Chester: I'm sad to say the cans tasted pretty mediocre compared to when they have it on draft. Surprising to me, since brew free or die and back in black cans taste just like at the brewpub.

Feral: yeah I like allagash a lot and you should try that, but for Belgian style stuff in general you're better off just sticking with Belgian stuff IMO.

I recently brewed some 90 min (recipe was called 5400 second, lol) IPA and it is pretty solid.

Not as good as Dogfish does, but pretty good nonetheless.

A bar I frequent got 2 kegs of 120min this summer and I luckily showed up at different times and got to drink from both. It was an experience in a glass.

Feral - where in the US will you be? Certain states only get distributed certain breweries - I can give much better recommendations on non-IPA styles with that info.

Allagash Curieux is probably my favorite beer. All their beers are in the Belgian style, and this one is aged in old Bourbon barrels. The bourbon shines in the taste of this beer.

I had this last night. Pretty dark Rye IPA called "Wookie Jack" from Firestone brewers. Nutty and rich, but still light enough to drink more than one.

Anchorage Brewing Company's 'Bitter Monk' Belgian double IPA. Really delicious. Pretty hoppy, a little fruity. I really liked this beer.

This is the "Wytchmaker IPA" from Jester King brewery near Austin, TX. This beer was f'ing delicious and I'm excited to learn more about their brewery. Not overwhelmingly hoppy and pretty rich. I love their dark bottle art, too.

Here's 'Le Petite Prince', a cloudy blonde devil from the Jester Kings. I can't remember much about this beer because I drank it after the Wytchmaker, but I recall it was a little on the light side. Both of these Jester Kings are worth your $ if you can track them down

Had a beer in rhode island years back. I think it was red storm. Impossible to get in Midwest.

Green flash brewery's "le freak" and "rayon vert" are best American Belgian-style ales IMO. Also good are Allagash beers, Ithaca's "white gold exelcior" and Unibroue's "la fin du monde" from Quebec.

I'm a really big fan of Southampton's saison. You should be able to find plenty of dogfish head, prima, ommegang, alagash, and sixpoint. After that, just let your bartender be your guide as NYC also gets some Portland stuff as well that is totally worth trying

Spent my night in Brewdog, Camden (London UK). Punk IPA is my favourite day to day beer, even better when on tap. Had Zeitgeist and Alice Porter, both solid. Finished with a glass of sink the bismark! for good measure, as was with non-beer people - how they can make something taste that good at 41% is beyond me.

New to this thread, hadn't seen it before. I'm in Chicago, so I tend toward some of the Midwestern good stuff that I can get around here.

Cool beer haul yesterday:

Zes Zes Zes - Three Floyds + De Molen
Broo Doo - Three Floyds
Topless Wytch - Three Floyds
Hitachino Nest White Ale - Kiuchi
Gumballhead - Three Floyds
Breakfast Stout - Founders

Hard to find (I haven't sought it out), but I've been keeping an eye out (in particular for Ninja vs. Unicorn). Thanks for the reminder.

NvU is on a hiatus for a little bit. I know that an imperial IPA from them called Unicorn's revenge is supposed to come out at some point.

They're pretty easy to find if you know where to look. West Lakeview liquors has them, all of the binny's in the city have them, Vas Foremost and Andersonville Wine and Spirits should have them as well.

Either way, that looks awesome.

Had this beer for the first time a few days ago - as a reference point, I like Newcastle Brown Ale more than most, but don't really go out of my way for it.

If this Rogue beer weren't $5/bottle, I think I might have it every night for the next several months

So. Fricking. Good. Like a liquid desert that's not too sweet!

I came to this thread just to post about Ommegang Rare Vos. Had it recently in LA and it was excellent.

Even though some of the following have been recommended already, I also recommend St. Bernardus Abt. 12, La Fin Du Monde, Triple Karmeliet, and Duvel. I love Belgians/Belgian-style dark and golden ales.

Hi!

Just switched from whisky to beer for some time, just got temporarily fed up. Looking forward to participate! Beer is in reality my long lasting companion, while whisky is the exciting acquaintance.

Alright, thanks for the rec. Picked some up (didn't see Unicorn's Revenge) with some other stuff at (the old Sam's) Binny's. Not sure how well regarded any of these are, just picked some styles I'd otherwise enjoy. Looking forward to trying them all.
