I think he has. If he tested + for roids, he's obv a huge idiot and ahole but it's not like he killed his own mother to win this fight.

Damn what a ****ty week for MMA news. Kinda makes me feel like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JCA4-8tq0mE (NSFW language).

But then I remember that there are 6 major events in August and life is sweet.
07-22-2009 , 11:24 AM
Well guys I knew August was too good to be true, like realllly too good.

Even though we have lost two huge fights the month is still stacked beyond belief. I was looking forward to Fedor vs Barnett the most, now its Silva vs Forrest, I truly think that fight has epic potential. Thoughts?

Also can you really call Barnett legit 2nd rank HW after being caught twice now?

Not in my opinion.

He is a doper. He is just like Mark McGuire to me now. F him he should not be allowed to fight.

I think this is pretty much the final nail in Affliction's coffin.

I was really looking forward to this fight.

So i guess if it wasnt official yet it is now.

With Barnett out, Belfort makes verbal commitment to face Emelianenko at "Trilogy".

Why "now" and not the other time(s?) he got caught juicing? I always liked watching his fights and enjoyed him in Pride Fighting Decade but this aint his first rodeo.

What a fool though anyone know how much he loses money wise? The amount Affliction has been paying im guessing we are talking about at least 250k. I think it was reported Sylvia got 800k and Andre got 500k but im too lazy to find out for sure. Those paydays dont come along everyday. What a fool.

lol Belfort dodges Mousasi b/c he wants to "stay at middleweight" only to then go up to HW to fight Fedor. Based on Belfort's greediness I'd imagine he's making $500k+ for this.

I think this greatly increases the chance of Fedor to the UFC at some point

How so? I think it's the exact opposite.

If Fedor had beaten Barnett then the UFC would be heavily pressured to sign him. Beating an aging middleweight won't have nearly the same impact. This also leaves Barnett out there for a future fight. And let's not even get into the possibilities of Vitor winning and how that affects Fedor's future.

Ultimately I think the results are pretty much the same. This will still be Affliction's last card since they can't even break 100k buys and Fedor will be headed off to Japan or if we're lucky, Strikeforce.

Who knows how Fedor feels that now that he doesn't fight a top 10 HW at Affliction 3.

If he feels he now has to prove himself as the #1 heavyweight, it is more likely he signs with the UFC.

If not it doesn't change much of anything.

In short, this was basically my line of thought. Fedor is still pretty much in his prime but is nearly on fumes as far as worthy challengers remaining (outside of the UFC).

It would be a disaster for Lashley to take this fight and I am not so sure a guy training for a fight at middleweight would be wise to move up to face the top heavyweight in the world....
LOL at Lashley fighting Fedor, but if he did and won, I'd definitely go to Sherdog just to see the hilarity that ensues with a Fedor loss + the 2 biggest MMA heavyweight titles being held by former pro wrestlers.

I didn't mean to suggest I was cool with it before. It made me a little sick that he got to have the shot with Fedor, but I was going to enjoy the whipping he was going to receive. Yup, pretty foolish. I hope lots of fighters see it as a negative outcome. It is pretty stupid on its face, just not worth the health risks. Also, it's just plain cheating. Obviously, Barnett did not have the name of the other two fighters, so he would not have been paid so well. Hopefully, he won't have any name at all IF INDEED this allegation proves to be true.

It appears Belfort (MIDDLEWEIGHT lol) replacing Barnett to fight Fedor (heavyweight, and "GOAT") is official.

God, what a mismatch
07-22-2009 , 03:48 PM
Barnett is officially a f'ing ******.
07-22-2009 , 03:55 PM
I would like to see Brett Rodgers step in and fight Fedor. I know he'd probably like more time, but it would be a statement fight for him. If he loses badly... he knows he's got to work even harder on his game. If he makes a fight of it and loses, he proves he can hang with the big boys... if he wins, and I'm not saying he has much of a chance, his stock soars.

More I think about it, probably not an opponent Fedor's camp would want to have as a fill-in on short notice.

This would be my ideal fight in this spot though.

Werdum would be a good fill in as well.... you'd have to think he's been training since he was set to fight Overeem in two weeks. If Strikeforce could work out some deal to share some profits or something... Werdum/Fedor would actually be some sort of a fight over Belfort/Fedor.
07-22-2009 , 04:02 PM
Atencio says they are negotiating with 3 fighters to fight Fedor, and one of them is Vitor Belfort.

Tito?
Monson?
Werdum?
Lashley?

That would possibly have been a better fight, though I think Rodgers only has punching power really. Arlovski just unfortunately never learned to not go straight back his first day in a boxing gym, or any day after that either I guess somehow. I would not be surprised though if Fedor has a bit harder time with Vitor actually.

Ugh. I would have taken Fedor vs. any of the names you guys have listed instead of Vitor. Mainly b/c it screws up Vitor/Santiago which was the only other top 10 vs. top 10 fight on the card.
07-22-2009 , 04:27 PM
I may not even buy the fight now. I did not think I would say that. I am already looking more forward to the Gina Carano fight than that one anyway.
07-22-2009 , 04:28 PM
I'm not familiar with The Fight Network and still haven't come across official word from any of the big names in MMA journalism so perhaps there's a tiny chance that this Belfort news is still in the rumor stages.
