Opened this non-Belgian up next. First few sips are delicious but it's sickeningly sweet. I'll be stunned if I drink half the bottle.

What’s considered the max age for a high proof BA bottle?

I did not drink half the bottle. Re-opened it tonight.
  • Still delicious in first few sips.
  • Still sickeningly sweet.
  • Carbonation doesn't really matter for this beer, it's effectively drinking syrup.
  • Opening up a 15% beer on a Sunday afternoon is really stupid if you value family relations.

Ultimately, this is a great beer to share among 4-6 people. Gives you that first super-sweet delicious hit to your tastebuds without the dread of actually finishing more.

Gonna go make some eggs for the kids since I didn't plan dinner.

Others can answer better than me (ChicagoRy?), but 5 years on a big stout if stored properly is definitely fine.

Edit: @DaNit - won't let me quote for some reason

Cool that’s my assumption as well.

Stout fans,

Goddammit, grabbing something at a random little corner store yesterday, snapped a pic of the KBS because I thought it was funny they have it. Didn’t even notice the bottle next to it!

Wonder how much they’re charging for it... Guess I gotta go back and find out.

That Firestone XXI is also worth trying if you've never had it.

There wasn't a bad ipa in the bunch and most were really really good to outstanding. I really liked their triple cry cry and Focus I think was the other one I really liked. Continuous (pictured in pint) is such a solid staple beer. Absolutely love that place

It was something like $18 for the FW (reasonable I guess), $28 for the kbs 4-pack (high but not crazy), and $32 for the coffee bcbs (f that). Didn’t get anything.

Next to it was get off my lawn DIPA, it was fine. Hops/beer flavor kinda lacking, a little too citrus forward for my preference, but not bad.

PBJS was underwhelming. Definite peanut butter flavor, but overall lacking in richness and flavor. Zero berry flavor. Just like a kinda weak stout, wasn’t into it at all.

As promised, pics from Yazoo's Funk Fest last weekend. Most pours were 2-4oz, but even so it was a ****load. They put out bottles of tums at a few of the pouring stations. There were also definitely a couple I didn't get a picture of, and as I predicted I cannot now remember what they were.

There were also a handful of clean beers there as kind of palate breaks, mostly just straight pilsners. Pfriem's pilsner was really good and towards the end I just started hanging out with pints of pils unless I saw something really special get broken out, like the Fou Foune.

Aside from the obvious standouts - I had like 3 pours of Fou Foune, it was later in the day and most people didn't seem to notice it had come out so there was plenty to go around - I think my favorite of the day was the Bow and Arrow stuff. I hadn't ever heard of them before, and they had a Flander's Red, a brett saison, and a Belgian dark strong or maybe quad. The saison was good, classic kind of brett-y saison, but not outstanding. The Flander's was really good, tons of dark red fruits, a little vinious, just the right hit of acetic acid. I didn't get to try the quad but a couple people told me it was the best beer from them they tried. Very impressed with them being pretty new but already doing good stuff.

For food they had a BBQ food truck and a cheese shop brought a bunch of different cheeses. Oh, and there was a hot dog cart inside with giant Boar's Head sausages. The food truck set up a DIY nachos table and then a couple hours into the festival brought out a whole hog the had smoked. Beer mac n cheese, fried pickled okra, coleslaw for sides, and the pitmaster picked meat off the hog for you when you got to the end of the line.

The cheese was all pretty good, lots of variety tending towards the funkier/bold. There was one softer, more spreadable cheese I was looking forward to trying, and the guy in front of me in line spilled his beer right into the container as he was trying to spread some on a pita chip. Bastard. All food gratis, as were beer pours, no money needed other than getting there and back.

Had these two Beers yesterday, on draft at a German restaurant hidden within an obscure town near an ocean.

Beer is exactly what is stated on the glass. Good frothy head with a pleasant sweetish aroma. Taste is somewhat sweet without being overbearing, hints of chocolate and slightly malty, and some caramel(? ). Very smooth and I enjoyed this Double Brock Beer though generally not a big fan of this style of brew.

Lindemans Framboise Raspberry Ale.

This Ale had a darkish red color, slightly cloudy, with a very pleasant aroma. Taste had some tartness to it that is very refreshing yet goes down well and easy accompanied by an enjoyable and bright aftertaste. Not an everyday beer for me but I thoroughly enjoyed drinking it.

Yesterday's IPA haul from K&L:

Toppling Goliath MoZee. Really liked it, a very complex flavor profile while still being relatively refreshing. I can see why this brewery has gotten hyped so much. Will definitely go back for more.

Also got Smog City Amarilla Gorilla and Lord Hobo Boom Sauce. Haven't tried either yet. Think I'm way more excited for the Smog City, simply because I've drank so many NEIPAs the last 6 months that I need a break from them.

Finally, stopped by Track 7 brewery after busting the Stones quantum tournament today. Both the IPAs and the dark beers were average at best, won't go back. Anyone have any breweries in Sacramento they'd recommend? Neither track 7 nor New Glory has impressed me at all.

Picked these up 4 for $36 here. Underwhelmed. The coffee was my favorite, but not amazing or anything. Chili the least favorite. Overall the flavors weren’t very distinct. Chili is the only one I could for sure pick out blind. Definitely prefer constructed bomb!

cit,
I also passed.

Are you supposed to blend them... ? Seems like it may make for a better experience, and something unique-ish to do with beer other than just say "dank" or "too sweet", I guess.

Speaking of blending, it's probably long gone but boon's vat series 4-pack box was fun for this reason - great to taste alone and also blend, similar concept but personally way more appealing than "here's an adjunct! here's another adjunct!!!" I guess. You can also pick up the individual vat series bottles individually to do the same thing, but the box set was cool in that 1- it was distributed here (US) and 2- it had a cool guide with good descriptions of the beer and process.

Bought this off tavour. Guess I should just pour all of them in a pitcher and not drink them separate?

Fremont had a really great event this year where they poured you four beers that went into a blend they did and you got to drink them separate and blend them how you wanted and then try and blend it yourself. Later you could drink it on tap how it really came out. Probably the best beer event I've been to.

Hazy ipa fans,

Offshoot beer relax

****ing great. Loved this beer. Great citrus, great hops, great balance. Super easy drinking. Had another pint right after this one. A+.

Some IPAs at black hammer, a brewery in my neighborhood.

Cloud chambers and twin galaxies pretty tasty.
