My computer crashed and now I have lost all 50 GB's of music that was in my iTunes.

The plan now is to slowly build my collection back up but make it a slow, steady process full of only good music.

What are some of your "must have" CD's/Artists/Bands for your musical collection?

My range of music is everywhere but some artists I will be starting with are :

Ed Sheeran
A$AP mob (Rocky, Ferg, etc.)
Beyonce
Bruno Mars
Odd Future
Kendrick
Tori Kelly - probably my favorite female vocalist. check her out
Sade

12-30-2013 , 08:45 PM
but just for fun

kanye
grilly bear
radiohead
daft punk
muse's earlier stuff
air
lcd soundsystem

That sounds both boring and impossible, just get Spotify.

Noteworthy non-spotify albums this year were mbv, Bill Callahan,Sky Ferreira and Beyonce?

Talking about spotify if you want to check your 2013 listening stats, check

I enjoy having my own music collection but have heard good things about Spotify.

You can't download music on there can you?

You can't download mp3 files, but if you're a premium member you can download songs so that they're available even if you're offline (works both for your phone and computer). If you download mp3's from other sources it's easy to import them to Spotify.

I get that having a collection can be nice, but I gave up on that idea a long time ago because ultimately I just found it annoying with computer crashes, having to transfer mp3's to your phone etc. When I get a bigger place I might start a vinyl collection only with albums I really like.

Now I only download stuff I can't find on Spotify.

There have been a lot. Some of it has become available later and some of it is available in US but not Sweden (don't know about UK). I've downloaded ~40 albums through the year, I think you might like some of these:

Bonnie 'Prince' Billy - S/T
Froth - Patterns
Hayden - Us alone
Lucius - Wildewoman
Typhoon - White lighter
White Denim - Corsicana lemonade

A lot of the albums that have been missing are electronic though. Blondes, Segue, Nils Frahm, Ensemble Economique, Motion Sickness of Time Travel and Laurel Halo are all still missing, not sure about Haxan Cloak and Forest Swords.

The Typhoon album is confirmed one of the greatest things of the year. Probably the best indie album.

Deafheaven's Sunbather just takes me to another dimension

I think I'm going to just chalk it up to being weird, because I found a lot of the "big" albums this year to be fairly mediocre. I don't even know about putting a top 10 list up. I'd be far more challenged by putting up a top 10 songs list, man there were some great songs among a pretty big group of mediocre albums. Would jump around a lot from Junip to Darkside to Dearhunter.

Wanted to thank you guys for all the cool music I found in here last year, and when I figure out how to post it in here again, I will. Not sure if you youtube changed something, but I can't seem to do it the usual way.

video's a bit "HEY I'M HERE WHAT'S GOING ON" but the song is nice and I think we're going to be hearing a lot from the ATL in 2014...

Many thanks for the Typhoon rec. Well worth a buy (obviously). Available for $11 at Amazon, $5 for the mp3 only version for U.S based people. It is extremely good IMO, the unpredictability is really cozy and it blends well with a good bunch of catchy strings played at once.

Ghana try to see Typhoon at 9:30 Club on March 19. Also seeing Okkervil River (whose latest album has probably already been discussed ITT but is really really good) in Baltimore on the 27th. Typhoon is actually opening for Okkervil in Philly on the 28th but I can't make that show unfortunately.

had to go back and take my lumps for this - I was asking this rhetorically at the time, but man do I like this album now. Took a few listens to get there. Only song I dislike is #6

I've become a Yeezus Freak, i apologize for this earlier ignorance

I don't think it has, but I've heard it's supposed to be somewhat of a return to form. I like their earlier albums but I haven't cared much for their last couple releases. Might check it out at some point.
