Also their stout Ladyfinger was one of the best non-barrel aged stouts I’ve ever had. Think I remember them getting mixed reviews ITT.

Sick lineup in the post above. What did you think of the Equilibrium? I haven’t had that particular one, but I had a Vulgar Display of Flower recently that was a top 5 IPA ever for me.
Extra Vanilla is one of my favorite Milkshakes TH does. You picked a great weekend to go.

I'm in the minority on Equilibrium. The one in that pic is Fractal, and I've had it a couple times. It's decent but nothing I'd seek out. And their #4science series was extremely underwhelming for me. Had Vulgar Display of Flower also recently and it was definitely one of my favorite Equilibrium beers

Haven't had that particular Mystic but Mystic has been killing it. Mystic table beer is one of a small few shelf beers I buy pretty regularly.

Heard double Citra is killer now as Sean Hill has been more picky with which hop producers he buys from. Was a great beer already.

At The Willows for their beer week kick the keg night, just had Avery Tweak (BA coffee stout) for the first time. Really impressed with it. gf got BCBS and KBS and I think I like Tweak better than both. Surprised that the Avery website says it only spends 5 months in barrels, most beers like that taste pretty thin but this one is rich and has really well-balanced coffee flavor.

Goofy,

Had other plans today/tonight and couldn’t make it to the willows. Last Sunday at the willows is maybe my favorite beer week thing. Hope you get to choose a keg!

Non-SF peeps - this bar that does great events and tap takeovers all week puts the leftover kegs of lots of great stuff all at half price, plus if you kick one you get to pick the next one to put on.

We did not get to choose one. It was my first time at the Willows, pretty cool but also seemed like the guy at the beer bar had a lot of work to do and no one to help him (it took us about 10 minutes to get our first beers, while a long line built up behind us, because two kegs just kicked and he had to replace them and then write the new signs for the menu and make sure they were flowing and stuff).

But, at the same time, you can't complain about 8oz of BCBS for $5!

Boston area bros, if you like sours, definitely check out Springdale Barrel Room (sister brand to Jack's Abby and right next door in Framingham). Went there for the first time yesterday and was super impressed. My wife and I split 3 flights that had 1 breakfast stout, 2 IPAs, and 9 different sours between them. I thought everything we tried was pretty killer. Standouts included the Brigadeiro breakfast stout, the Really, Though DIPA, abd the Cuvee D'Or Rouge a sour blend in oak. I also really liked the Tequila Me Softly, a sour golden ale with lime zest and salt that went into tequila barrels. Also enjoyed the vibe there quite a bit with a lot of space and the arcade and bar games. Nice contrast to JA which is the big beer hall with lots of tables and TVs and the kitchen but is a bit more staid. Very excited for them to start distributing more so I don't have to haul my ass over there to get some beers.

After that, I caught the end of a blue grass festival where a friend was working as a sound engineer and had us on the list and then went back to Jack's Abby for dinner and another flight (because Springdale closes early on Sundays). Tried the Good Morning Granny breakfast IPL that I had been too afraid to commit to a 4-pack of when it was in stores. Its an IPL with coffee, tapioca, and lactose. It smelled tropical, but the flavor had all the promised adjuncts. It was weird, but it worked for me.

goofy,

They are usually well-staffed for beer week events, but it's never that surprising to me when a bar ends up short-staffed towards the end of beer week...

Got 8 Kane beers packed for my 2 week trip to Brazil tomorrow. Layer of bubble wrap on each can, inside a padded envelope, inside a bubble wrap bag. Hoping it makes it there safely and customs doesn't give me a hard time

Should I try and get any of these beers from Bissell when I’m in Portland? How long should I anticipate to wait?

Definitely go for Swish. That’s known as their best beer. As far as lines I’m not sure. When I went I waited about a half hour and beer lasted long after the line subsided, but that wasn’t for a release as much in demand as Swish. Hopefully a local here can answer. Looking at the last Instagram of a Swish release, they sold out at 12:45 but you could’ve gotten cans if you were in line at open based on the comments.

