A little unusual, but boxing's schedule is much stronger than MMA's for the next two months. Saturday's Super Flyweight extravaganza,
GGG-Canelo, WBSS and a bunch of other good fights like Linares-Campbell, Parker-Fury and possibly Joshua-Pulev on Oct 28. MMA is a little lean until the excellent UFC 217.

I like quite a few fights on 215 and Ferguson-Lee could be awesome, but yeah will not be big sellers.
09-03-2017 , 06:33 PM
GGG/canelo won't do over 200k buys
09-03-2017 , 07:46 PM
Yes it will.
09-03-2017 , 08:00 PM
Canelo-Chavez Jr did 1mm buys. Canelo-GGG is maybe, maybe less of a draw for Mexican-Americans*, but a much much bigger draw for everyone else.

BTW, the numbers for Canelo-Chavez Jr were incredible considering it was a catchweight mismatch between two guys who don't speak English!

*Anyone here know enough to chime in? For all I know Canelo-JCCJr caught the Mexican-American zeitgest and there's much less interest in Canelo-GGG (who has previously put up Mighty Mouse PPV numbers).

oh so it's "boxing/fighting" now huh?

Could be a hangover from May Mac. Even though people were satisfied I don't think it made too many new boxing fans. I think this will be a good gauge of boxing's overall health. I'm not as optimistic as PG girl, but we'll see.

PG,

I'm kinda embarrassed that I bought Mayweather-McGregor but might not buy GGG-Canelo.

At least we've clarified boxing isn't fighting...

Three of the last three or four fights were knockouts irrc and it was still very boring.
09-04-2017 , 12:34 PM
The only thing more boring than boxing is listening to people talking about boxing

These threads used to be about mma, I miss that
09-04-2017 , 12:35 PM
I can meet in the middle though, kickboxing is pretty cool

I've been to several live events, and it's pretty unreal the sounds of people getting struck. So much power
09-04-2017 , 01:18 PM
speaking of mma, i just started getting caught up on the event a cpl nights ago and holy ****, mairbek taisumov is a beast. that was an incredible KO

Rep,

FYI you are allowed (and encouraged!) to express more than one thought per post.

sometimes i have a second thought after i press the send/submit button, and its easier to just type it in the open box for a new post than to press the edit button and then move the cursor or amend a sentence to join the thoughts together, especially when i'm on my phone

Canelo is boxing' s biggest draw. This will do between 1-1.5M buys
09-04-2017 , 03:58 PM
jesus christ, bahadurzada vs wilkinson had to be one of the latest stoppages ive seen in a long ****ing time

I'm not sure what this means. I said it will definitely do more than 200k - do you disagree? I think it will do 600k-1.5mm buys, most likely in the middle of that range.

That is embarrassing but I presume you had a bunch of friends round for Mayweather-McGregor and would struggle to get such a crowd for GGG-Canelo? If you genuinely were more interested in the former than the latter then yeah that's pretty embarrassing.

Diablo - does San Francisco have a large Mexican born population? Watching the fight in a pub where most people speak Spanish as their first language (and maybe they ordered the Spanish language PPV which is a thing) would be very very fun. It's Mexican independence day too which is a bigger deal to Mexican than Cinco.

Sadly, I'm quite positive you're in the majority, minus the embarrassment.
Serious question ElD: Why not? Does the matchup not appeal to you at all?

Cannot wait for the 16th....

I'm working that night so I plan on bringing in the laptop and using the phone as a hot spot.

Whatever it takes.

Definitely the vast majority of casual boxing fans i knew were calling MayMac a sideshow while touting GGG/Canelo as the real biggest fight this year. I would guess 100% of them bought/watched MayMac, and are on the fence about paying for the GGG PPV....

Rich,

It's the most interesting/relevant/significant boxing matchup in a long time, and one I thought wouldn't happen for a while longer.

However, while M-M was a farce, it was a spectacle that was going to be discussed and analyzed on this forum, on espn, with friends, etc during and immediately after the fight. I wanted to be part of that.

GGG-Canelo will get a little discussion there, a segment on espn, nothing in mainstream news, nothing from people who aren't boxing fans. So I just don't feel nearly as compelled to buy the fight vs just watching highlights right after and the rebroadcast on showtime (edit: oops, hbo apparently, thx pg) the week after. Actually, that might end up making my mind up - whether or not they're showing it on cable the weekend after.

We'll see, good chance I still end up deciding to get it.

Diablo - HBO always rebroadcast PPVs the next week. They're doing so before Jorge Linares v. Campbell, a very decent 135 scrap.
