also, parquet courts 'light up gold' is a lot of fun, lyrics are awesome and often hilarious.

Early song of the year contender for me

Wow that's an excellent song.

Wish I could make it to their show in Allston tonight. I bet they translate very well live.

Buke and Gase song tilts me. And I'm usually fairly open to that sort of song.

Yeah, I saw them last year at the middle east downstairs opening for Deerhoof.
The room kinda sucked but they were still good and made a lot of noise for two people.

Bummed I couldn't go tonight.

so, i mean, what's the joke? that people are just giving up on trying to make good or catchy rap and just making some really ignorant **** and pretending it's self parody? i feel like to get credit for any kind of meta-rap commentary you have to be able to do something other than suck out loud forever.

I saw Buke & Gass at a small bar a few years back. The woman in the group had horrible body odor, but they were otherwise very cool.

My post was poorly worded and I should have just refrained from making it. If you don't like his music or find him funny that's obviously fine. I don't think there is a joke in the sense you are looking for (if there is one it is that he is highlighting the ridiculous aspects of rap music, but he is also reveling in them so whatever) - he's just a funny, ridiculous dude, and especially effective at trolling hip-hop purists. But while he does have a rough flow at times, he is making catchy rap songs. And when he's on he comes with some great absurdist lyrics. I also don't have a problem with people making really ignorant ****; I think really ignorant **** can be both good and catchy.

he's signed by diplo/mad decent for a reason.
he's on the cover of fashion magazines (i mean fashion, not the edf fashion thread) for a reason.
he's played by james franco in the new harmony korine movie (movie of the year for sure, btw) for a reason.

It was online, but their site is getting hammered and can't take the traffic, lolz. I don't know if anyone even got it.

I actually got to the home page once but it crashed when I clicked the "buy the album" thing.

Anyways, prob gonna spend a lot of my Saturday night refreshing it like a dork...

Like seriously, I'm pretty sure new Daft Punk might blow. But so, so, so happy with this. Enjoying it so much.

So I guess this is the time of year we all pretend MBV is the greatest thing ever.
02-03-2013 , 05:37 AM
well it'll be more warranted than 5 months from now when everyone is pretending arcade fire is the greatest thing ever.
02-03-2013 , 05:42 AM
that was a douchey post.

but this has way way surpassed my expectations.

Yeah, you're right. Let's get back to discussing Iceage and Local Natives.

Didn't mean it as a jab at anyone or the topic of discussion, I'm just legitimately confused whenever Loveless is brought up as one of the GOAT albums and I consider it a top 5 overrated album of all time. I guess we all have a few of those bands/albums. Hopefully MBV will be the album that brings me to appreciate MVB like Let England Shake made me appreciate PJ. From what I've heard so far I consider it unlikely though.

In 5 months I will be the one pretending Arcade Fire is the greatest band ever, mark your calendars.
02-03-2013 , 08:47 AM
Yeah, I'm just being overly defensive and snarky, because lot of what I'm feeling right now is this MBV album making all the current indie bands feel completely irrelevant to me (especially the shoegaze retreads that never were able to touch Loveless and will also never be able to touch this).

I guess the band is a specific sound/style that may not appeal to everyone though, which is fair. Influence and such is undeniable.

i'm tired as all get out but i think i'm just gonna stay up and listen to this all day as i drift in and out of delirium.

it's just absolutely staggering. mbv isn't for everyone but i can't imagine this not flooring anyone who has a shred of love for loveless in their heart.
