least become incredibly more demanding. And I think it's clear by now Conor & company don't think the Ali Act route would work or they'd already have filed it a long time ago.

I think they just played along for publicity and PR, as to not look like the bad guys. Their terms are probably ridiculous and something they know neither party can agree too.

Hopefully this means we will get a Conor fight announcement soon. Woodleys secret opponent maybe? Or GSP? Secret reason why they cancelled GSP vs Bisping.

Weidman vs Gastelum rumored to be in the works per Helwani

Re: EDF MMMay/Fightin' Thread

I've always thought fight fans allow one loss, so long as you rebound well. Conor lost no momentum after getting tapped by Diaz, so changing sports and getting faded by the greatest boxer of our generation is easy to spin away from existence by the time he comes back to MMA.

I think you're right, though, in that the biggest hurdle is the UFC's cut. It'd be hard enough for Conor and Floyd to agree on what split, but putting the UFC in there probably makes anything an impossibility.

Also, I think Woodley has been planning on fighting in July, so it's probably not GSP.

Re: EDF MMMay/Fightin' Thread

I was thinking more the humiliation factor instead of the loss factor. He'd become a meme after getting absolutely embarrassed. But you're probably right, especially with Conor because he'd just make fun of everyone and do a great job at spinning it.

Also I meant Conor vs GSP, not Woodley vs GSP. Assuming the UFC has no real intention of the mayweather fight, Conor vs GSP is the biggest fight to make.

Re: EDF MMMay/Fightin' Thread

They kinda announced 2 fight for 2017 is connor goal. So no surprises that they need to iron everything fast for the mayweather fight + a mma fight to happen in 7 months.
I don't think Connor can afford to retire anytime soon considering how out of control he is balling.

I don't think one of the 2 would be the boxing match, since they lost the Sept 16th MSG date to Canelo/GGG, so it would almost certainly have to be after that date.

He can just ask Floyd about retiring and then coming back when your money gets low, he's already done it (and now possibly twice)

Re: EDF MMMay/Fightin' Thread

I cannot see how they can plan 2 MMA + one boxing match this year with 7 months to go.
Unless connor KO mayweather fast he ll need some time after beeing punched in the face so many times. i cannot see MMA then boxing then MMA, as it can be derailed too easy because of potential injury.
Now that sound more like UFC planning than connor, i doubt connor care much about MMA if the mayweather match can happen this year.

Conor likely boxes Mayweather next and takes enough of a beating to be on the shelf for six months.

I don't think that was what was implied by statement, I mean the boxing match definitely isn't happening.

As others said, I don't think that's a big risk at all. Dana has been aggressively emphasizing Floyd as the best boxer of all time and Conor being amazing for even entertaining the idea. The only slight hitch would be a devastating KO, but that's unlikely and also still able to spin it to have little impact on MMA. They just do a huge thing about offering Floyd a rematch at MMA that Floyd declines etc.

Real risk imo.
