Yep, of course I should have prefaced this with location. I live in London but travel to continental Europe a lot (and I will be moving back to the US sometime in 2019, so all the US pilsner recs are much appreciated and will certainly not go to waste)

I've gotta say - 12 oz bottles of Blushing Monk scratch me right where I itch. I love this beer.

London! You should have said. Well, looking back at the last couple of years I don't think I've had a Pilsner I've really loved, although people are making more of an effort with them now.

Some of those I've liked most (mainly UK, otherwise available here in London) are listed below but many if not all of them have been one-off batch brews. If none of these are available you might see whether the breweries are putting something else out in the same style.

• Marble's It's Beer (not candles)
• Cloudwater's Pilsner Motueka Mandarina or Motueka Pilsner
• Magic Rock's Dancing Bear
• Pressure Drop's All Else Fails
• Bauhaus Brew Labs' Wonderstuff [actually, this was in Minneapolis so you can probably discount this one for now]
• Mondo Brewing Company's All Caps
• Lervig's I Got Pils, Now What?

If I really cared, I'd do a blind taste test, but I feel like Tilquin's got to be my favorite gueuze.

Yup, Tilquin continues to bang.

Also, this is the first fruited Tilquin where I haven't thought, "I always prefer regular gueuze to fruited". I definitely preferred this to Mure, Quetsche, and Groseille:



It looks flat, but opened with a nice pop and felt like it had plenty of carbonation as I was drinking it. I really loved this beer and I'm glad I have another one.

Grabbed a 4 pack of KBS and I’m enjoying one now.

Seems like it’s less sweet than your average kbs with less oak flavor. Lots of coffee and dark chocolate.

Really tasty as always.

Headed to San Diego for 5 days in June. Plan on spending most of that time visiting various breweries. Anyone have any musts? Can’t decide if I want to get an Airbnb in Pacific Beach or Ocean Beach or other though. Definitely hitting up Modern Times and Stone

I went there a month ago. I'm happy I went to Alesmith. They had a few variants of Speedway, some decent to-go beers (I got a barrel aged speedway bottle, a couple of one-off variants, and a bottle of one of their coffee non-barrel aged variants). The space is also nice and has a nice Tony Gwynn museum/exhibit that is pretty cool to spend 10-15 minutes on if you're into baseball. But it's out of the city, so you have to plan that since their best beers are their stouts imo.

We didn't end up hitting up Modern Times or the SD Mikeller because family, but those seem like musts.

Other things: There's a Bottlecraft in Little Italy which is a bottle shop with also about 20 taps. They had some pretty intriguing taps and some pretty killer bottles. They had bottles of 3F Hommage, A&G, and Kriek to go, which is unheard of where I live (Madison). I got the second two and I think something else.

If you live in a land locked area, one place I enjoyed a good amount is Wonderland. The beers aren't great, but it overlooks the Pacific and their Pescadero Sampler (food) I found to be pretty good. That's in Ocean Beach, where there's a Pizza Port and Modern Times as well.

As for other beer stuff:

- I really like KBS but I'm holding out right now because of the news about the work environment that came out last October. They make great beer for the style and price point, but there's enough good beer I can support people that I suspect are more inclusive

- M-43: They have cans of this at Cat Cora's restaurant in the ****ing Detroit airport if you're ever going through there. I can checked once and it was within like a month freshness. In fact that may be the only place I've ever had that beer.

- I've had plenty of stuff recently, but nothing too noteworthy. I just finished the last can of the 4 pack of the Revolution Straight Jacket. I normally prefer stouts and porters to barleywines, but I'll be damned if that's not a good one. Also had a small pour of Sump with dinner tonight. God damn that's a good beer.

- It's warming up a bit finally thank god. Gonna BBQ and crack a few beers to ring in spring this year. I'm thinking we'll probably do St. Lam, Midnight Orange, BA 17, and maybe another fancy beer or two.

- A local Madison brewery, Funk Factory, released this winter their American gueuze, called Four Winters. It's one of the better beers I've ever had. I only bought 3 bottles of it, when we could have had more. But, much like Side Project/Alesmith/etc, when these bottles are like $30-35 a pop, you think twice about how much you max your allocation. Anyways, I think I like it more than 3F/Tilquin/Cantillon gueuze.

- I've struck out on the various lotterys/BPT events the last few months. So it goes. Sometimes wonder if it's even worth it dealing the **** show many of these events often are.

The delta terminal at DTW has some really sick options these days! Did you eat at the cat Cora restaurant? I’ve not been.

WRT the founders racism ordeal, I really hope it’s either a massive misunderstanding or a very isolated mistake by a singular employee as opposed to a ****ty culture. I’m more of a wait and see kind of fella but I respect your decision.

Picked up a couple of new beers from 18th street. Both without much flavor and underwhelming.

Magical Juice a milkshake ipa with rasberry, vanilla,lemon and lactose sugar
Hydro Whales a milkshake with tangerine, vanilla and lactose.

Been disappointed with their new beers and can never find Deal With The Devil, a top 5 beer for me. Not even sure they sill brew it or can it anyway.

They are opening up a taproom here in Indy. I’m pumped, but I agree that they have taken a downturn.

In case that was a dig at the fine print, restrictions are surely a result of state liquor laws dating back to prohibition.

No dig. Just putting the fine print out there in case people didn't notice it. Would've been a bummer to show up and have it not be offered. Yeah, we have some maddening alcohol laws still in effect.

Yesterday was the last day of a first-time class for me, so I opened a nice bottle to celebrate:



I love the original version of this - it's one of my favorite beers of all time. And I remember being disappointed the first time I had this vintage. But last night, this tasted great. The other notable beer I've had recently is this one:



Fat Head's kills it in the IPA world, and this is no exception. Mostly I like it for the name.
