anyone try one of those kneeling chairs? you are at a half-kneel without any back support...

they are supposed to be great for your back cause you have to learn to support it yourself

+1 for the steelcase leap, it's a sweet chair.

i have the humanscale liberty fwiw and i like it. i thought the aeron was decent/good when i tried it and i found the freedom to be overrated. i'm about 6', 170 lbs.

any recs for chairs that don't have arms? I'd like a nicer chair for my home desk, but I also sit in it while practicing guitar, thus the "no arms" requirement.

you can get the liberty without arms

Confused as to why this is addressed to me. I was just saying the headrest isn't really worth it unless you like to fall asleep in your chair. I only tried out the chairs anyway, I ended up getting an aeron, which I love.

What wasn't good about the Freedom. I have only heard good things about it although I have never sat in one. Where can I test one out in San Francisco?

hmm, the liberty looks pretty nice. looks like it's around 700 bucks at some random online places, is this the kind of thing I should buy on ebay or is it going to cost me pretty much the same whereever?

i've sat in the aeron chair a few times and wasn't wowed. i guess i like leather chairs too much.

this was on sale for $230 a few weeks ago. it was very comfy so i decided to get it. good lumbar support (though not adjustable). recline is so-so. but comfy and cushy (though need to break it in). definitely try before buying.

i found it to be stiff; i thought that its back was lacking in give. i'm not a big guy, though -- i think it's a heavier person's chair, but ymmv for sure.

i'm using an Embody at work this week on a trial from the Herman Miller rep. Its nice so far, but i don't think i have it dialed in correctly yet. I'm a big guy (6'-4" ~285ish) and it fits, but it could be slightly bigger. I still like the Aeron better.

Can I slouch in any of these chairs (Aeron, Freedom chair) or does it promote an upright sort of stiff posture? I usually sit slightly forward when playing poker (head not touching headrest), but when watching movies and stuff on the comp. would prefer sitting in a recline position

Next time I travel to a town with an Ikea I will definitely be looking for this.

I usually sit in my Aeron with my feet up on my desk. It tilts way back. I don't feel locked into any position, really.

I bought an Aeron because I could get a great deal on it and to be honest I'm not very happy with it. The adjustability is excellent though
So you just go to shop and sit in a chair for an hour? Seems weird.

Anyone else have got Embody? I've read some reviews and they're amazing, I think i'm gonna get it.

many shops will let you take a chair or two home to try out with your desk etc.

you might have to leave a cc number or a deposit or something but this is probably your best bet if you arent sure what you want.

Well I just moved and I've been very busy. Needless to say I didn't have the time or patience to do that.

I went to Ikea and found a very reasonable chair. My only complaint so far is that the tilt lock freezes the chair in that tilted position. The Aeron would lock to a maximum tilt of X degrees(The Ikea simply locks the chair at X degrees until it's unlocked)

It was $300 new which is a fraction of the price. I don't have the name anymore but it has a mesh back and padded bottom.

it does the job.

I got a liberty after doing some shopping online. You're fine as long as you don't buy from a designer retail store. You'll probably want to get it at an online store opposed to ebay because it comes with a pretty good warranty.

Has anyone gotten the Embody? It looks awesome and reviews are great but I would love to hear someone who's not a reviewer who has sat in it. I just called DWR and no store in Manhattan has the chair (wtf?) but the guy is going to call me back to confirm that they don't have any haha. Arghhh me want!

My chair broke and I don't have balla money right now. I'd just like to add that the chairs at Staples are much better than the ones at Office Max. At least by me. I got a pretty nice one for $150. Should last me until I can get something nicer. Lot's of ass cushion is my biggest requirement. The biggest problem with this one though is that the armrests doesn't quite come up to my jury-rigged mouse platform. Carpal tunnel could be coming.
