The fact that they get back shows why Sonnen is a better wrestler than GSP. I know Silva didn't get back to his feet once in the fight and I'm pretty sure Marquardt never got back to his feet once he got taken down. Once Sonnen gets his opponent down they stay down.

Except for when Anderson took Sonnen down twice... lol. Sonnen promptly turned it around and got Anderson back down but hes just not as good as GSP imo. Gsp also has never been submitted 11 times or hip tossed by a BJJ guy who should be fighting at 170 and subbed 5 seconds later.

I have to agree... that Daley was very lucky to win that fight. He didn't really connect with any good punches and was being beaten to the punch by Masvidal's jab over and over for most of it. If it wasn't for Masvidal backing off in the last round Daley loses I'm quite sure. Also, once again he made some stupid rude comments to the crowd at the end. (sparked by the booing of the decision I assume )

As Don Frye said: "Don't turn your back on that guy until you have left the building."

What fight were u watching that Silva took Sonnen down twice? The one time Silva was on top of Sonnen was after Silva dropped him with strikes in the 4th round and then pushed him down.

And submission defense has absolutely NOTHING to do with wrestling and has everything to do with the fact that Sonnen has disdain for BJJ and routinely bashes it.

Sonnen also got ragdolled by Demian Maia FFS.

FightMetric credited Silva with 1 takedown FWIW.
09-13-2010 , 02:25 AM
That was the 4th round after Silva dropped Sonnen and as Sonnen was trying to get back to his feet Silva pushed him down and got on top. He didn't have a clinch trip or a single or double leg.

Maia actually has great clinch takedowns just because he didn't get close enough to takedown Silva doesn't mean he has bad takedowns. It's not like GSP wasn't taken down by Koscheck or Matt Hughes.

I don't know what you've heard about him, but he has always been a fringe top 10 guy. I wouldn't say he's overrated at all. He's gotten older, and his cardio stinks now.

If he did win the standup by a "country mile" why didn't he rock Mas even once then? In the end this might be worse.

Finally Daley did not make weight again. If he has real talent his brain or lack of it is doing a good job at squandering what he has.

I would say he won it by a country mile cause I dont remember Jorge landing a decent strike the entire fight.
09-13-2010 , 03:49 PM
Was anyone else really impressed with Masvidal's striking defense? I thought it was pretty amazing. He managed to slip every punch. Looked like Korean Zombie vs Garcia, but doing it against Daley is more impressive.

I don't think many people think that. It's also what he does once the fight has been brought to the ground.

So EDF, what do we think of Penn/Hughes III set for UFC 123?
09-13-2010 , 08:40 PM
not surprised
09-13-2010 , 08:45 PM
I like it. BJ needed something different (ww fight, high profile opponent, past history) and Matt Hughes has looked pretty good since his fight vs Alves.
09-13-2010 , 09:33 PM
123 could be a pretty sick card.

* Quinton "Rampage" Jackson vs. Lyoto Machida*
* Joe Lauzon vs. George Sotiropoulos*
* Tim Boetsch vs. Phil Davis*
* Matt Brown vs. Rory MacDonald*
* Dennis Hallman vs. Karo Parisyan*
* Nik Lentz vs. Tyson Griffin*
* Paul Kelly vs. Gabe Ruediger*
* Darren Elkins vs. Edson Barboza*

And now BJ Penn vs Matt Hughes?
09-13-2010 , 09:35 PM
Shouldn't Hughes be able to GSP Penn in this fight? Provided of course that he tried to wrestle him instead of standing.
09-13-2010 , 09:43 PM
oh sweet nik lentz
09-13-2010 , 10:03 PM
heh thats actually a pretty cool fight, good move for Penn too probably wrt motivation after those 2 losses. One of the earliest fights I can remember even is the 2nd hughes/penn, where Penn was not in shape at all.

What's natasha and logan up to now? Random modeling jobs?

UFC 123 is awesome, a ton of different stories and fights.

Sotir/Lauzon could be interesting

Karo return always good for the dramabombs

Been MMA betting a lil bit now, gonna give some plays here for fun, I think this card has some really solid ones. I'm shocked Gunderson is a dog

Marquardt -240
Jim Miller -160
Gunderson +115
Natal -235