Saturday release will make it a bit more of a wait.

Also FYI they have substance daily.

Shared these with a buddy, we were both pretty much on the same page

Swish > very green > double Citra >>>>> haze >>>> frappe >>>>>> ma

1st three were all amazing, splitting hairs there, but if I had to choose 1 beer to have forever, it'd probably be swish.

So Yea, get swish.

Welp, about to go on an 11 day bender. Have I mentioned I love where I live?

2018 Portsmouth Beer Week

Want to reiterate the Swish love. Great beer and brewery.

- The Masonry is a pizza and beer spot that is close. They often have one of the best bottle and draft lists, getting rare stuff that I don't see often in this area. For example, cracking a Cantillion Rose de Gambrinus keg for NYE.
- Teku Tavern another solid beer bar with a wide variety of taps and bottles.
- Downtown Spirits is a nearby bottle shop with good selection if you're looking to take some home.

If you end up going to Holy Mountain, Urban Family is nearby has some really good sours and hops. But Urban Family is pretty much Ballard area... so

If you head to Ballard/Fremont area, Ruebens + Stoup are two solid breweries a couple blocks from each other. Then the recs above for Fremont area, Fremont, Brouwer's, Outlander.

If you end up in Capitol Hill, I would probably only recommend The Pine Box and Chucks Hop Shop.
Made it to cloudburst, Teku, and the pine box. All solid recs. The Pine Box was gearing up for some sour party they were having so there were a lot of sours on tap which is cool. Cloudburst was great. All the beers were good, The DIPA was kind of the standout though. The strange windowless mega hipster space really brought it all together for me.

Thanks again

Packing beer seems like a fish move unless you're trying to get cool retweets from the brewery. But I'll be surprised if run into any trouble.

Hello beer thread, hoping to get schooled in beer from all you beer nerds and can maybe contribute a little here as well.

Popped a Pirate Noir, seem like I get more rum barrel funk and less sweet than Pirate Bomb. I’ve been anti bourbon/rum barrel aged stuff recently, but I enjoyed this.

Prairie brewery makes some really great stuff. If I’m unfortunate enough to ever get stuck in Tulsa at least I can to go there brewery.

Nit,

Speaking of prairie, a local bar has these two kegs on their coming soon list:

Deconstructed Bomb! Cacao Nibs
Imperial Stout
13% ABV Prairie Artisan Ales Tulsa, OK
Imperial Stout Aged on Cacao Nibs
Serving Sizes: 4oz Taster, 10oz Draft

Deconstructed Bomb! Coffee
Imperial Stout
13% ABV Prairie Artisan Ales Tulsa, OK
Imperial Stout Aged on Coffee
Serving Sizes: 4oz Taster, 10oz Draft

Looking forward to trying both of these.

ELD those deconstructed bombs seem cool, I’d like to try them side by side. Those Okies in Tulsa can make some good beer.

I happen to be in Seattle this weekend for a wedding, so good timing on the recs.

Got in last night, had some Reubens and cloudburst.

Cloudburst snoozefest. 7% neipa, it was solid nothing spectacular.

Then we had Reubens new triple crush... And it's a top 5 beer ever for me, right up there with the best monkish/Bissell/great notion/treehouse etc. Basically a perfect beer, 10% and super favorable and full bodied with no boozy aftertaste like you get with many triples. Tasted like a double which is usually the sweet spot for body and flavor.

I want to +1 Swish. Easily the best beer I've had from Bissell. In the past year basically everything from Bissell seems to have stepped up a notch ime.

Beer peeps,

I find it kinda crazy that Fieldwork consistently pumps out such a wide range of beers, most of which are really, really good:

Lot of rotation on the list every week too.

Just got out of cloudburst, gotta say, pretty disappointed!

Looked up the 2 highest rated beers on tap and ordered them for me and the fiance, the double hazy fanfare and the hazy single both right now..
Very malty for the style, wouldn't go again 🤷*♂️

Almost zero hop taste unfortunately.

Back to reubens for the triple I guess, holy mountains list looks pretty bleh right now too
