Jucifer is quite good. Had a couple of pints of that when I was in New Orleans a couple of months back. Courtyard Brewery is a good just-getting-off-the-ground micro that specializes in NEIPA but have a fairly substantial guest tap list.

Parish Brewing makes good stuff, though I think the main thing you'd likely see in New Orleans is Canebreak which is fine but ultimately just like a wheat ale. I was driving from Texas so hit it up. Not worth going out of the city for, but happy I got to get to the source and try some of their best stuff.

I think the place I went in New Orleans was called the Bulldog. Pretty nice outdoor patio. Made it there twice, actually - was quite Wednesday at 1pm, very busy Friday at 4pm. Shocking, I know.

Pretty sure they don’t. There’s a %17 on tap here.

Spivey,

I’m actually at courtyard right now. I’ve tried a few of their sours and neipas. Pretty hit or miss but it’s fun going to a place that’s still trying to figure their **** out.

Thanks! I remembered you recommended Dieu du Ciel and went to their brewpub yesterday, but forgot you said you liked the dark beers in particular. The good news is that I thought their IPAs were nice as well, particularly the Moralite. Bummed because I was just about to order a Peche Mortel but was running short on time and had to get the airport.

Also really liked the Les Trois Mosquetaires IPA I had on Sunday night. Very strong citrus notes, especially grapefruit. Almost tasted like a better, subtler version of grapefruit Sculpin.

El D, thanks for the heads up on Fieldwork coffee IPAs, I'll be checking their Berkeley and San Mateo draft lists in hopes they bring it back soon!

Currently drinking Titanic Plum Porter at my local beer fest, despite my best mate saying it's his favourite beer I've been loathed to try it, not being a huge fan of plums or porter, but it's pretty ****ing good

Had a nice beer mail come through yesterday. Excited for all of these! BTW, isn't an owner/brewer from Bottle Logic a 2p2er?

Those all look phenomenal, I'm jelly. Friend is doing a beer tasting tomorrow and I know Julius and some other TH stuff is on the menu, probably some other good bottles too; I'll report back!

(this is the same friend who acquired KBBS a year ago for a nice day drinker on a 103 degree day, should only be 84 tomorrow)

@sixfour I was pleasantly surprised by Titanic too. Not a fan of porters really but it's very good.

Results:
- didn't actually wind up opening Julius, probably a leak but we had so many other good beers by the time we realized it was still in the fridge
- winner of the day: Toppling Goliath Assassin - I think we had it last year too but with KBBS and Mornin' Delight also being served last year, it's pretty crazy that Assassin was like the third best beer we had that day
- also really good: a coffee and hazelnut stout from Horus Aged Ales in Oceanside, at first it was like "the amount of adjuncts in my mouth right now is offensive" and after a few sips it changed to "wow this is really delicious"
- probably forgetting stuff

beer store by me has all these old bottles in the back. I recognize some of the cascade bottles. Is it worth buying any of the past year bottles?

I think that Blackcap Raspberry is my favorite Cascade. I'd buy a bottle of that. Would definitely avoid the Blueberry.

those are great prices on Cascade. Those are usually $30 around me.

main reason i was asking is bc they are all multiple years old. IDK if that is good or bad.

They were all on sale so more like $21/bottle but they had some back to 2010

Personally, I've dug Cascade brews that have more age on them. They are different then the fresh versions (LDO) and can hold up quite well. Definitely worth a punt on them with the knowledge that you may get a dud, but you may also get something pretty cool.

NYC friends: my buddy just had Heady Topper at Drop Off Service. I dunno if this is common now, definitely wasn't when I was living there in 2012-14.

Very common now which is nice. It’s always onsite consumption only, but we get drops of Heady and Focal every couple months or so.

Personally think Focal > Heady and that the best nyc local stuff is better than both. Game done changed a lot since 2014.

Sounds like I need to make a trip back soon! The NYC beer scene was pretty bleak 5 years ago, figured it was only a matter of time until it got good.

Drinking Full Earth. It's a double NEIPA from Old Nation. I guess it's replacing Boss Tweed for the summer. Doesn't have the flavor of Tweed and has a boozy taste. There was also a strawberry M-43 I missed. Heard a wide range of opinions. Anywhere from artificial tasting to great.

Mine too.

I'd definitely get some for that price.

Strawberry was pretty meh imo. The first 4oz were great but the last 12 got a little cloying.

The real star is the ME-MI collaboration with foundation. If you see any of that around grab it. It’s popped up in a few taprooms recently.

Stout fans,

The ba monsters park with all the stuff added was ok. The nitro ba monsters park with coffee was ****ing incredible (details for both on that menu). Looks like they released it in cans. I highly recommend it!
