There's nothing in the rules that states you must play nice when the bell rings. Same thing I said after Mayweather-Ortiz: protect yourself at all times.

Something like this happened somewhere in the UFC 9x or maybe UFC 10x too.

It's pretty douchey.
03-18-2012 , 10:11 PM
completely douchey , also douchey when mayweather did it .
03-18-2012 , 10:11 PM
Struve did it in round 2 of one of his fight iirc after having gotten demolished in the first.
03-18-2012 , 10:12 PM
people who pretend to touch glove then punch are pure scum though. Don't care what the rules says.

Kind of annoyed with all the excessive glove-touching. If i didn't want it for whatever reason i would just let it be known though, as it seems standard (unfortunately).
If the opponent come storming and you put your glove out, you're quite dumb.

Do you remember which fight?
03-18-2012 , 10:15 PM
also mayweather situation not the same. we're talking about an opponent who tries to headbutt you intentionally several times.
He then says sorry, touch gloves.
Then comes to hug you even though you have your gloves up? lol.
Only thing i disliked about that was the fight being over. If piece of **** Ortiz had gotten up i would have enjoyed it very much.

Kelly vs Cerrone.

I just watched a replay of Struve Morecraft. That didn't seem too bad to me. He touched gloves then did a leg kick. I don't think that was the deciding factor for the knockout.

+1 to all of this. Touching gloves every fight is lame but using it to sucker punch is a pathetic angle shot. I don't understand people who defend this crap at all.

Just got back from cornering my friend in his first MMA fight, well some what, hes 18 so it was really toned down, head gear etc and more dumb rules but he won and looked good out there. Pretty sure I yelled more then Kieth Florian.

I think it's scummy to pretend to go for a glove touch and then swing. But I also think it's perfectly fine to punch someone who is putting up their hand for a glove touch.

Yea, as long as you don't fake it I don't mind it.
03-19-2012 , 01:40 AM
Just saw the video linked. I think in that case, it is perfectly fine. The referee is bad though, he is standing too far away to stop it quickly enough. That and his reaction to an unconscious fighter seems slow. Am I just expecting too much out of refs?
03-19-2012 , 01:56 AM
in general it's pretty grimey, i think you might want to do the hand up head nod *we gonna touch* thing though.

In that vid, 1 was thinking glove touch, other was thinking chin touch.
03-19-2012 , 02:05 AM
That one wasn't as bad as acting like you're going to touch and punching, but still weak. It's not hard at all to shake your head no immediately.
03-19-2012 , 02:09 AM
I think it's like you see a glaring opening in your opponent's defense and just want to directly advance to face smashing.

my god the first youtube comment on that girl not touching gloves and knocking the other girl out is hilarious:

Really? Wow. It's called etiquette and not being a chump. If you do something like that you aren't a competitor, you're just an angle shooting chump with no self confidence. It's massively douchie.

Also Mayweather-Ortiz was a completely different scenario.

Seems pretty clear to me in the video the girl comes forward with her lead hand extended as if to touch gloves, and they actually do touch and then she immediately throws the over hand right.

Seems like a clear angle shoot.
03-19-2012 , 05:43 AM
Eliminate glove touching. Not needed. I like it when fighters reject touching of gloves at the start, you guys are gonna fight save sportsman lovefest til the end.
03-19-2012 , 05:53 AM
I honestly think most people do it because it's super standard to do in training everytime you spar with somebody. So it's like a ritual and something that helps you get set and ready.

You notice most of them after they touch gloves they reset.

I don't care if fighters touch gloves or not. Faking it though is super douchey. Giving any indication at all you're going to touch gloves then not is a high level scum move.

If you give no indication of a glove touch and just blitzcreig, I don't think it's that bad. I mean preferably you'd shake your head no to wave off the glove touch, but if not it's not like you did anything bad.

I think everyone should be forced to gong and dash like my boy The Colossus James Thompson.
