Re: The Beer connoisseur thread

I've had a few really good beers from Magnify, but couldn't tell you the names, unfortunately.

Love seeing the Indy beers getting spread around! Citra Nuggets & Pot O Gold are 2 of the beer beers from 450, haven't had Hazy Potter yet, but it got good reviews. Central State makes some good beers, but future shock and Cryo Haze aren't some of their better stuff, unfortunately. Agree with Spivey that Deths Tar is fantastic for a canned BA stout.

Re: The Beer connoisseur thread

Triple Crossing is super hyped but I’ve never had it. Dancing Gnome Ive only had one beer from them (no clue which) that I was very impressed with.

Magnify pretty hit or miss in my opinion. The hits are great but I’ve had a couple IPAs from them that were super astringent, like throat burn levels.

Either way, I’d check out whatever that event is.

Wow, cool! I had no idea Pittsburgh had any great beer now. I'll go to Dancing Gnome next time I'm in town; I've also heard Brew Gentleman might be worth a visit, anyone been?

Yea dancing gnome is definitely loved by the beer nerds. Tired hands is great too (mostly for their milkshakes, others are hit and miss) but it's a little out if Pitt

Maybe I just got a bad bottle? Reviews on BA seem pretty outstanding.

Re: The Beer connoisseur thread

We got some kegs in Indy and I was able to get a couple pours and thought the same. It's a really good beer but give me regular parabola all day. I've never been a huge rye BA fan though.

Spider, bode:

Thx, I was excited about that, but now won’t bother getting one if I see it. Prob still try it if I see it on draft tho.

At the store yesterday and saw this display:

Lol @ the 750 vs 4-pack pricing.

Normally would have grabbed a 4-pack, but after the reviews here I just grabbed a parabola. I have way too much stout already, but really love the parabola.

What reviews? Recent reviews on BA seem good.

Re: The Beer connoisseur thread

Nit,

Multiple underwhelmed with this year’s KBS posts itt.

On the other hand, the one I had on draft a couple weeks ago was very tasty!

Mainly I’m just looking for an excuse not to buy more beer.

Back to the pricing tho, wtf!

Myself, Hoagie and perhaps another person liked it. A few dissenters including Malice who actually came back and second guessed his negative review. I thought it was better than GI and a bunch of other BA bourbon stouts I’ve had recently and a great price. Parabola however is also very good.

Can’t make out the pricing and I hear you on too much beer.

Re: The Beer connoisseur thread

Tired Hands is in the Philly burbs, so not really close to Pittsburgh. I was in Pitt for work a bit over a year ago and had some IPA from Dancing Gnome. It was really good, and surprised me. That's when they were still on the way up and not a brewery people were trading for, but yeah I think I had 3 pints of that beer (Citra Jam, iirc).

Philly has a location of the people who do the GNVP beer. Voodoo Brewing I think? Anyways, I've not had their beer but their best stuff rates very well.

Claremont's Oxford: A BBA Imperial Stout with cinnamon and cocoa nibs. Cinnamon scent is quite strong. Doesn't smell boozy although it's 13% abv. Taste is Xocoveza levels of cinnamon goodness which will be off-putting for some people. Cocoa, vanilla, and slight booziness is also there. Somewhat bitter chocolate finish. Medium body. Some will hate it because of the heavy cinnamon but I like that sort of stuff.

I'm drinking a 2017 KBS right now and it's pretty great. Easily worth $20-$25/4-pack if you're not already an insane hoarder person like I am.

The Beer connoisseur thread

Eclipse fans,

Had the eclipse coffee. It was good, sure, but I’m done buying eclipse. I like plenty of cheaper stouts more.

Re: The Beer connoisseur thread

I haven't bought the eclipse stuff, but it's really hard for me to pull the trigger on $20+ bottles these days for non-brewery only releases unless I've had the beer.

The number of heavy stouts and other things like BWB that you can get in 4 packs for $20 or less is significant.

The best Triple Crossing I've had compares well with the best I've had from TH, Trill, etc. Looks like an excellent hoppy list.

This is nothing. Indy pricing was $24/750, $21/4pack at my local Kroger!

Re: The Beer connoisseur thread

Thanks goofy for the fix. I have no idea why I can't post images like I used to.

Drinking a rye ale aged in bourbon and rye barrels. It's creamy, tasty, and feels much less boozy than a 10.5% abv beer. Pretty good value at four 12 oz cans for $7.00 (Six Point's Righteous Ale.)

Re: The Beer connoisseur thread

Several Whole Foods locations in Chicago appear to have small mountains of KBS as of last night. Some still have BCS and BCSBW (as do many other stores).

Had the Prop 17 for the 3rd or 4th time yesterday. This time at a few degrees cooler than room temperature instead of my normal "15-20 minutes out of fridge" temperature, or on tap. This was the first time I've been able to even pick up the banana notes at all. Really enjoyed it.

I brought:
- new KBS (thought it was mostly in line with last year's?), which my friends hadn't had and they enjoyed
- Bell's Black Note - I really like this and none of my friends including a Bell's nut had had before, and we all enjoyed. Nothing super unique here, just a very good example of the style that now gets a bit more distribution.
- Begyle Barrel Aged Imperial Pajamas - I don't actually know a lot about Begyle even though they're a few blocks from me, but this was nice! Nothing on the world class scale I guess but again, a really good stout. Black, coffee, bourbon forward.

Oh, and like 3 Blue Moons. They were nice too. Maybe it was just a nice sunny day and we were grilling and I liked everything. Who knows. Maybe I'm getting less critical in either old age or in the age of glut of high end craft beer.
