Went to COI in Calgary and tried out the freedom, embody, aeron and a couple other HM chairs (not so good). The lady I spoke to was a herman miller dealer so she was obv trying to pimp her products on me. I'm not sure if she intentionally showed me bad Freedom or not but I found the chair to be pretty junky for the price. Maybe it's good if you spend the extra 1k on upgrades but idk.

The Embody was awesome and so was the Aeron but when it cam down to the best chair for online poker the Embody was a clear winner. The armrests are flat and wide and the perfect length if you have your arm stretched out over a mousepad. I like how the back 'molds' to your body and the recline options for stiffness and position were really great.

Now I just have to find someone in Vancouver who can deliver it within a few days. Fwiw the price was ~1200 CAD.

I'm not sure I can bring myself to spend more than Cdn$500 on an office chair.

Just wondering what y'all think of these options from Costco (Costco.ca since I'm in Canada). I have been considering the second one (Astral).

Problem is, cannot sample either one--although they have a good return policy.

Otherwise, the Ikea chair may be worth trying at the store.

I think it's a personal choice. Best advice is to try them all and see which one suits you; none of these chairs are cheap, so approach it as you would buying a car ("test drive" them).

Make sure that the chairs are properly adjusted before you judge them though.

That said, having tried the Aerons, Embody's, Freedoms, and many others, my first choice would be the Embody, second the Aeron.

All of these chairs come with 10 year+ warranties, and I think will be a very worthy investment for anyone who spends any reasonable amount of time seated.

Ive spent most of my adult working life sitting in high end offices, visiting company site(s) etc.

The only time in those 12 to 13 years that I actually had to get up off the chair and go round to the back of it, "to find out just what chair it was" due to its amazingly confortableness, was when I sat in the Humanscale chair.

Im about 90% sure its the Freedom, I dont believe their range is that wide so yeah thats the one.

That does not necessarly mean I would buy that chair because I would have to factor in the location and how it matches to any desk in use, for instance the desk may require a height adjustable chair, it depends but normally a chair is a chair for a desk..

My contrubution to the thread behond +1 to the human scale which I dont know if it ha been mentioned yet but, you have to get one of these.

It will protect your carpet, and give a professional finsh to your home working enviroment, well worth $20/$30.

They also seem to do wooden versions, this is bamboo.

Darker version, it maybe oak.

I picked up the Embody a few week ago, was $1396 CAD for it. Amazing chair, best out of all the ones I've ever tried.

I was just at FRYS this weekend and was looking at there chairs, my lower back is all messed up and I need a comfortable chair, I have a good microfiber now but it has no lower back support. Anyway there is this real ugly chair, it is called a big mans chair, it was like only $180 so I sat in it, it was the most comfortable chair I sat in for less then $800. The only problem was the only colors they have it in is a orangish brown with a baby sht brown frame, that is the deal with the price, it is discontinued. so I have to order one online and they cost 225 plus shipping
this is the one I will need to order, if you are a big guy this chair is great

One thing about floor protectors. If you get the kind with the little nubs on the bottom, the mat will not move at all but it will leave little marks in your carpet. I have a totally smooth floor protector from ikea (~$17 IIRC) and it moves around, but only a bit. I usually adjust it once a week or so.

$40 OFF
Astral
High-back Ergonomic Chair with...
$354.99

I bought this chair and it turned out to be busto. After 1.5 hours of assembly, I sit in it only to find that the tilt function doesn't work. Back to Costco it goes...

What next? I think the Ikea perhaps. Seems to be reviewed well here...

Quick update: After my Costco chair was busto, I sampled the Aeron and Embody today. They were nice, but I expected the Embody to be like heaven in a chair after all the touting here and the ridiculous development costs somebody noted above. It was nice, but not worth $1250 Cdn for moi. The deal killer for both for me was price and also the fact that neither comes with headrest.

The perfect solution: The IKEA MARKUS. I sampled it, loved it, and bought it. It was simple to assemble, in classic Ikea no word instructions. Fits my body quite nicely, even the non-adjustable armrests. The price $250 Cdn and headrest make it perfect and I recommend it.

Cheers,
FF

Yeah if you use/want a headrest, these are not the chairs for you.

I think you can't expect any chair to really blow you away when you first sit down -- the real comfort from chairs like the Embody comes after you've sat in them for hours... and stand up feeling good.

this isnt a deskchair but didnt want to make a new thread for reclining chairs.

does anyone one have the Human Touch Manual Perfect Chair? looks incredibly comfortable for getting on the laptop and grinding. the way the leg rest is on it makes it look way more comfortable for sitting w/ a laptop in my lap than normal reclining chairs where my i basically have to sit upright w/ my legs stretched straight out.

if anyone has it lmk what u think of it plz.

I just got back from home office solutions and let me know what you guys think of this quote.

-The Embody Chair
-Arm Rests
-Balance Fabric
-Polished Aluminum Base

$1648 out the door.

These are what the options look like

Is that reasonable or should I do some more price shopping??

Seems high, IMHO -- the economy is not great, there are better deals to be found and incentives from Herman Miller.

I think you should be able to find one for $1300 or so.
