Any ideas on breakfast/brunch?

I already made hesitant reservations at both of those steak places (chops, bones) because it seemed like a thing to do, but now I'm reconsidering.. I'm a seafood person but the fiancee isn't so much and some of those places seem good for that.

A little food Trip Report (possible tl;dr), thanks CDL and Judge for the recs

We stayed at the Intercontinental Buckhead, which was very nice. Art Smith's restaurant is there, as well as his well-stocked bourbon bar. Great cocktails with a nice little menu and is open late, which was crucial.

Thursday (Christmas):

Waffle House-We got in early and were starving, but it's daunting to try and find something on Christmas day to eat in a city you know nothing about. Passed Waffle House on the way to the hotel, tried to do the Christmas Brunch at the hotel but it was booked. Came back to Waffle House and it was hilariously packed. Waited about 30 mins which wasn't awful all considered. Food was about what I expected for a greasy breakfast diner (exactly what I wanted), although very different from what we call Waffle House in Chicago.

Some Chinese place for dinner- Obligated. Found out afterwards that Ruth's Chris was open at a hotel across the street, but alas, too late.

Friday:

Highland Bakery (can't remember if it was midtown or old 4th ward)- Nice brunch spot, had the benedict and french toast, both very good, crab cake was mediocre. The baked goods (mainly cupcakes but also bars and stuff) were solid.

Fox Bros. BBQ- Fantastic. Got the everything platter as suggested, not a mistake. Fiancee is a psycho for tater tots so we got her the Lopez (tots with brisket chili and cheese) which was outrageous. Ribs unbelievable, mac and cheese was different and very good (heavy cream or sour cream based?). Good straight brisket, chicken also cooked perfectly. Not a bad beer menu either, I had a porter but can't find a beer menu online.

Bacchanalia- When I realized I could get reservations and everyone kept saying how good it was, I figured we had to go. First of all, let me say there needs to be better directions on how to get into the restaurant…or I'm an idiot. Took about 5 minutes of wandering in too cold until I spotted a sous chef coming out of the outside bathroom with a 'B' on his coat and he walked us in. Overall meal was good, although I wouldn't say I was blown away. The tab was ~340 I think? We had some wine, and the fiancee got the Kobe upgrade, which was phenomenal.

Saturday:

Canoe- Great atmosphere, garden you can walk around in is a very nice touch. I had the rabbit and the fiancee had the salmon. Rabbit was good, as was the salmon. Desserts were sub-par however (apple tart and chocolate torte or something).

Overall a really enjoyable trip filled with good food and nice drinks. Will 100% be back.

Nwolfe, Glad you had a good time. You hit a lot of longtime Atlanta bests - including WaHo (glad you went).

While Canoe has very good food, I don't think its elite, but that restaurant is one of the most beautiful places to eat, isn't it?

Maybe I just don't eat fine dining enough but Canoe is my favorite restaurant in Atlanta. I think the food is pretty elite especially the smoked salmon app.

I thought the crab cake was really good, my rabbit was fantastic (although I've only had rabbit a few times in my life). Salmon was cooked very well and tasty but nothing special as far as I could tell. Desserts were really disappointing. Price was reasonable though?

I didn't mean to diss Canoe, it's a damn good restaurant. I'm just sayin it's not in my top 10 or 15 in ATL if I want to have the best meal I can get, and that list is taking into consideration value for your $.

$105 for 8hrs + car seems really low. I worked with a girl who did a couple extras scenes for Need for Speed with her car (not a super special NFS-style car) and she was getting like $250/night.

Unrelated: pretty much every sit-down restaurant in Krog Street is way too expensive for what it is. The stall places are pretty pricey too, all things considered. Only saving graces are Hop City and Jeni's.

But that place is always slammed, so what do I know?

I would think that a girl quality enough to be in need4speed would be worth $250 as opposed to my fat ass for $105

the only reason I'd do it is I read the book and it was phenomenal.

Any new really good spots open up over the last 6mos to a year? Moved away a year ago and now I'm comin back. Been to Krog street a couple of times now. Yala was solid, and the philly at Fred's was delicious. Both were expensive for what they were, but they were huge portions so probably fair. Still favor Sweet Auburn over Krog. Food just as good and prices are much better.

Also I'm looking for a really good Greek/Mediterranean place. Any suggestions?

Looking forward to getting back to frequenting my go to Atl spots and trying some new ones. Atl food scene def one of my favorites.

Krog is definitely overpriced, but people keep showing up and crowding the **** out of it so what do I know.

If you just want to get a kick ass gyro, Nick's Food to Go is your spot. It's just a random brick building near Oakland cemetery with no indoor seating, but awesome food.

Thanks, think I may have tried Nick's at someone's house once when they picked it up and remember liking it, so I'll definitely have to check it out for myself soon.

Where's a good place to kick back on the weekend, during the day, maybe with a kindle/book and a cocktail, to hopefully see some attractive women? I'm thinking maybe somewhere along the beltline is best option? I sometimes like bumming around the High as well

Food is meh, but drinks are pretty good and the patio is great and right on the Eastside Trail.

The Nashville Hot Chicken Biscuits they serve at brunch are some of the best chicken biscuits I have ever had.

At first I was like "Whoa, FFK is back!" but then I was like "Nah, someone just bumped a 10 year old thread" then I was like "Whoa, FFK is back!"

Yeah, it's crazy that Angus died. I used to work with one of his business partner's girlfriend and got to meet him and eat some of his off-menu food a couple times. He was just ridiculously talented.

On a happier note, tried out Nexto, a new ramen place right by Two Urban Licks, tonight. Really, really good, on par or maybe better than Makan.
