Is it worth $25 to get 5 ounces of CBS and KBS*2 (Breakfast Stout is easily available elsewhere)? I think yes, especially if you've never had CBS or KBS.

What you might find out is that something like Big Bad Baptist is about as good, easily available, and cheaper. But it's still fun to do events like these.

Southern Tier Creme Brulee Stout quite possibly the worst beer I've ever tasted. Had 3 sips of a bomber and dumped the rest. Good lord.

Beer advocate has it at 88 which I find insane. There are a few bad reviews on there and with those they pretty much hit the nail on the head.

Completely agree. I tried it once a few years ago and wouldn't take another sip. once I entered the untappd era, I tried it again and hated it even more. I like Creme Brûlées and I like stouts. I don't need them together.

this sounds a bit simplistic, but I think once you get into these stranger flavors, subjectivity/importance of your personal preference goes way up.

like I can't imagine anyone who likes big stouts to drink, say, an Old Rasputin and not think "that's really good!". Something like "ranks" even higher though, like Hunaphu - that's going to be more divisive bc it has non traditional flavors in there. I want nothing to do with spiciness in my beer even though I put sriracha on everything

No but it literally tastes like someone poured robitussin in already meh beer. You even get the cough syrup after taste for the rest of the night.

My recent favorite brews are Sierra Nevada Hop Hunter and Prescott Brewing Co. Ponderosa. The Hop Hunter has a strong nose of OG Kush and even has a little OG flavor -- really interesting and tasty.

Wow, I had the complete opposite reaction to Hop Hunter. I thought it tasted like hop-flavored water - super thin and not enjoyable at all. (I could see how it might appeal to someone when they're drinking maybe 3 or more in a single setting.)

Stone Go To is a lot closer to hop flavored water. Hop Hunter lands between Go To and a normal IPA for me. The hops definitely don't linger like a normal IPA that's for sure, but I will probably buy it again.

I've had it at three different locales and they've all been great for me. Maybe I just run good. It's a little on the light side for sure but I dunno, I like the orange flavor.

Hmm, this is really, really sweet.

I'm expecting it to get better as time goes by (as I think the 2011 did), but right now I'm regretting a little bit how much I stocked up on this.

An edit: I just poured some more; it's not unpleasant. In fact, I'm pretty sure this is one of the few beers my wife actually likes. It's just not going to blow your mind unless you're in the habit of eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches without peanut butter or bread.

Welp. I thought I was going to just try the bottle and then cap it for another night. But now I'm finishing the bottle. And it's midnight. So obviously I'm enjoying it.

Thank god for tenure.

This thread always cracks me up for what spidercrab apparently considers alcoholism. (I'm finishing the bottle! BY MYSELF! IT'S A WORK NIGHT!)

Like maybe I'm alone in here, but I would need to drink 3 of those ****ers to even feel tipsy.

It's a 25 oz bomber with 9.2 ABV, I'd be pretty toasted after two of them (probably before that tbh). But I only drink 2x a week really.

*does the maths*

Ah OK. Yeah, I don't think beer comes in that big a bottle here.

Even still, 1 would be whatever. 2 would be drunk. Somewhere around 3-4 I'd be ill.

Alcoholism? I don't think I've ever mentioned anything about alcoholism. I'm just not crazy about being sluggish in the morning.

Like mullen said, it's a large bottle of relatively high alcohol beer. And in fairness to me, I had had a bottle of Boulevard Tank 7 earlier in the evening. But in general, that combination is much more than I would typically drink - life was much more fun when I didn't have any responsibilities.

Yeah I've had bombers that have gotten me tipsy for sure. Hell, I've had 750ml bottles that I've split with a friend and felt tipsy afterwards.

Years ago, before I had much experience with better beer, a manager of mine got me a 750 of St. Bernardus Christmas Ale for the holidays (everyone else on the team got wine). I cracked it one night just hanging out with my wife and finished the thing myself.

A couple of hours later, I woke up on the floor in front of the fireplace.

Fremont Brewing, one of the best breweries in Seattle (and the region, as far as I'm concerned), just did an anniversary beer — for a local drugstore chain.

It's a 10.5-percent double IPA. It's great. And it's $5.49 for a bomber.

I very much enjoy living in the PNW.

If you're in Seattle, I think all Bartell Drugs locations received bottles of the 125th Anniversary Spring Elixir. It's definitely worth checking out.

So an $18 six pack? $5.50 is OK for a bomber but that just shows how out of whack pricing is for those things.

Yeah, I know that bombers generally are not a cost-effective way to buy beer. For a quality IIPA, though, I think this bomber is a pretty good value compared to many others.

Normal pub I go to in town has Founders All Day IPA on tap at £4.80/pint, worth the trip to try it?

Last edited by sixfour; 03-13-2015 at 04:04 PM. Reason: £/$ rate is WOAT on our end so that'll seem cheaper than it really is

That's a pretty crazy price but all day is a very good beer imo

All Day IPA is pretty boring imo. It's decent if you need a beer to drink... for an entire day. Wouldn't go out of my way for a session beer especially if you're expecting some big awesome Founders experience.

yeah, might just try the one because it's there.

also was able to try the rochefort 8 earlier today. seems a very good beer, it's literally like a weaker version of the 10 which is one of my favourite beers of all time, wouldn't notice it's 9+%

Since I'm assuming you don't have the best IPA selection being in the UK, I'd probably try the All Day. Its fine for what it is, but if you can fine other quality IPAs I'd probably avoid paying that much for it
