Savages album was pretty good, maybe check out the 1975 album if your into a more pop based rock. Austra also produced a solid album in Olympia and they kind of sound like a cross between Florence and the machine and CHVRCHES.

Mikal Cronin, Fuzz, King Khan and The Shrines, Thee Oh Sees, The Drones, Parquet Court and Savages is where it's at if you're looking for rock.

Thanks guys, I'll check those out.

Lots of good advice itt.. I'm curious, how do you guys keep up with stuff? Blogs, magazines, word of mouth? My girlfriend works a&r for a major so I end up going to a bajillion shows but before that I had a tough time being on the ball.

I'm going to The Naked and Famous tonight (plug for In Rolling Waves!), super psyched. And so I add something, check out Grizfolk. They were just signed, I like 'em a lot.

As far as my recs go, Savages and Parquet Court are post-punk. Thee Oh Sees and King Khan and The Shrines are garage. The Drones are more on the punk side and I'd add FIDLAR which is my favorite punk release this year.

Mikal Cronin's album is a great garage/power pop fusion that I'd imagine most everyone would really like, but I haven't seen much love for it here. It's probably in my 2013 top 3 all categories. Probably a good album to start with.

I tried to start building a library of great sources here but no one seemed interested so I gave up. But yeah, I stay updated on blogs, sites and a couple niched forums.

Yeah, it's hard to keep up with a lot of music, but worth it imo. Does anyone really like YesYou or Hunter Hunted EP's? Can't wait for either of these acts to produce more content.

If you like Light Up Gold, Parquet Courts have released a new EP and it's really good.

And I don't think this live perfomance has been posted, excellent.

I'd add Iceage's "You're Nothing" to this list as well, best punk album I've heard in a long time.

Probably need to give that Iceage album a couple more spins, didn't do it for me on first listen.

That iceage album really does have a lot of great tracks. I think what's holding me back from loving it is the vocalist, which is a bit weird because I'm rarely turned off by vocals (but sometimes turned on). Maybe he'll grow on me.

This might not be true anymore but http://cokemachineglow.com/ used to be decent. A little anti-pitchfork and their taste is a little less accessible.

Google music recently (like yesterday maybe?) came out with "suggested new releases" in the playlists section. I will be relying on this heavily as its suggestions are spot on. Yet another reason Google Music is amazing

Great recommendations everyone.

I've really enjoyed Mikal Cronin, The Drones, Savages, FIDLAR and Portugal. The man. Still have a few more you mentioned to work through. Nick, I agree that FIDLAR is one of the best... also pretty funny in a few places!
