^ Had a quick look at these and they seem really interesting. Will definitely watch them when I have some spare time.

Some more good art ones are The Private Life of a Masterpiece series by the BBC.

The list of pieces they go into detail on is here.

Watching them certainly gave me much greater insight as to why certain bits of art are seen as important masterpieces.

I think most of the episodes can be found on Youtube. This is one on Goya's The Third of May 1808.

Just watched "Shut Up Little Man", as someone trying to get past 15 years of alcoholism it was very moving. The window into Peter & Raymond's lives strengthens my resolve to be done with that lifestyle, I found the attempts to make movies and plays based upon the recordings a bit bizarre and it's no wonder they failed, no substitute for the real McCoy.

Bob And The Monster

The life story of Bob Forrest, lead singer of the punk band Thelonius Monster, and recovering heroin addict. To me, I had only known him as the old dude in the floppy hat from Celebrity Rehab on VH1. Cool story imo.

Statin Nation

Statins are one of the most widely prescribed drugs in the world, despite the science showing they do almost nothing, especially for people who have not yet had a cardiac event or have been diagnosed with heart disease. There's also severe side effects of muscle pain and memory loss that are very common. The use of statins is all based on the false assumption that cholesterol is evil, when in fact it's one of the most important nutrients in the human body. Lowering cholesterol through statins also cuts off the supply of other important nutrients such as CoQ10.

Overall this was not nearly as informative as some of the better books about cholesterol, but it was a reasonably well made doc.

Battle Company Korengal

Basically the same as Restrepo. I had trouble wrapping my head around how these guys find it so exhilarating to get shot at and it's all they look forward to. The rest of their time is spent doing nothing and going bat**** insane sitting around the base.

Running From Crazy

In which Mariel Hemingway (grand-daughter of Ernest) talks about how ****ed up her family is. Alcoholism, mental illness, suicides, sexual abuse, etc.

Oxyana

omg this is the most depressing thing I've ever seen. I've been listening to Dr. Drew say on his podcasts that almost no one dies from illegal drugs anymore, addicts all die from prescription pills now. I never really believed it until I saw this.

9/10

Farmageddon

Farmers telling stories about getting raided by armed federal agents because they were selling raw milk. It's basically a doc about how small farmers are getting ****ed up the ass by the US government.

Tear jerker depressing or sick to your stomach depressing? I'm thinking of watching it, but would prefer the latter.

more of a tear jerker, but it's not as if the filmmakers were trying to be emotionally manipulative. It's depressing because it's so real.

I caught this while flipping channels in a hotel room a couple of days ago: The Day Israel Attacked America

A pretty amazing incident, that I think very few Americans actually know about.

just watched Oxycana. it is definitely a somber existence these poor people live in and the reality is that Oceana is just one of hundreds of rural areas just like it. ironically, that is quite the sobering thought.

Trailer just released for a documentary I recorded some VO for. By that I mean I recorded Edward James Olmos doing the VO, not me actually doing the VO.

Capturing the Friedmans. (2003)
Rather fascinating documentary told substantially through home videos of the Friedman family, of which the father & son were arrested for sexual molestation charges. Surprisingly ambiguous, it leaves the viewer to decide.

The Corporation (2003)
Corporations have the same rights as people in the 21st century. The documentarians decide to give them the hare psychopathy checklist to see how similar they are. At 2.30 hours it's a bit butt numbing and could have been leaner but still quite decent.

The Last Nazis (2009), three parts.
Another compelling series of documentaries in which the last remaining caught nazi war criminals are interviewed, when well into their 90s.

No No: A Dockumentary - About Dock Ellis, the guy who pitched a no hitter on acid. Not bad, interesting to see the level of drug use in baseball during the 70's

Drug Lord: The legend of Shorty - Worth a watch for sure. I like anything to do with drugs and gangsters so I probably rate it a little higher. Just too bad they didn't get more into their conspiracy theories about how the cartels, mexican govt and us govt are all working together.

Electric Boogaloo: The Wild, Untold Story of Cannon Films - A fun one for sure but I think a little too long. Bonus points for lots of boobies!
