it isn't.
The thing is they just so damn awkward trying to sound cool. "Hey look, we're just like the Talking Heads and Bowie! We're hip and cool and fun and you can dance to us!"

They're still a bunch of Canadian nerds with accordions and violins, FFS. When they try to dance I worry that they'll fall over. It's just wrong.

nathan fake/modselektor/trentmoller are my favorites in the genre.

Chris Martin played a secret set at Hotel Cafe in Hollywood last night. Maybe 150 people there, I was lucky enough to be one of 'em. Pretty magnetic experience, regardless of your thoughts on the current state of Coldplay. And of course, if you didn't love Parachutes back in '01, then man, I feel bad for ya. Covered "Simple Twist of Fate" and "Earth Angel" along with generally taking requests.

Sweet gig. There's actually a documentary about the hotel cafe and a tour like 5 or 10 years ago. Seems a pretty cool place if one is into singer/songwriters.

IMO, the best thing going that I know of the last couple of years is Warpaint. They just clearly love music and produce some great harmonic/hypnotic tunes. The English, who produce better bands than the US historically and have a much more active and influential music press, love Warpaint, but they don't seem to garner a whole lot of interest in the US outside varios 'hipster' markets. They seem to have a small but ardent following from europe to south america to asia and aus.

So, how about MMLP2?

I'm not a huge fan of Eminem by any means, in fact I only got it because I'm going to an Eminem/Kendrick/JCole show. It's ok though, not ground breaking or anything but not terrible.

Listened to the new Arcade Fire once so far, not feeling it that much but obviously have to give it a few more listens.

I think not terrible is giving MMLP2 too much credit.

MMLP2--Em's best album in a long time. Rap God and A**hole are my two favorites so far.

Disclosure/Nile Rodgers joint should be on Random Access Memories. It's that bad.

These 2 have an album coming out together next week.

If you're unfamiliar with Flume, he's basically Australia's answer to James Blake. Def get his (self titled) album if you haven't heard it.

Flume - Holdin On

Flume - Sleepless

Got my Arcade Fire tickets this morning (for March), turns out the dress code thing is causing a pretty big stir. I plan on a costume, don't want to go formal and be in GA:

Listening to Neon Bible start to finish again this morning, had been a little while. Confirms what I wasn't really able to articulate before about Reflektor, and probably still can't. What an album though, godamn. I won't let as much time pass before hitting play on it.

I like the dress code thing and will prob get tickets and go. I saw AF play a 600 person show the night before they won their grammy. Kick ass, obv. Waited in line 6 hrs and got the last 2 tickets.

Wow that's dedication. There's probably no living act I'd wait 6 hours for like that. Numerous dead ones though
