Cool. Just grabbed this off craigslist. Guy was asking $175, offered him $100 and he countered at $120 before sending another email saying he'd take the $100. Called him on the phone too see if it came apart so I could stuff it in my car and he said he'd even deliver it. SHIP IT!

Apparently he works for an office furniture company or something. Absolutely nothing wrong with the chair. All of the levers and adjustments work, fabric is mint with no flaws. Must have been a custom fabric or something but whatever. Haven't really test drove it for too long but I'm loving it.

Sorry if I missed this, but I didn't want to scroll through hundreds of responses itt...Is the Aeron model in the FTP store worth getting? Anyone have some personal reviews to share?

Does anyone have suggestions on computer desks/workstations?

I have a 12' x 3' nook that is being turned into a home office type area.

i decided the other day that i was gonna buy myself a new desk chair for xmas, boy was i unprepared for the prices and functionality of the high end chairs, wow. i did some thorough vetting in this thread and elsewhere and went to the healthy back store yesterday, sat in everything from the leap to the aeron to the embody and many more that weren't discussed heavily in here, the embody was by far and away the best chair i sat in. background info on me, i grind midstakes o8 cash games and all kinds of tournaments on the side so i spend long hours in my chair every day, i'm about 6'0 with long legs and i have chronic back pain (to the point of affecting my sleep quality) from car accidents/sports/skateboarding/etc. i like to switch positions a lot while grinding and what i'm really looking for is comfortability, maneuverability, and a proper amount of lower back support.

i'll go ahead and say that for every chair i sat in that was like a knock off or similar/competitive version to the main ones discussed in this thread, not a single one is worth mentioning other than to say it's a piece of ****.

so i'm kinda tall and i have long legs, immediately the steelcase leap was out of the question. that thing is tiny, and kinda meh overall. i liked the way the arms rotate in 45 degrees for typing, but that's probably the only thing i liked about that chair.

leap worklounge, so comfortable, but like another poster said i just can't see myself in that chair all day if i'm not a permanently reclined executive barking orders at my underlings all day long. it's just not a grind chair, and since i'm not a 10/20+ reg or binking 6 figure scores in mtts (yet, i hope), the pricetag is pretty wow. ultimately it's just not what i'm looking for anyway.

didn't sit in a freedom, i'm not looking for a dentists chair.

i sat in both the regular aeron and the aeron with the extra lumbar support and honestly i cant understand what the hype is with those. that lumbar support bar was terribly uncomfortable and the lower back support is minimal at best when you pull the seat out/forward. also it feels like it's really only designed to be sat in one way, straight up and centered, it's uncomfortable if you want to shift your weight or lean one way in the chair. i cannot for the life of me understand why somebody would pay $800-900 for one of these when the embody is infinitely better and just slightly more expensive.

so on to the embody, wow. apart from being the most functional/dynamic when it comes to seating positions and fluidity of movement/motion, it looks pretty good in person, it's pretty compact and it's really, really comfortable to sit in. keeps your back as straight as it should be but doesn't feel too rigid. amazingly, when you start to move around in the chair and try different positions, they all feel like they could be the natural way to sit in it, it's really wild. the reclining motion is easily the most fluid of any, and major bonus points for the way the actual seat (not just the back) also reclines/shifts/moves as you desire. the seat back and the seat bottom are all one piece, so if you are taller and desire/need to pull the seat out forward, it has levers that extend the length of the seat (unlike the aeron and the rest) rather than moving or shifting the whole thing forward. so no gap in the chair from ass to back, it's fully supported. all the tension is fully adjustable, the recline threshold locking system is top notch, the adjustable arms are very satisfactory, the knobs and levers aren't as confusing as i originally thought they'd be, the height of the chair is fine and due to that and not having a desire to recline 100% of the time in it, i definitely don't need/want a headrest. i have ONE complaint and it is fairly trivial- i sat in the balance fabric and honestly i don't see how it warrants a 20% price increase, the rhythm fabric is plenty soft (polyester knit is really that much better than polyester? can't see it...). so to sum it up, it's really the most amazing grind chair i've ever at in.

i'm now ordering one off of the licensed online site "officedesigns.com" for $1053 shipped (rhythm+white base+titanium finish, fully adjustable arms and both hard floor/carpet floor casters), can't decide what color i want though...

also it looks like i'm seeing a better deal on the embody at smartfurniture.com (yes they're licensed), they have no upcharge for the polished aluminum base compared to hte standard $211 upcharge for it and it really looks a lot better than the others.

-$1019 shipped with the aluminum polished base, both caster sets and the rhythm fabric. score.

FTP has the Herman Miller Highly Adjustable Aeron Chair in their black card store now. I'm almost certainly going to buy it. Can anyone find this exact chair for me online to see how much it retails for?

I've sat in a few Aerons before and loved them every time. I've been meaning to buy a really nice chair but have been too lazy. FTP having it in their store is perfect.

That just SEEMS like the high-end Aeron with all the whistles. Email them to be sure.

FTP support is always pretty useless. They responded with this:

Thank you for your query and patience.

These items do not have an exact model number. They are distinguished by the name and features. The exact name of item is given and the features are listed in the item description.

I looked this up and there's a ton of different features I'm not sure this exact chair has, such as leather arms etc. I'm thinking it's probably this one?

I searched and searched and was about to buy a 2nd hand mirra off ebay for £300 which isnt far off the brand new price but i changed my mind at the last minute and ordered the markus.
I'll treat myself to a brand new mirra next year or maybe the embody.

the cheapest place i could find a brand new mirra was http://www.aeronstore.co.uk/sub/mirra.php

I just bought this from staples.co.uk for £150:

It's called Richmond in brown. It's in black and cream aswell, but different names.

So far so good. Easy to put together, looks great and good lumbar support. Dunno if you can get it there, I know it's imported but from where I know not. It's on amazon.co.uk too.

I got one of these bad boys last year after I hurt my back. One of the best thing I ever got.

http://www.posture-chair.co.uk/other...neeling-chairs

I got the "active" rocking one on the left.

My physio said that number one cause of back pain is sitting down. Also sitting with a wallet in your back pocket is very bad.

I sit in this for at least 8 hours a day. Sometimes alot longer and never get back pain. It even helps relieve it as you sit correctly with a slight curve. It takes a few days for your shins to get used to it.

anybody ever considered a Treadmill desk?

I am considering getting this model at some point. The idea is not to run at your desk but walk at a very slow pace to the point you are basically just shuffling your feet - .5 to 1 mph. You could easily walk 4 miles a day. http://www.treadmilldeskinc.com/trea...sit2stand.html

I read about this new and relatively cheap Herman Miller in Wired a few months back and was wondering if anyone had sat in one. Hard to find any reviews on it ... http://www.dwr.com/product/manufactu...ortby=ourPicks
