On a transatlantic flight the other day I watched The Most Unknown and thought it was awesome. It was about real science, not some gimmick BS.

Won't You Be My Neighbor? was absolutely fantastic. What a human being he was. This struck all the right chords for me and I immediately watched it again. Highly recommended.

Saw Free Solo last night about Alex Honnold climbing El Capitan in Yosemite without ropes. Really enjoyable movie with lots of funny bits with Honnold to go with the crazy 'sweaty palm' shots.

Saw it with my parents, who also really liked it even though it's not at all their kind of thing.

Another climbing doc, The Dawn Wall is available to rent on Youtube and Amazon. It's about Tommy Caldwell and Kevin Jorgeson's free climb of El Capitan's Dawn Wall. Goes into some background on Tommy and why he took on the impossible project. It doesn't quite have the "sweaty palms" shots like Free Solo (mostly due to them using ropes) but it's still very well done.

Too funny, I also saw this with my parents and they liked it. I really liked and had seen Alex Honold speak at showing of another climbing movie called "Valley Uprising".

I recommend Valley Uprising if you liked Free Solo

Doc. team embeds with Sea-Watch, an org. that patrols the Mediterranean off the coast of Libya to rescue people risking their lives to escape the brutal slave trade there.

The Dawn Wall - follows Tommy Caldwell's dream to climb the dawn wall, an insanely difficult route in Yosemite. It goes a lot into his very interesting past, and how he became one of the very best big wall climbers.

Really enjoyable if you like climbing stuff. A lot less edge of your seat/impressive to the layman than Honolds film, even though the actual climb was technically way way harder.

Jaw-dropping. After 'Dear Zachary', probably the most ****ed up documentary i have seen.

Spoiler:
I can't believe how horrible those parents are. Both of them having sexual relations with their kids rapist. Not calling the police. Signing an affidavit. The list goes on.

Can't wait for Free Solo as well. I watched The Dawn Wall and Valley Uprising this week. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has zero interest in ever doing any actual rock climbing (or at least not free soloing) but I love climbing docs.

Bleed Out

A guy documents his legal battle against the hospital that botched his motther's hip replacement surgery. Worth watching if you're in the mood for getting riled up about USA#1 health care system.

3/5

Love, Gilda

Biography of Gilda Radner. I'd seen a lot of her SNL stuff, but I had no idea she married G.E Smith, or Willy Wonka.

4/5

Kusama Infinity

Biography of artist Yayoi Kusama. It was interesting to see how other artists of her time straight ripped off her ideas. Warhol confirmed douche.

I was never into climbing but followed suggestions from people ITT and watched meru -> valley uprising -> dawn wall, in this order. now I can't wait for free solo. if you haven't yet, check out meru. it has jimmy chin (guy that produced free solo) in it and iirc it's on netflix.

Just finished this based on this thread. Yep, insane is about right. Not worth even trying to put into words, just watch it.

Yeah, I watched it without looking up what it's about, as was recommended above. Definitely insane, but I'm not sure I believe all of it. Just seems a bit too bizarre to me. Granted I haven't done any research on it, and I was entertained watching it, so who really cares whether it's 100% accurate or not, but...

Spoiler:
When the father told the story about him jerking of "B" in the car I couldn't stop laughing and whipped out my phone to just do a quick google if I was watching a mockumentary instead of a documentary.

Meh, maybe the truth is really stranger than fiction sometimes and he did indeed wank his neighbor off in his car and then let him sleep in his daughter's bed four times a week for months on end. What do I know?

Has anyone seen Fyre and/or Fyre Fraud? These were two docs about the same topic, released 4 days apart from eachother. Both have good reviews on imdb. Just wondering which is better, or if it's worth watching both.

Yes I saw Meru a few months ago, excellent.

I'd say my fav out meru/dawn wall/valley uprising has been dawn wall. It had such a Rocky feel to it with that dude busting his finger and then coming back strong.

Dawn wall was the best climbing movie ever made until Free Solo came out a few months later and crushed it.

Fun fact: Caldwell and Honnold broke the record for fastest ascent in el capitan's nose part. It's like a marvel crossover!
