right now i got the ikea chair (200$) that many of you suggest but it hurts my back too much
im looking to spend between 500-1000 on a chair because i really want something longterm. can someone suggest me the best options? i saw the most recommended and seems like there s a ton of mixed feelings

Re: The Desk Chair thread

skimmed through the first couple pages. is embody>freedom? looking for comfort/ergonomics for grinding long sessions. probably value posture and ergonomics slightly more than comfort but both are huge.

anyone have positives/negatives for the above? is the regular leap on par with them?

Re: The Desk Chair thread

So I noticed a little talk about standing desks but couldn't find an answer to the question I have.

I recently acquired a drafting table I'm using as a standing desk. However, I don't want to be forced to stand 100% of the time I'm using it. So I'd like a drafting chair with a back and armrests, or a desk chair that rises high enough to function as one. Does anyone here have any experience with that and can you recommend anything?

Re: The Desk Chair thread

how do you work on a drafting table? Aren't they like tilted?

Anyway, I don't think there are many elevated drafting chairs that have arms or even a back. Most of the standing desk advice I've seen recommends avoiding those anyway and just getting a simple stool so you keep your sitting sessions to a minimum duration.

Re: The Desk Chair thread

The drafting table is tilted, but not enough for things to slide off it. It's flat at the top, so my monitors actually fit quite nicely.

I have a stool, but I also have back problems, so I'd like something with a back to sit in from time to time.

Re: The Desk Chair thread

Has anyone had experience using an exercise ball? Generally am spending 2-3 hours each day on the PC on a regular chair.

http://www.siamtrendshop.com/store/p...202580-th.html

If anyone uses one like this would love to hear how they are - seem like it should be good for your posture however imagine sitting on one for long periods of time not being as comfy as a real desktop chair.

In case you're wondering if you can just substitute a balance ball for your chair, there is little evidence for any benefit. Studies show minimal, if any, postural improvement, and one study even showed "spinal shrinkage" from using these balls as a chair.11 The apparatus you sit on is far less important than the positions in which you teach your body to sit.
k-star also addresses the balls at 54:55 in this video:

2-3 hours a day isn't a lot. i would rig up a standing set up.

Is something like this any good or is V2 tons better? I probably should just come suck it up and spend $800-1k. Gonna go to relax the back and try some chairs tomorrow before deciding on anything (and probably look for it used to save money). Is there a good place to look for these chairs used but in quality condition? Should I just not spend money on a nice desk chair and instead spend $600 on a sit/stand desk and try to stand for as much of my playing hours as I can and then use my $150 office max chair when I'm sitting?

Re: The Desk Chair thread

what do people think of the brezza? don't see any used ones on ebay, any idea where to find one?

http://www.relaxtheback.com/ergonomi...ice-chair.html

I also ended up getting a sit/stand desk but I'm still probably going to be sitting 50-60% of the time so figure I should still invest in a decent desk chair as well.

Re: The Desk Chair thread

Bought myself an Herman Miller aeron yesterday, after making some adjustments to the settings I just played my first session in this chair.

And I'm not quite happy about it, my lower back aches big time from sitting in this chair? Anyone who has this chair has the same problem?

Is it because i'm not used to sitting that straight yet or is it just because of wrong settings?

Nobody ever listens. Aeron is overrated!

Re: The Desk Chair thread

Necroing this thread as I'm looking to get a comfortable ergonomic chair.

Has anyone tried the NeedForSeat or DXracer chairs? I've read a lot of good reviews on them, but can't help feeling the reviews are 'too good' where they've been given a free chair to review.

Re: The Desk Chair thread

I just got a Steelcase Leap at work and really like it. I noticed the place we got them from, madisonseating.com, currently has some for $300 which seems like a crazy deal:

Re: The Desk Chair thread

I realize this is desk/chair thread, but is anyone doing treadmill (walking on it)/laptop or have any recommendations around that? Really think it would be cool to do that (if it's practical, hoping somone has done this/doing this). Tried doing a search but couldn't find anything, cheers

Re: The Desk Chair thread

not related to last few posts, but i got an ikea skarsta (cheap sit/stand desk with a hand crank to adjust), and i love it. huge working area.

i also got a leap for $250 or so recently, i kinda like it, but i'm not crazy about it. wish i'd held off and picked up a $400 or so aeron. or maybe even a mirra (which i have at work).

Here's the best feature in the flexible back. It moves with you and goes right back into place.

And, as a bonus, here is my Human Touch Perfect Chair. Great to lie in whenever your back hurts. You can't sit upright in this chair comfortably. It's really meant for leaning back, and therefore can't be used with a traditional desk. It's such a big chair that if you and your girl are skinny you can both fit in it.

idk, that knoll chair doesnt have lumbar support, the seat pan isnt as good as the embody and the arms arent multi way adjustable.

you could maybe make a case for beating out a mirra, really stretching it with an aeron, but the embody blows it out of the water.

I'm just telling you how it feels to sit in all three of them. I sat in all three around the same table, and the knoll felt best to me.

Re: The Desk Chair thread

I have not. That link has a good description of my Knoll Generation. It's the chair's flexibility in moving with you that I love. And of course how it allows you to get a "truly epic bear-stretching-out-of-hibernation stretch when you recline," which is a great way to put it.
