I'd give him some leeway for what I assume is a college student in Nebraska. Probably is relatively normal.

Agreed. I rocked a white undershirt my entire freshman year, but that summer was in DC and realized no one out of college did it and abandoned them. Nowadays I just rock the deep v-neck undershirt when one is needed.

I'm not sure about that no undershirt rule. I don't typically wear them, but don't think there's anything wrong with it either.

Zach- There is a monster peacoat thread on styleforum

What would you wear them with?

I agree that they look like super nice shoes, but I don't know what I would wear them with.

Looking for a new pair of black semi dress shoes to wear to work. Business casual for the most part, as I have a couple of pairs to wear when I wear suits.

Price range: $100-$150. Most of my clothes are from Express/Banana. 24 y/o semi recently out of college...any suggestions appreciated.

Currently own these by Johnston & Murphy for my brown pair:

That pair from J&M should keep you pretty warm in the winter after you pitch them into the fireplace.

Yes. And do yourself a favor and dont buy black "semi dress" shoes especially if you might be tempted to wear them with khakis

I just like a simple black cap-toe shoe. The AE Park Avenues / Fifth avenues are the most popularly recommended, but AE never fit me right.

If you like Johnson and Murphy you can just pick up one of their cheap cap toes.

But if you're going to wear them with jeans, White's semi-dress are the bomb. They're going to be a bit more than $100-150 tho.

Given that I've just started wearing jeans again, I fell I need a little guidance. Lighter jeans are not cool anymore (right?), but I can't help that I think they look better. Guidance on when to wear lighter jeans, or is the answer never?

FWIW, I'm talking about something like this:

furthermore, what about something like this:

Mittens, you need to check out the raw denim thread. Not that there's anything inherently wrong with light wash jeans, but it's very easy to get into dad jean territory.

Nothing wrong with a pair of lighter jeans as a change-up, but you still want them slimmer and better fitting than the ones above. Nudie etc have some good ones.

Any thoughts on shoes like these? I'm not a fan of the "star" symbol, but I'm looking to get something similar to this and was hoping to get some suggestions/opinions.

With jeans, I think the safest rules to follow are:
- dark wash - but not black.
- straight-leg ( not boot-cut or relaxed )
- slim-fitting is OK - just don't get skinny
- fairly low-rise ( the distance from waist to bottom of crotch basically )
- no weird logos/patches on rear pockets.
- make sure the length fits properly or the jeans will bunch. If you need to get them adjusted, make sure the tailor takes up the entire hem.

If you want to go cheap, a lot of people like the Levi's 514 series jeans - around $30 and a good fit for most non-fat people.

I disagree with most of that because it's personal preference and those shouldn't be hard and fast rules. Some people like a skinny black jean, or a high rise jean, or stacked at the hem. If you are a typical poker player type though, you probably won't go wrong following that list and it would be a safe place to start.

Agree with this. Mittens, just get some APC's in a fit you like and wear the hell out of them.

Where is the best place to buy AE shoes nowadays? I've seen a few sale sites ITT but they are all expired. I can't bring myself to pay 250+ for a pair of shoes (at least not now), and I don't want to settle for the uglier/cheaper ones (looking to buy park ave's, fifth ave's, strand or van ness etc). Thanks
