This may shock you but athletic commissions are notoriously bad at their jobs, both due to incompetence and corruption.

Hopefully we can get MM vs TJ/Cody winner now. Give MM PPV points and put him as Co-main against a big main event if you must.

I know he's a huge LW but that seems pretty unbelievable. I think he's trolling.

Re: EDF Big Drama Show COMBAT SPORTS (happy rep?) Thread

Yeah just doesn't seem possible. He probably thinks the size is an intimidation factor to Conor or something due to the Nate is a HW schtick. I dunno, but no way he went from 155 -> 200 in a couple of days.

Apparently Mark Hunt wrote an article about his speech beginning to slur and him forgetting things all the time, so the UFC pulled him from his upcoming fight.

Looks like Werdum is going to replace him. Werdum collecting the 2 easiest paychecks in MMA history lol.

Re: EDF Big Drama Show COMBAT SPORTS (happy rep?) Thread

i remember an interview with tony after one of the khabib fallouts he said he was as high as 201 lbs during camp.

i think it's very possible, though i'm guessing he's 195 or something and just rounded up. he was only 155 for a little while on friday. he was probably 170 lbs by friday night and 175 lbs for the fight.

20 lbs in 2 days is not that much considering for the last month he was on a caloric deficit and then he severely dehydrated himself on friday. the body's reaction after that is to hang on to everything it can. if he ate a bunch of salty food and carbs that will cause him to retain even more water. one gallon of water weighs 8 lbs.

Re: EDF Big Drama Show COMBAT SPORTS (happy rep?) Thread

If he's 195 lbs now and was 175 lbs in the cage, that meant he fought severely, and I mean severely dehydrated. I don't know where the 200 lb figure came from but he's not close to 200 lbs.

Re: EDF Big Drama Show COMBAT SPORTS (happy rep?) Thread

yes, most fighters probably fight severely dehydrated. but he could be "safely" dehydrated at 175 and just have too much water in him at 195.

depending on your diet, your body can hold on to much more water than it needs! what i'm saying he could be that heavy just from being bloated from 3 days of eating and relaxing after being in starvation mode for an entire month.

Could very easily be a troll and he's just holding a 20 lb bag in his hands or something.

Kevin Lee said after the fight that he was weighing 185 lb and I thought Ferguson was possibly bigger than him in the fight.

it's tough, there's no easy solution. i've been trying to think of a way to eliminate weight cuts. it's possible, they could implement something on the scope and scale of the USADA program except to test mass + hydration.

it would be very expensive and the UFC has zero incentive to spend this money. the fighters would also have a huge revolt.

i think the jury is still out on whether such a weight cut is even an advantage. i'd love to see tony at 170, maybe he'd be even more of a beast there. if people want to dehydrate and fight, let them, they're digging their own grave.

Re: EDF Big Drama Show COMBAT SPORTS (happy rep?) Thread

I mean besides HW, pretty every champ or top 5 guy in the sport is a pretty big weight cutter. Only recent exception has been Edgar. So I'd think it's pretty easy to see it's certainly beneficial.

Like Tony is apparently massive, but dude has some of the best cardio in the game, a granite chin, and insane energy levels. All of which are the main things cutting weight is supposed to negatively affect. So I don't really see any downside for him.

Re: EDF Big Drama Show COMBAT SPORTS (happy rep?) Thread

quick idea:

fighters have to weight maximum +5 pounds of limit right before getting in the cage?

if theyre over 5 they lose 50% of their purse

if theyre over 10 the fight is cancelled, loser's fight money goes to pay for the other guy who doesnt have an opponent

Re: EDF Big Drama Show COMBAT SPORTS (happy rep?) Thread

I said it in the other thread but have the winner weigh out after the fight within a certain percentage in order to collect their purse. That way it won't increase the chances of cards being canceled, which is a loss for the company, but gives a strong incentive to the fighters to cut only a reasonable amount of weight.

Re: EDF Big Drama Show COMBAT SPORTS (happy rep?) Thread

Two random weigh ins from 45 to 15 days prior to the fight. Fighters cannot weigh more than 10% of their weight class' limit or face a 50% fine. 10% rehydration limit immediately prefight.

That, plus added weight classes fix the issue. If that's too extreme, the issue doesn't need fixed. Either fix it or dont, no half measures.

Until it negatively affects the bottom line instead of merely obliterating the long term and short term health of the fighters nobody is going to do anything. It highlights the bull**** health argument around peds.

Lawler vs RDA for official for Fox Dec 16th.

Such a sick fight. Two super aggressive beats who go after it ( when lawler ain't taking rounds off )

If this doesn't end in RDA getting KO'd in the first this should be absolutely amazing.

That's basically why weight cutting was invented, no? They will still cut and dehydrate with these solutions.

They have to cut a bit regardless to hit an exact weight, and they have to be allowed to rehydrate. The point is they want to be as big as possible in the cage so thatbis why they cut so much. If you weight them either at fight time or after the fight then there is no incentive to cut a ton of weight because they would have to fight at the lower weight also. At that point they would still be small plus be dehydrated.
