Doing a blind taste test with my wife and friends this weekend. We’ve got about 25 beers that will be entered including Treehouse, Trillium, Narrow Guage, Turning Point, and various locals from Indy and STL. Really looking forward to the results and more importantly, the drinking. I’ll post a pic of the lineup and results if there is interest.

I had the chocolate orange dragon's milk from new holland at EBF. It reminded me quite a bit of the midnight orange. I was also extremely drunk so my opinion may be reliable

Would definitely like to see the lineup, and results, if possible. Being in St. Louis myself, we are very spoiled when it comes to selection, and availability. I need to go through my cellar and start drinking, trading, etc. I have a bad habit of buying way faster than I drink.

Haven't had the Dragons Milk Chocolate Orange. Have had the majority of the variations, and most of them are just meh to me. If I can find one of these, I would def like to try it.

Thats fair. Though I thought the other dragons milks at EBF were pretty meh, so I'm holding out hope that I am not talking completely out of my ass here

So this is pretty good, but far too strong at 14.8% ABV. I enjoyed the first 4 oz. or so, but am struggling with the rest. I haven't had it in a while, but Avery's Tweak (at 18%) didn't seem as alcoholic as this beer does.

If I had my druthers, I'd cap all stouts at 12%, all DIPAs at 10%, and all IPAs at 7.5%.

Here were all the beers we tasted. 25 was way too much but we had a blast. Winners were Julius and Narrow Guage Apricot King Fallen Flag.

Yeah that's a lot of IPAs, but looks like fun - how many people? Also what were at the bottom?

another Indy share from the weekend:
Friends and I had been planning to do a "Whale Share" for about 6 months, but there was always at least 1 person that couldn't make it. Finally got everyone lined up Saturday for the best share I've ever been part of. General rule was everyone had to bring one $200+ bottle and then whatever else extra you wanted to bring. The amount of absolutely killer beers was unreal. Highlights for me were J Wakefield Tape Rock, Barrel Aged Abraxas, Angry Chair BA Imperial German Cupcake Stout, 17 Chemtrailmix, Morning Delight and 2014 Bourbon County Prop. BA Freedom Toast from Forager was a notable beer, but god damn was it too sweet.

Had a ton of fun and could barely walk after 6 hours of drinking 14% stouts. would do again in a heartbeat.

it's not really a surprise they couldn't survive in the current market because they never really showed the ability to adapt to the ever increasing competition, but their IPA was one of the first NW IPAs that inspired the rest.

I was in Portland for other reasons but I did stop by to pay my respects yesterday. I'm so old that I remember 1984 when they opened and lived across the river in Washington from 1985-1987. Good Times. H. Winehard's was still brewing in downtown Portland then also and the hop smell would permeate the air.

Original IPA: Very good.




Hazy IPA: Excellent with that just right citrus/piney zing that I like so well.




And a tip of the hat to that old brick Weinhard brewing building - The Old Blitz (Henry Weinhard's) Brewery near downtown.

Def drank a lot of Bridgeport IPAs when I moved to Sac after college. Great beer.

Nugget Nectar is tasting real, real nice this year.

Anyone have some go-to pilsners they'd recommend? I had the Mikkeler "I don't have a red shrimp" today and really enjoyed it. Made me realize I should probably be drinking a few more pilsners.

Rothaus is my favorite readily available as long as it's relatively fresh (the bottles have best buy dates on them).

Pilsner Urqell is good too.

A local brewery Notch apparently does a great pils but I haven't had the chance to try it.

Urquell is the ur-Czech pils but I just can't get past the diacetyl in it. I much prefer a German pils to a Czech. Pretty much any one you can find from Germany will be authentic but also probably not fresh, and whether you can get a local that's any good depends entirely on your "local." If you let us know where you are someone may be able to help you out.

not sure what part of the country you're in but Buoy cans a really good czech pils. their IPA and cream ale are also very good.

Actually, Pilsners have been my beer of choice so far in 2019. I have been cycling back and forth between Terminal Gravity, TG Pilz from Enterprise, Oregon and Crux Fermentation Crux Pilz from Bend, Oregon. They are both relatively easy drinkers. TG has a crisp dry finish where the Crux starts out like a basic lager but opens up with a nice complex flavor profile in the finish.

Boneyard is also making a Pils but you'll likely need to find it on tap somewhere.
