I am looking for shoes. I'm a 31 year old male and have worn nothing but sneakers my entire life. Not looking to go all wingtip oxfords or whatever fancy shoes are called, just something a little more adult looking than my Nike free runs and still comfortable. Any suggestions?

wearing with jeans, or chinos or what? A good pair of lace-up boots can work with a pretty wide range of outfits and have a lot of support.

For chinos you're going to want something a little less sleek, with open lacing like a derby or blucher.

Red Wing Iron Ranger would be on the more casual end of the spectrum:

https://www.redwingheritage.com/us/U...ber-8111-08111

You could also look at the Wolverine 1000 mile boot or the AE Normandy

Something like the AE Higgins Mill would be a little dressier but still not stuffy:

If you don't want a boot you could try something like the AE Leeds

https://www.allenedmonds.com/shoes/m...213_color=9523

If you really want to push closer to the dressy end of the spectrum then maybe something like this cap toe AE:

There are some other options but you mentioned you don't want to go wingtippy; I'm not sure if it's the broging that you don't like or not, but you might take a peek at these and see what you think:

Two brands I like for jackets are Epaulet and Apolis. You can check them out on the secondhand market as well. Or just get a peacoat.

Looking for somewhere to get a Tuxedo made as I'm not an "off the rack" body type (6'4" tall thru the body; 56" chest athletic "ish" (a few old guy pounds). Don't want to spend $1,000s and $1,000,s but need a decent garment. I live in the DC area but have no problem hoping on the train to NYC if that's what it takes.

Also any suggestions for larger (or made) shirts and real tie bow ties (20" neck)

Anyone have a favorite tailor / place? (can't go to Brooks Brothers or other rack places.

Thanks!

rebooting the wardrobe, any general commentary appreciated. i'm starting with a barebones of sorts from reddit, getting everything tailored, then just gonna add as i see fit (will prob splurge in watch thread as well). i've decided i need to try just buying a bunch of **** online as opposed to looking in stores. i live in a never-rain climate so don't need to go overboard on outerwear (tho i do love me some sweaters).

- 3 outlier ultrafine merino tees (gray, olive, blue)
- brooks brothers oxford button down (blue, white)
- epaulet rivet chinos (khaki, olive)
- outlier black shorts
- bonobo shorts (gray, white, navy, khaki)
- j crew sweaters (indigo, pewter, grey)

already am good on jeans.

once i get these i plan on trying shoes/watches/accessories in person (tho could also just use joma). basically looking for suggestions on random stuff to add. i also have no idea what direction to go for outerwear, there's prob a good bomber jacket for mild climate out there somewhere.

My newsfeed is flooded with Tafts Dragon Boots (which apparently go for $350 a pop) - anyone try these out? Reviews I've seen so far are either 5 stars or 1 star

Some general suggestions. I like Bonobos for pants, J.Crew for button downs (especially Thomas Mason), Homespun for henleys, Howlin and Epaulet for sweaters, Quoddy for loafers, Epaulet and Apolis for outerwear, Epaulet for sneakers (also like Maison Margiela, Adidas Ultraboost and APL Techloom). Or you can really go Epaulet for everything.

Reviews ive seen were positive but it fits narrow / minor concerns about arch support.

~70% of my wardrobe is Outlier, so I may be a bit biased, but I'd suggest springing for the gostwyck tee as well, it's quite a bit softer/finer than the standard UFT's, although I'd still wear UFT's over pretty much any other tee out there.

Also, their pants are quite life-changing, even more so than their shirts, and their return policy can't be beat (45 days, can be worn/washed/etc.) so I'd definitely give a few a try. SD's are probably the most popular, but the futureworks can't be beat in the heat (though less stretch), and the climbers feel like yoga pants (but are quite slim).

Their subreddit is pretty active too with a lot of good info.

what's the current go-to for white v-neck undershirts? These are truly for under-shirt use, not as a t-shirt (that question will probably come next).

I had the Kirkland Supimas and they were good - but I cannot find them anymore?

The Uniqlo were great but simply weren't long enough. I'm not a long torso guy, but they were just too short.

Thanks.

Interesting, clicked on this thread by mistake, but that Outlier stuff caught my eye, because I'd earmarked it from a travel site as being a good multi use shirt for being on the road.

So nasty as it may sound, any comments on its repeated uses with odour retention etc?

There's nothing nasty about wearing wool multiple times without washing!

Re: T-shirts -- these aren't v-neck but for those looking for well-made shirts with a little more length than average Uniform is worth trying.

Just picked up a pair of AE St John double monks in dark chili on sale for$245. Super nice, but I prefer the fit of my Strands a bit better. We'll see how they break in.

Anyone have any recommendations for quality button down shirts $100-$200 range?

the brooks brothers made in the USA shirts are really good IMO (most of their stuff is made in asia nowadays and it's fine but not worth the BB price premium). THey come in several cuts so you can still get something pretty slim fitting if you're not a fatass walrus like me. I mostly go for OCBD so if you want something more europeanish I'm not sure if they'll have it in the USA-made line.

Thank you so much for the recommendation!! We truly appreciate it.

I started the brand because I was frustrated with what was on the market and the endless search for great wardrobe essentials. If you guys have any questions, I'd love to help you out. We offer 15% off your first order (with email sign up) if you'd like to give us a try.

We're terrible at poker, but we do basics well.

Big and Tall type stores. Or: Built like a Barrel store. Some Western Wear Stores have outrageous size options.

By the way, Western Style Shirts are the nuts.

Outlier slim dungarees come in 36x36 in a few colors but they don't stay in stock often due to their popularity.
