Wicked Weed is doing a bottle release this weekend of it's Golden Angel and will be popping some 2015 White Angel bottles to serve as well. Looking at their tap list (https://wickedweedbrewing.com/beers/...!funkatorium): Oblivion, Medora, Bourbon Oblivion, Black Angel and Lost Toys #2 are some of my favorites.

Burial's tap list (http://www.burialbeer.com/taproom/): Surf Wax, Momentary Inception and Dawn of Sacred Lands. I just saw they are releasing Gang of Blades DIPA and The Glow of Glistening Fangs IPA this week, so those would probably be worth checking out.

In between those two is a bottle shop called Tasty Beverage (https://tastybeverageco.com/asheville/). They usually have a decent draft list, but also a ton of beers in their cooler that they'd be glad to pour. I would highly recommend anything from Zebulon if they have it in stock. I've heard good things about the Newgrass hazy IPAs which were just released.

Not too high on Catawba, but they are releasing a oak-aged Brett Belgian with Apricots tomorrow that sounds interesting.

The M-43 can be found statewide afaik. They have a list of places they distribute to on their website. It can be tricky to get some times so if I see it I buy it. The other brews aren't distributed or are in very small quantities.

I'd recommend Catawba for their King Coconut Porter. Also Barleys Tap room which will have a selection of local brews in addition to some tasty pizza.

Rdh,

Like personally? Or for Sam Adams?

Trillium released some rare sugar water today but I passed.

Had 3 beers tonight:

Night Shift, morph(ipa) : batch 50. Very solid low abv (sub 5%) neipa. They do good low abv stuff. That simple.

Foolproof (RI) The Grotto IPA. 6.5%. Weird and I'll revisist at another time. Not sure how old this is. Definitely unique. Lemony like crazy on the nose. Grassy. Almost a hopped up saison if anything.

Foley Brothers (VT): Prospect. DIPA, 9.0%. Holy moly. This is insanely good. Only knock is maybe a tad bit of fusel alcohol on the nose. Super hoppy, Citra and galaxy from what I looked up ex post facto. Watermelon, pineapple, solid malt/brown sugar sweetness. Bitter dry finish. This is probably a better DIPA than any trillium DIPA I've had.

I had this out of a bomber but I've seen they've started canning. Not sure on distro.

Looks like I'm going to get to try my first Tree House tomorrow. Some neighborhood friends are going to be sharing growlers of Curiosity 36 and 37.

I visited Transient Artisan Ales in Bridgman, MI and was absolutely blown away. Super small brewery that is absolutely killing IPAs. I had a double IPA called "The Juice is Loose" and it was was of the best I have ever had. Highly recommend.

Sounds like a serious lack of WIM on your part.

Glad you enjoyed it, great place, I think I recommended it. Their IPAs are great. I'm really looking forward to trying more of their wild stuff as it comes out too... Anachronism was their first spontaneous beer and it was great. Their big stouts are also amazing... this place is just killing it all around.

---

On that note:

Anyone in Madison? I'm looking forward to checking out Funk Factory's new taproom when I can get up there (from Chicago). Maybe for a release or something.

---

As you can probably tell, I really like wild/spontaneous beer the most, so I've been putting together a few (US-based) weekends and plans.

I tend to fall back on Austin for Jester King because I love that place and love BBQ, but I'm looking for new ideas.

I did Avery/Black Project, (super highly recommend and ISO BP!) though I'd probably try to work in a longer drive over to check out Casey in the future.

I'd love to plan around a release, but it's such a pain in the ass to tell when anything comes out due to the nature of the beer.

3 current ideas:
A SARA / Rare Barrel / Russian River trip sounds like a fun weekend though lots of driving in a place I really don't want to drive.

De Garde and Cascade / other Portland goodies, sounds awesome of course.

Wicked Weed + Fonta Flora

I also want to get down to Side Project as I really enjoy everything I've tried from them... nothing against St Louis but it's otherwise pretty unappealing to me for vacation compared to some pretty amazing looking places listed above.

Anyone else do anything like this specifically for this sorta stuff or have any good related ideas?

The nice thing about de garde is they almost always have a decent bottle list to go. They update regularly on their Facebook page. It's such a cool place to visit, out in the middle of nowhere on a farm, but only 15 mins from the coast and very easy driving.

And of course great notion.

Look into Bukowski's in the Back Bay. The Publick House in Brookline can be had taking the T. Lower Depths in Kenmore Square will have beer and a pretty good mac n cheese hotdog. Sunset Grill in Allston is great but needs uber/lyft or (shudder) a bus. Lord Hobo in Cambridge(? maybe somerville, I forget). Redbones is good BBQ and a pretty good beer selection, usually, in Davis Square, Somerville. Night Shift Brewery is a great take, need a car to get to Everett, north of the City.

the Harpoon Beer Hall in Southie is a fun place to visit. Their take on a German hall. long communal tables, etc. When I was there they had some small batch stuff that was good, as well as a massive selection of other beers.

pretzels only.

Parents will be driving by Transient in 2 weeks on their way home and i'm going to have them stop and get me some. I think JIL is available most days? Any others you would recommend?

I would try and get JIL, Refraction (Mosaic Pale Ale), Salarium (Gose), Only I Didn't Say Fudge (Imperial Stout).

Had all those and they were tremendous.

Beer nerds,

Tried three last night:

Hawaiian Speedway - coconutty and delicious, really enjoyed it

Belching Beaver peanut butter milk stout on nitro - mediocre, like a peanutty Guinness

Alvarado street double haole punch - lightly sour beer with awesome tropical flavors, this was great!

Downtown,

Bend is another potential visit.

For SF Bay Area, if you skip a SARA visit, you have a ton of options that you can easily do via transit/Uber:

Rare barrel
Fieldwork
Cellarmaker
Almanac
Drakes
21st amendment
Harmonic

That would prob be my list for SF/oakland/Berkeley. Tons more options though: http://www.liquidbreadmag.com/breweries/

And then if you wanted you could do a trip up to Russian river.

I got this (not on nitro though) on tap at our office recently-ish and it was...not a hit.

Just got to Bend for the weekend and I forgot about the wonders of gas station growler fills. We drove up from CA and stopped to get gas and I was conveniently able to fill a 32oz growler of Boneyard's Hop Venom DIPA for $7.50 on the spot! What a wonderful state. (except for the state-controlled liquor stores I guess)

El D,
Thanks for recs. That's quite a list! I wouldn't skip SARA, but I would definitely hit Almanac too, and Cellarmaker and Drake's look great, too. What a time to be alive.
