lol. Of course 12 people already replied to Kirby, but I'll add this: Shane Mosley and Maidana are considered hard punchers among their elite peers, and both blasted Floyd without dropping him. Not only is Conor's power a league below those two, he doesn't even have the skill to get the punch there.

I say all this while also believing Conor to be one of the best boxers in MMA.

Also as said before Conor has only ever 1 shot KO'd anyone in the UFC and that was Aldo who sprinted into his punch. Everyone else it was a sustained beatdown that wore them down which lead to TKOs. And that's with 4oz gloves.

I think his speed, timing, and accuracy are a huge part of his success. He catches guys coming in so often which magnifies his power. Obv he hits very hard too, just don't think it's the kind where he just has to hit you once and it's over. Especially with 10oz gloves & a 10 count.

I think even if Conor lands a big punch, unless its catching Floyd coming in, Floyd will be able to shake it off get back up and survive the vast majority of the time.

forgot he fought canelo oops...

not sure why we're considering pacquiao when hes basically a <140 fighter though?

Surely he wouldnt have that much power at 154?
06-15-2017 , 07:29 PM
Which Conor KOs in the UFC do you think Pacquiao wouldn't obtain with 4 oz gloves? Do you think Aldo could run into a Pacquiao left without snoozing? How about Eddie Alvarez?

As someone who knows nothing about boxing...if Conor tries to fight Floyd as any other traditional boxer would in terms of stance and position it seems like he has to get smoked 99.9% of the time.

Isn't his only option to fight with some strange cross between his normal MMA karate stance/boxing and hope for a miracle while Floyd is figuring him out?

Can Conor feint kicks or would that just void his purse?

i'm guessing everyone's seen the van heerden sparring footage, but here's conor v artem from february this year:

i never care who's fighting, i love fight pass cards!!! woo hoo!! something about content that can only be watched online adds a layer of fun for me.

i think UFC has to be missing out on a lot of revenue by not fully transitioning to a subscription dominant model for their PPVs. i think they will eventually. they will be forced to when the cable companies go under.

i've been paying $10/month for fight pass since its inception and have no intention of cancelling. i also won't pay $60 for a ppv when it's available for free, since i'm willing to obtain it nefariously. i know i shouldn't steal but it's too easy and i want to watch the fights. but i would instantly sign up for $25-$30/month version of fight pass if it included all PPVs.

possibly the UFC is in denial about how many people are watching illegal streams of the fights. if they offered all PPVs as a feature of fight pass for an increased cost, i don't think they'd lose a significant portion of PPV buys. they might not lose any at all.

Excellent ideas Augie.

Someone who illegally streams most events at home (not me) would very likely just pay $15 or so a month for HD access.

Sports bars, (which I assume is where the vast majority of revenue comes from) would still pony up under threat of legal action.

They'd def lose a little business from guys who usually meet up at the bar or pool together the PPV cost to just go to the friend's house who has fight pass.
06-16-2017 , 11:31 AM
not exactly my idea, this is what the WWE network does. i understand reasons why they would be cautious. and their way is working so why change it.

the $60 price is just so absurd. seems a little outdated for the times we're living in, where people voluntarily pay for content they like that's already free. but then they steal content they want that isn't free.

How would you negotiate the pay of a PPV star if UFC had a WWE style network?
06-16-2017 , 12:10 PM
It's hard to answer since no one know how much they would make.
Maybe they would have way more subscribers overall which would make them more money from sponsorship aswell. Or it could be a net loss overall.
I d be surprised if they were not making way more money in the long run.

a boi can hope

I would go full Eddie Bravo for Floyd throwing the fight for a rematch, but his ego and legacy is on line.

Bet infinite money to win 15% return.

the argument that people who pay $0 will gladly pay $25-35 per month is lol

Guys - what's your line?

i) McGregor wins at least one round on one of the judges' scorecards.
ii) There is at least one round which McGregor wins on two of the judges' scorecards
iii) O/U number of power punches (as measured by CompuBox) McGregor lands.

thanks, but that's not what i said. i think people who are paying $10/month would pay $30/month if PPV was included.

WWE network is $10/month and includes all PPVs which used to sell at the same price as UFC PPVs and do better numbers that UFC are putting up today.

WWE network has 1.6 million paid subscribers, Fight Pass numbers are hard to come by by since Zuffa and WME are privately held but I've seen estimates from 100,000 to 450,000. Let's go with 450,000 and say if the UFC added PPVs to Fight Pass they'd add one million buys = $120 million dollars revenue per year - minimal cost of extra bandwith - whatever international buyers like BT Sport in the UK pay.

How much does UFC make from PPV sales?

According to http://mmapayout.com/blue-book/pay-per-view/ the UFC sold 8,775,000 PPVs in 2016. WMG make ~$30 PPV per PPV which is $263,250,000. However that includes 2 McGregor fights, one Rousey fight & UFC 200 so better that you'd project for, say, 2018. So for this year the UFC has held 5 PPVs and sold 1,050,000 PPVs + whatever they get for Aldo-Holloway. They'll end up selling half or slightly less than half of the number of PPVs they sold last year, which would make the maths very close - assuming they add 1 million subscribers.

If Floyd ever considered throwing a fight, why not do it against Manny?

oh yeah i wouldnt argue with that - but I don't think that would help UFC's bottom line esp when FP numbers arent doing all that great from discussion I've seen on twitter etc

I can download pretty much anything without effort and i dont mind paying for netflix as a way to support them.
People who pay 0 might pay if it s a reliable service with a fair price.
