I didn't get in at the ground floor of casino whoring, I heard stories about the insane bonuses Golden Palace were offering in the early days. I still managed to make somewhere over 15K doing it though. Good times.

yeah i remember the casino whoring stuff. didn't themetetron run a site dedicated to it attempting to be/stealing from bonuswhores.com?

i remember trying it out once with a 500 deposit or whatever and doing the autospin thing, coming back in 45 mins to see my account balance at like 2500 from hitting a couple royal flush bonuses. definately the easiest money i've ever made

great discussion going on here, this is vastly more interesting than it seems like just reading the thread title

There was a rumour he was a trader now.

Also, there was an hilarious thread in STTF about a year before that one where Lolo posted his graph of his first ~600 sng's, where of course he made a massive amount of profit, and almost everybody berated him as a running hot donk. The thread was bumped shortly after the BBV thread for people to laugh at!

2+2 Makes people register
Deposits by paypal blocked around 2004
Deposits by CC blocked-year?
Party Poker bonus on balance where they paid you to keep money in your account -year?
ProPoker offers $250 bonus on $100 deposit.... must play vs. a bunch of house players staring at your hole cards
O'Doyle basically tried to unionize online players with "O'Doyles Army"

...Points stores offer goodies...... party sends me 20 beach towels...lol

My player note on him from Party in, I guess, '03 at 1/2 6max limit simply read, "Stay away from this guy." Didn't take many hands, either

Imagine my surprise when I realized he was a 2p2 poster.

That was great. Shortlived standalone site called ProPoker opens, and instead of bothering to employ props or w/e they simply use house bots to keep games running. They denied it of course but it was patently obvious to anyone with eyes that they were running bots. Most hilariously, every table without any real players on it (which was most of them) had almost exactly the same players/flop number.

Whether the bots were superusers (i.e. could see your cards) was never established conclusively to my knowledge, but I'm pretty sure they were. I deposited a small amount to see whether I could pwn the bots, but despite their very erratic game, they always seemed to have the upper hand. I had the distinct feeling I was being cheated and after losing the deposit I never played there again. My guess is that they were honestly attempting to use the bots as props, rather than directly scamming people's money with them, simply because I don't think the money invested in putting the site together would be worth it to steal deposits off a few customers. However, their bots' play being pretty woeful, they needed to make them superusers just to avoid dumping huge amounts of house monies to the few real players on the site. It turns out that people don't like playing vs tables full of quasi-superuser computer programs, and the site folded pretty quickly.

Some stuff I remember.

Dec 13 2001- First Pokerstars tournament with a buy in; $11 limit hold em, 100 player max. I remember it because it was my birthday and I won it. My claim to online poker fame.
----------

First Online Balla Post.
Eric123 posted a copy of a $50,000 cashout from Paradise poker. 2+2 was freaking out. 20-40 had just opened recently 10-20 had been highest game.
--------
First Heads up Match that was big.
There was also a monster heads up limit hold em match around that time on UB. Eric123 vs RamCrazyHorse (vaswani). The stakes were huge and all of the internets were watching it was 25-50 limit.
--------
My Favorite Promotion.
Planet Poker software must have been licensed or something because long before Doyles Room. Doyle Brunson was fronting the Highlands Club, it used the same software as Planet. This led to what was for me the greatest promtion ever, a friend of mine e-mailed Doyle about somethign or another because at the time he posted pretty regularly on RGP. Doyle hooked us up with accounts at Highlands club, gave everyone $1000 to play. The deal was play for 90 days any game up to 10-20 limit hold em. At the end of the 90 days you could keep whatever was left above the $1000.

The 10-20 was full of players with the same deal,it was probably the greatest 10-20 limit hold em game ever spread on the internet. Played like a play money table. I won a bunch and my current bankroll is a direct decendent of that promotion.

I will post some more stuff if I can remember.

Erik123 was the earliest 'superstar' I'm aware of. Was totally dominant in short handed/heads up limit HE.

Now that Erik is 'of age' , he still doesn't seem to be playing tournaments all that much, which is kind of disappointing. More so disappointing to the fanboy-me back from 2002 who couldn't wait until he was unleashed on the casinos to crush everyone.

Yeah I was there for that, but that wasn't the ground floor. Golden Palace used to offer bonuses of thousands of dollars with very favourable wagering requirements.

Some of the things that I can remember.

pokerroom.com use to be on of the bigger sites. This is pre-pokerstars. They also might of been the first site to intruduce SNG's. They were for play money for ever though.

2000-2(?)Paradise intruducted SNG's. I remember they didn't start accepting people registrations until 12 noon I don't remember what time they were shut down at night. 20/40 Limit was the biggest game spread at the time. NL table were not intruduced until a couple of years later. Deposit were still accepted via credit cards and pay pal. Most people were still using dial up and timeouts happened way too often.

Anyone remember the date that Pay Pal stopped the funding poker sites?

2005? Pokerstars intruducted the 180 player SNG's at the 20+2 level.

What year was micro limits intoducted on Stars and the other big sites?

Time to get some sleep.

Can someone go over the recent NL superstars and where they are now? Aba, durr, honestly I dont know the rest as I never followed them often. I remember a bunch of posts about benyamine being broke...whats he up to?

The latest I remember reading about was right after aba played Sammy Farha a few times in Vegas (with a few other players joining in quickly I think).
