Even if someone puts up a monthly MMA thread in SE, I'll post one here. SE is toxic to MMA discussion. Imagine every baseball n00b getting into it with kyleb, Thremp, etc. about baseball. That's how I feel in MMA threads over there.

Going to spoiler this in case any of you are planning on watching K-1 MAX Final 8 on HDNet on Friday.

The WWE is nothing more than silly entertainment but it pays its top earners very well.

Thanks, I was basing the figure off of what HHH and Undertaker generally make as I know that HHH for years has been one of the highest paid guys at around 2-2.5 from when I subscribed to WOTN. IIRC, Lesnar's leaving Titan Towers was because Vince was going to give him a sizeable paycut that would put his pay below that of HHH and more right around what Angle and Paul Wight were getting (which is in the general 1-1.5m figure range that I threw out there)

regardless, like DKsr said, the fact that he's not on the road 250-300 days a year flying across country left and right and headlining the big foreign shows that most of the wrestlers hate is a major factor in him doing MMA. He can be with sable and his child, train at home and be much happier while still making relatively close to his original WWE contract

Plus the top of 170 seems to be packed with grapplers at the moment, which I think obviously favors Maia.
that would be an interesting switch down for Maia. I think he could do very well, but it is almost a catch-22 for him if you think about it. Being in a division that is grappler heavy, you will also have guys that will be good and great at defending submissions, and you have wrestlers that have excellent boxing skills. Really, maia needs to improve his striking skills some more in general as he certainly has serious talent

A coworker of mine who is about 5'7" 160 recently got attacked by some random 6'4" 220 drunk dude who was talking **** to him for no reason. My coworker is a BJJ blue belt and has also trained in Muy Thai. The drunk guy followed him to the lobby of his apartment building and tackled him. My coworker swept him from guard, then punched him from mount, and subdued him with a rear naked choke when he gave up his back until the police got there. This was all caught on the apartment's security camera. My coworker is trying to get the footage on his computer so he can put it on youtube. I will post it if that ever happens.
Here is the video:

Not that exciting as far as fight videos go, but still a cool story.

hahhha I can't even put into words how bad ass that is. the people that just walk by like nothing is happening and the desk guy just standing there is weird/sad. but then again I'm not sure what I'd do if I came home one night and saw 2 guys grappling in my lobby.

lol sherk is fighting tibau next. if hes done wrestling i guess it helps to get matched up with guys that can't box at all

Anybody know who the next Fedor grappling exhibition is going to be against? I remember hearing about it (I think on Inside MMA) but I can't remember the details.

Wow... Fight is not really a fight (your buddy did an awesome job smothering the guy). The real awesomeness in this video is the people walking by and the casual attitude of the desk clerk.

That video makes me want to become a Korean lawyer

Fedor and Mousasi said late last year that they would be competing at ADCC 2009 this September but that is the last I've heard about it. I wouldn't be shocked if those plans changed and it is notoriously difficult to find news about ADCC.

I've also heard rumors of a Fedor/Mousasi grappling exhibition at an M-1 card in August (the same card that King Mo/Don Frye is supposed to be on). I haven't seen anything on BE or Junkie about it yet though. Also I would think that if either fighter took moderate/serious damage at Affliction the exhibition would be canceled.

The discussion here has been very high quality compared to other forums. With increased noise, the better posters lose interest in posting and the quality/noise ratio goes even lower. I think keeping the monthly thread in EDF is the best option. By all means start one in SE, but I would hate to lose the EDF thread and only have one MMA thread in SE overrun with general sports fans.

I just checked SE for the first time, and the UFC 100 thread was pretty ugh I agree.

on a side note, when walking into mandalay bay a guy in a white shirt rolled by me going out that i recognized immediately and i was able to get a cool pic of mauricio shogun rua

later that night i ran into rampage at the hard rock too and got to ask him about rashad, "you gonna knock him out?" "**** yeah". "memphis style?" "YOU KNOW IT"

these 2 guys at 205 scared the **** out of me in person. they're intimidating people to be near.
07-14-2009 , 03:58 AM
I'm jealous that you got a pic with Shogun, i think i might have some sort of mancrush on him lol.

You could see him (and his kinda annoying manager) standing in the 1st row whenever the fighters were getting Vaseline put on their faces and being checked up before going into the Octagon. Its weird why the UFC director doesn't show more shots of famous people/fighters in attendance.
