He doesn't have one punch KO power but he's one of the hardest hitters below 170? :S

He haven't KO-d someone inside UFC with 1 punch so far (if you don't count Jose Aldo) but obviously hes more than capable of doing it.

the last 3 knuckles idea is from jack dempsey's book(s?) apparently

I noticed my pinkies were hurting a good amount so I started reading about the knuckles stuff and realized I should focus more on which part I punch with
10-19-2017 , 03:24 AM
poirier was also a one punch ko

Yeah, but Dempsey also fought in the 1910s-1920s and we've made some strides since then...

Being new, you probably aren't generating a ton of pop, but man, how you avoided breaking your hand is beyond me.

Sounds like you might be exagerating, if some champs in the stone age literally tried to hit with thier pinkies as hard as they could and didnt break their hands

That's a KD and TKO

How did "Conor doesn't have one punch KO power" become "Conor can't stop anyone".

I even said Conor was a solid favorite FFS

Boxers broke their hands all the time back then (I mean, they still do today), but the outside bones of the hand are smaller and weaker than the index and middle finger bones.

you're saying poirier wouldve recovered if not for the additional punches?
10-19-2017 , 04:11 AM
Not sure if it matters in this discussion, but on Wiki, Poirier win is by TKO and Aldo win is by KO.

No, I'm saying it wasn't a one punch KO. Words have meaning.

Because that's what they were. Poirier, Mendes, and most obviously and painfully, Eddie Two Lunches just got beat into submission.

Aldo got slept.

Conor is most likely going to beat Tony they same way he's beat most of his opponents. I don't think he's likely to starch him.

i mean.. he did land more than one on aldo too if we're just being nitty

not all one punch KO's have to have the other guy unconscious

what if in boxing the downed boxer tries to get up after a massive punch but cant stabilize on a 10 count? would that count as a one punch ko? basically poirier if that was boxing

Never boxed in my life and I fractured my hand near my pinkie like a moron punching a hard part of my sofa and now the exterior bone of my hand is slightly bent because of the course I didn't go to see a doctor when my hand was swollen like Mickey mouse's one.

wow thats really sick, 4 awesome matchups

also jordan mein v erick silva and little nog v cannonier

Damn...didn't realise Little Nog was still going. I don't want to see him keep taking punches at his age, after his long career.

I wonder if there's something about poker that just turns certain people into nits in all aspects of life. I swear, this site has BY FAR the nittiest people I've ever seen in my life. Not just this thread, but every thread I visit, from politics to TV discussion. I'm part of it too sometimes.

Feel pretty confident Poirier gets up on an 8 count if you take away the 4 or so shots to the back of the head.
10-19-2017 , 02:03 PM
Not many 10 counts start with the guy falling to all fours...

(Outside of body punches).

LOL @ punching with the last 3 knuckles. My right pinky was broken pretty bad in an after school fight in HS. Boxer's fractures are not fun. I've ****ed it up a bit training years after, but nothing serious. I often didn't wear wraps.

I mean, you have 2 really big knuckles in your hand. Why would you punch with anything beyond those? Might as well close your thumb in your fist for that extra pop!
10-19-2017 , 06:18 PM
youre making DEMPSEY roll around in his grave with that heresy

if you want to checkout the progression of a total beginner who never punched anyone in his life:

dont be too harsh...

setting friendly bets with friends whos also never boxed that we should get in a ring in ~*6 months with a prize for the winners

only tips I got so far was from googling how to throw punches .

There's a local boxing gym in walking distance I might go to soon with actual trainers and ****. Having the bag move around like that is annoying as ****, are they all fixed to the ground usually?

(those videos are in a non-boxing gym that I go at cause its 24/7 and I get the room with the bag alone at like midnight ).

First day I almost broke both pinkies and my right wrist. Tried to focus more on hitting at the correct spot on the glove this time around. Wrist still hurts a bit but looks okay.

Getting the real hand wraps tomorrow in the mail. Might help fix some stuff.

on the gel wraps thing. always made my skin betweeen knuckles go beat red and dotted. they were toight too, dunno why they did that.

now i just use boxing gloves straight up with no wraps, or no gloves/wraps at all, im not throwing super hard tho more volume for exercise. but i still throw at about 80%, no skin issues or pain ever.

in fact i feel like when i throw straights / hooks they land correctly on the two knuckles with no gloves on, with the gloves the technique feels more improper. also i like using gloves for awhile then taking them off to punch and you feel like you have the fastest hands ever, its funn.y

alright cool seems like a recurring gel wraps thing then. Probably not as tight as normal wraps and it moves more and makes u bleed inside

Good stuff kirbs. Def go to the boxing gym. Most places are way nicer to noobs than you'd expect
