I got pretty lucky and found a decent used herman miller office chair at goodwill for 3 dollars. It's not a aeron, but it's nice and comfortable.

My old $100 chair got so bad that I was in desperate need of a new chair.

I was planning on spending up to $600 but there are no stores I could find within a 30min drive that sold designer chairs. I figured I may end up buying a used Aeron or something but a few poker friends told me to avoid getting a chair without sitting in it first so I figured I'd just check and see what the Office Depot down the street from me had.

I sat in the Realspace Pro Quantum for ~15mins while reading some reviews on my phone. It felt comfy and the reviews seemed mostly good.

I decided to buy it, I think it was $280 after tax? something like that. There is a 14-day return policy so I figure it's best to use it for a few days and see if I still like it.

It looks like in 2009 there was a big recall on these because the joint between the top and bottom of the chair would snap in half (cheap bolts) but it looks like they fixed that.

I've been sitting in it now for a few hours. Still feels pretty comfortable - much better than what I was using before but I really wish I had ever sat in a top designer chair to have something to compair it to.

Arms swivel in and out, and adjust up and down.
the back of the seat can be lifted up or put down to have the lumbar thing fit you.
seat bottom moves forward and backward (away from the back) and it has lean and lock settings.

I was prepared to just return this in a day or two but I think I may keep it for now and wait a few months to buy a $1k+ chair when I'm ready and give this one to one of my poker friends.

Have any of you sat in this or have any opinions?

Honestly it looks almost exactly like an Aeron to me. Should be pretty decent, especially for that price.

It's made for OD by the same people who make the ErgoHuman (Raynor). It's comfortable for sure and I'm happy with it - I just figure it's not going to last longer than 2-3 years (I assume they use much cheaper parts) and I have no clue if an Aeron or some other chair is just blow-my-mind-away better than this or not.

Any way, I'm pretty sure I'm going to keep it for now. I found my sweet-spot in this chair for grinding and I can probably do 6+hr sessions without the chair being a problem now (any more than 3-4 used to hurt in my old chair).

Meh, moving the desk up and down is not a great solution IMO. Motors are expensive and likely to break, plus all the jostling = stuff falling off your desk. Just get a barstool.

Also, the ideal monitor position when you're sitting is not likely to be very good when your standing.

just ordered an Embody online. taking 8 weeks to get here to the UK. some sites may have been slightly quicker but i couldn't be bothered to phone all of them.

mine cost £1,080 inc VAT with everything apart from the polished aluminium base and fancy castors.

i am sooooo excited for this chair. i get back pain and my current chair is a POS. will review when it arrives + i've tried it out for a while. thanks to all the reviewers in this thread.

Looking for a new high quality chair and desk.

Is the Embody still the way to go?

Besides the price, does the Aeron have any advantage?

Did anyone need his chair serviced?

I am looking for a biggish desk in the UK, enough for 2 monitors + laptop at least. Can anybody suggest one, preferably the cheaper the better please?

I have had a look on the ikea website, but not too sure on dimensions etc.

I have the geek desk and the motor hasn't broken yet, and I keep a lot of stuff on my desk. Jostling isn't really a problem either. Had it over 2 years now.

The standard one is quite large I must say, but I rather like it... it works for me. If I were to do it again, I might consider the smaller one.

edit: It is really expensive admittedly. As well I don't really use it to stand much these days (just take breaks a bunch instead and move around) -- though I do use it to adjust the height of the desk depending on which chair I'm using and such. Quite nice for that.

Hey guys,

so a Leap chair i can get off Ebay for around 350 €, the higher price alternative would be an Embody for around 1100 €, i obviously have to find a way to test them myself, but in your opinion, is this price difference for the Embody really worth it?

Thanks

I went ahead and ordered the Humanscale Freedom chair today. The head support and adjustable arms look great. I prefer a reclined position and use that for 80% of my desk time, so hopefully it will be a good choice for me...will update with a review in a couple of weeks.
