I'm just really disappointed in this whole thing. Also, would also be surprised if Affliction didn't fold afterward. Barnett is such an idiot.
07-22-2009 , 10:36 PM
2nd time hes been caught to, I just dont get it... er well I do but come on.
07-22-2009 , 11:26 PM
The more I think about it, the more this situation sucks for Fedor. Barnett put him in a no win situation. If he cares about his legacy, he should turn down the Vitor fight; there is simply nothing in it for him, besides money. He wins, who cares; he loses, his legacy is ruined. It would suck to get caught with one punch with a 4 ounce glove and see a career wasted.

With friends like Barnett, who needs enemies.

Karitonov, but he might be way out of shape.
Monson fights all the damn time. When he beat Kharitonov, it was his third fight in 2 weeks.

since Kharitonov just lost to Monson and it was a pretty one sided fight, I would much rather see Monson vs Fedor than something like Vitor vs Fedor. The only middleweight I would ever be interested in seeing fight Fedor is Anderson Silva.

I'd love to see Monson. The guy's a pretty damn good fighter, he's mostly just limited by his size. Hell, if his arms were a couple inches longer, he probably would have beat Sylvia for the UFC title. He's got some decent names on his wins list (including Kharitonov & Nelson within 2 weeks with a fight in between) and his recent losses (only Sylvia, Rizzo, Barnett in the last 7 years) are against pretty good fighters. If he was bigger, he'd be a top 10 HW.

i don't think fedor is self-absorbed and egotistical enough to have something ******ed like his "legacy" play much of a role in his decision making process at all
07-23-2009 , 12:36 AM
It may be worth mentioning that Fedor may well not contractually have an option to cancel the fight. He may well have to do it anyway whoever they name.
07-23-2009 , 12:52 AM
IMO there's no one in the line up that has much of a chance. The best candidate I guess is Monson who is in shape and might not be too beat up and is a sick grappler. I think he'd get absolutely crushed. He's been pining for a shot at Fedor in interviews, and barring real contenders is the one I'd like to see fight him.

the problem with him fighting vitor instead of monson or yvel or some other "meh" hw is that it ruins the other headline matchup, vitor/santiago, which i was actually looking forward to more than fedor/barnett. the whole card takes a dump if they're fighting each other.

Yea, it just doesn't make sense all together. They should just pull the card really, it sucks but its better then putting on a half ass card that is probably gonna bury affliction all together.
07-23-2009 , 02:33 AM
saw a couple rumors saying jake shields would step in to fight santiago. thats not bad.

He had to renew his license with CSAC.

This. Unless somehow Vitor/Fedor is the only fight they can put together, they should really be protecting the Vitor/Santiago fight. I don't expect that to happen though.

I have not read the MMA websites except for the basic headlines. Is there a lot of venom for Barnett from the fans? I hope he never works again after the second time positive myself.

Wasn't one of the Affliction Producers rumored to be busto anyway??
07-23-2009 , 03:49 AM
Exactly. Why ruin 2 good fights? If Fedor vs Barnett can't be saved, then give Fedor any heavyweight that's available, and let the rest of the card go untouched.
07-23-2009 , 04:33 AM
100% do not want Belfort/Fedor for the reasons mentioned above.

I'll take Fedor versus Kimbo before if it means I get to see the Belfort/Santiago fight.

Affliction doesn't have all that many PPV buys to lose in the first place. Affliction is well on it's way to folding, regardless of this fight. Obviously, this will likely help expedite the process.

vitor seems confirmed.

this sucks.

Wanderlei Silva vs. Michael Bisping rumored for UFC 105 in the UK

Source: MMAMania.com

This would be SICK. Not because either fighter is a title contender but because there is guaranteed to be highlight reel fireworks (sorry Bisping...) and the UK fans are going to go nuts (before the fight, but not after).
07-23-2009 , 01:07 PM
It appears will know the real story today according to sherdog.

Silva/Bisping would be fun. It would be cool to see if Bisping is fast enough/willing to tighten up his defense enough to not get knocked out again the very next fight.
07-23-2009 , 01:22 PM
Fedor vs Kharitonov is a fight i've wanted to see for years and it might motivate Kharitonov so we see the best from him.

Between Bisping and Wandy i think a lot of people in UK would want Wandy to win, people who don't really know who any of the fighters are would probably want Bisping to win

Oh and UFC 105 is expected to be televised in the U.S. for free. Even better.

After reading more about the steroid fiasco on Bloody Elbow, I am shocked at how incompetent the state athletic commissions are. I knew they were bad but this is beyond ridiculous.

First of all the Barnett test was "random", but it was the first time CSAC had ever done it. Apparently the steroid in question can be cycled out of your system in ~3 weeks so he was probably going to test clean for the usual, event-time test. Obviously it seems like the logical thing to do is to have more out of competition tests.

Also NSAC doesn't usually do out of competition tests either and they definitely didn't do it for UFC 100. So every fighter on UFC 100 could have been using the exact same PED that Barnett used but we'll never know. If cycling is this effective I hope the AC's start testing all fighters under UFC/Affliction/Strikeforce/etc contract randomly throughout the year as opposed to just at the time of a fight. The fighters have figured out how to pass those tests.

***UPDATE: Not so fast, according to Silva’s manager via Fighter’s Only Magazine:

“The rumors about Wanderlei fighting Michael Bisping at UFC 105 in Manchester or at any point are simply that, rumors. For some publication to say they have been given an exclusive statement on this from Team Wand is not truthful. This fight has not been discussed or offered to us by the UFC. Wand’s preference is to fight in February. He wants to take time off to heal his body and mind, and with his new gym in Las Vegas, he has business affairs and a growing team to attend to.”

Damnit.

I hope they still fight. I really want to see one last Wanderlei KO.
