Yeah solid stuff but I don’t think they are distributing to retailers. I’ve had B-52 hazy at WF and my favorite beer bar Moon Tower. At some point I’ll make the trip up there.

Some recent beers

PB & Thursday, 2018 edition: Black Tuesday with peanut flour. It's pretty damn nice - I think peanut is one of those flavors (see also: coconut) where it's hard to get right for a wide variety of people due to varying sensitivities, but I get the peanut as a nice subtle layer on top of an already great beer.

Yount: A beer that defies categories, this is Black Tuesday aged in French oak with Cabernet Sauvignon grape must from Napa (Yountville, specifically, hence the name). It is not carbonated and is corked in a wine bottle, and as you can tell there is so much grape in here that it looks more like a wine than an imperial stout.

This was my 3rd time having it I think, and each time I like it more than the last. It is deeply rich and complex, and being a few weeks removed from when this photo was taken that's about as good as I can do right now. It brings up a lot of weird questions, like, "is this an absurdly good $40 bottle of beer or an average $40 bottle of wine?" that I think only philosoraptor can answer. I can tell you that my gf and I opened a bottle of wine after finishing this and it tasted like fruit juice in comparison, which I chalk up as a point for Yount.

Lastly, my Hoarders Small Batch Box just got delivered today - they made two 375ml bottles each of 6 different small batch beers made just for this collection. For my first, I selected Raspberry Kisses, a barrel-aged wheatwine with raspberries, vanilla, and macadamia nuts. I suspect this is basically a barrel or two of White Chocolate Chunk with raspberries added in - and while it's hard to pick out the other individual flavors, the raspberries are front and center here with a big, dry fruitiness (with some slight puckering) added to a rich, sweet base. Pretty good.

The other small batch beers are...
Black Tuesday w/ vanilla beans
Sangria Tuesday: BT aged in red wine barrels with cranberries, apples, oranges
Black & Blue & Red All Over with Vanilla: Blue BBLs (a blend of 30% Tart of Darkness, 70% Black Tuesday, with blueberries) plus blackberries plus tart cherries plus vanilla
Room for Little: barrel-aged sour blonde with peaches and nectarines
Cherum Stomp: tart wheat beer aged in a wine barrel with cherums and lemon zest

goofy,

Super interesting stuff! So the hoarders small batch is 2 bottles each of 6 super limited beers, and they produce 500 boxes total? That's pretty cool. As a lol midwesterner I've only had normal BT so I'm jealous of the zillion variants you've got. But my bank account is happy I don't have access to all this Bruery stuff.

Goofy those beers look fantastic. Big fan peanuts in BA stout. The young looks really intriguing, I’ve had some BA beers from various wine barrels that I really like but nothing like that.

Goofy,

How much do you spend on bruery beer per year now?

Went to Row 34 last night, great spot. Had two beers, oysters, and a lobster roll, and everything was pretty good. Thanks for the great recommendation!

Cat's meow IPA

Hazy, looks like a glass of orange juice with foam on top. Lots of tropical flavors on the nose. Silky texture, lots of passion fruit, some malt and citrus flavors, mild bitterness. I really like how easy it is to drink and the tropical flavor profile.

Trillium's vicinity double IPA (pictured)

Also lots of tropical fruits on the nose, and citrus. A mild gose-like note. Taste is kind of sour and more pilsner like. At first I wasn't crazy about it, but it grew on me. Maybe it was the oysters and the lobster roll.

I'd guess 2k-3k but generally prefer to live in ignorance.

This looks like a potentially fun or funny event:
Beer Temple event

Beer Temple in Chicago is going to make basically a candy bar and have some high quality base stouts for people to pastry-ize

For slightly more serious folks, there's also this coming up:
Goose Island event, which includes sampling un-aged bourbon county stout, and the double barrel brandy barrel BCS. Oh, and also a talk about GI's aging program.

I’ve gotta go to Chicago Saturday with the lady to get her wedding dress altered. Plan on stopping at a brewery for a beer and lunch. Suggestions?

Check out forbidden root as an option. The food is actually good. Their beers are good and interesting, and they have decent guest beers. And it's a nice comfortable restaurant.

For that NE trip we're taking soon, we'll be in Portland ME 5/17-18 and Bissell just released their release schedule. Missing their 2nd best beer by 1 day, FML.

Calusa is great. Was very impressed with them when I was down there a few months ago.

I fully endorse PB&J beers. The Bruery's done two of them in the last year (You Know What Time It Is and PB & Jelly Thursday) which were both delicious, and they have a third, more session-able one coming later this year.

I feel like any drink that ends with a luxardo cherry is a winner. Local place has a riff on “the last word” cocktail. It’s a chartreuse flavor d sour beer with a bit of luxardo juice and a cherry at the bottom. Fun beer. That PBJ beer looks great as well.

Ran a half marathon today, so rewarding myself with one of my favorite fruit lambics:

Lambiek Special by De Cam

This is (I think) a 2015 bottle, and the cork came out with virtually no pop. A bit alarming. Unsurprisingly, there was very little carbonation in the pour, but the taste is still fantastic. I'm not sure if/when he's going to make this again, but I'm going to buy a ton. Great stuff.

Probably gonna open a big stout tonight, too.

Petrus Wild Trippel Ale, aged 24 months in oak. This is really nice, need to explore more Belgian beers.
