I passes on that at $43 here but I would drink the **** out of that and love it also. Pastry stouts 4 life.

I'll almost never buy an expensive beer with coconut in it because so many breweries **** it up.

I've not had any of the maple bourbon-barreled biscotti beers though I've wanted to, nor have I had any of the original bourbon barreled beers. There's not many beers I'd buy at a price point of $40. One of the maple ones was one shelves here a few months back but at $30+ I just passed it over.

I'm on holiday in SF and want to bring some good bang for buck beers home, preferably in cans because of weight. I prefer beers like saison, sour, gose, (ne)ipa over things like stouts or barrel-aged stuff.

What are your favourites, and maybe also suggestions where to buy?

I'm only really into IPAs and NEIPAs, but for these my favorite brewery in Northern California is currently Alvarado St. You can pick up cans to go at Crafty Fox, Liquid Gold, or City Beer Store. Also, all of these places have a very well curated selection, so if you can't find Alvarado St there, I'm comfortable recommending the other stuff they have.

Speaking of City Beer Store, I was at their new location over the weekend and it's super nice. They've gone up from the 8-10 taps they had before to 30 and it's wayyyyy more spacious than their cramped old location. Definitely check it out, xukxuk.

I loved it. I'm part of the problem.
Sick brag: I went to the new beer store by me and saw this on the shelf. Didn't even consider buying it. Such self-control. Much restraint.

I’m headed to Montreal at the end of the month for work. I’ve got 1 night free there. Any recommendations?

I've been impressed with everything I've had from Alvarado St. so far.

A friend and I faced the Coconut version and the Cinnamon Churro version last night and both were delicious. I'd say the coconut won. I don't know if they were worth the price, but I felt mostly great about it, except for the likely diabetes I woke up with the next day.

Thanks for the advice, went with this selection at City Beer Store.

(Also saw the biscotti etc can posted above, and thought about buying it for the hell of it, but by the time I had circled back to its spot on the shelf it was gone!)

Nice haul! Let us know how you like them. I'm gonna try to find some Minesweeper tonight-- maybe I'll go to CBS too.

Don't really seek out ipa from the west coast too often (not that they're bad) but a buddy just gave me my first Great Notion and its fantastic. Hazy but manages to have a very unique taste

Watched the Dolphins game today with a couple fins fans and drank some good beers. These were the best of the lot.

Ggggreen from this weekend. Amazing IPA but at this point I can’t really distinguish it from other the other Green variants. I know I’m spoiled from all the TH so readily available around here now.

2017 Summation. Just a ridiculous vanilla bomb. 13.8%. No heat. I questioned whether they threw straight vanilla extra in this.

Tilquin Pinot Noir 2018. Perfect lambic at 8.2%. This was one of the last beers we had so can’t really give any descriptive notes.

I had Green and Very Green about a month ago and I don't think I'd have been able to tell the difference in a blind taste test. I think that says more about Green than it does about Very Green, probably.

I had FO and had a similar reaction. I thought it almost tasted artificial it was so vanilla. I'd heard/hoped that Summation was more balanced with the coffee. I'd like to try Ground State and Jam the Radar but my not-great experience with FO has left me a bit cautious.

Oh, speaking of that, I decided a month or two back to occasionally buy beer off of mybeercollectibles. I used to do more trading before reddit shut that down, and in some respects I enjoy this more. Those Sunday evenings packing beer in the basement were pretty awful.

Can anyone tell me what the production difference is between some of these tree house variants?

I assume it means one thing when they repeat the first letter a bunch of times (Aaalter ego, Gggreen, Jjjulius, King Jjjulius, Ssssap, Bbbright, probably others) and a different thing when they add a word (Very Green, Very Hazy, Super Sap, King J) or sometimes they do both (King Jjjulius). Does one mean double dry hopped and another extra kettle hops? Or do they involve some change to the malt bill? I honestly have no idea (plus I've only probably tried about half of these variants). Just trying to figure out what exactly it is that I'm drinking on some of these.

Extra letters means extra hopping. According to them it's not just extra dry hopped but extra kettle as well. Generally same abv tho. So JJJulius is still a 6.8% IPA, just with more hopping.

King Julius, Doppel, Very Green, Very Hazy, etc are imperial versions of the staple beer.

There's also been at least King JJJulius and Doubleganger, which are extra hopped versions of the imperial variant.

Fwiw aaaaalter is prob the worst tree house beer I've had.

Bruery released their third Hoarders Small Batch Box of the year, maybe the five other beers are good, I'm sure they will be, but I only needed to read one description before purchasing:

Quote:
Black Tuesday® Grand Reserve
Our exceptional triple barrel-aged version of our imperial stout was consecutively racked into three sets of special bourbon barrels. After three years in the making, this smooth, decadent stout is finally ready to be unveiled.

I really like Black Tuesday and if I could get their beer without paying an arm and a leg for shipping I probably would still be a society member, but man you need at least 4 people to take down a bottle of Black Tuesday or its variants.
